Chapter 291

Tessa’s POV

My arm was broken, but now it’s not. I could actually move it. I thought for sure I was going to die. Everything inside of my body was crushed to pieces when that car crashed to the ground. I shouldn’t be alive at all, but for some reason, I was able to sit up and move.

Joseph kept his arms around me, and I could hear some crying and screaming in the background from those who had witnessed everything. My heart was hammering in my chest as my body trembled against Joseph’s. I could tell from how heavily he was breathing that he was wound up as well; he was holding me tightly so I also knew he was unwilling to let me go.

“I can cast a spell to make everyone forget and then get this all cleaned up,” Esme assured us. “Get her home. I’m calling the witch doctor right now and he will meet you there.”

“Are you sure he will have time to meet us today?” Joseph asked.

Esme grinned and shrugged.

“He will do anything for me,” she said confidently.

I looked up at Joseph and gave her a knowing look. Something was telling me there was more to the story. I made a mental note to ask her about it later, but for right now, I really just wanted to go home.

“Is Lucias really dead?” I asked, peeking up at Joseph.

Joseph looked at Esme for confirmation and she nodded her head slowly.

“Yes,” she confirmed. “He’s gone.”

I thought I would feel relief upon hearing that, but I didn’t. instead, I felt this heaviness in my chest and my main thought was, “What about the rest of the coven?”

I didn’t ask out loud though. I just rested my head against Joseph’s chest as he lifted me into his arms and walked me over to the car that he left a couple of miles away. We were in a small town just outside of the city and everything was damaged from the road rage and from the tornado. I hoped that Esme would be able to fix everything.

I hated leaving things the way they were.

By the time we reached the house, I was overly exhausted. Joseph lifted me into his arms, too afraid to let me walk on my own, and then brought me into the house. He laid me down on the couch and kissed the top of my head gently as he went to get me a change of clothes and some tea.

Once he returned with my clothes, I stripped out of the ones I was wearing and into the comfortable set he laid out for me. He knew I needed comfy clothes right now.

I put my hair into a ponytail as well, wincing from the slight pain and tension in my arms. They were still in the process of healing, which meant they were still a bit sore. I hated feeling this week, but it was nothing compared to how I felt while in that car and I could feel my bones breaking with each jerk of the vehicle. Then the excruciating pain I felt when the car lifted in the air and then crashed back to the ground before everything went black.

I shuddered at the memory.

“Are you okay?” Joseph asked as he walked back into the living room with a mug of tea.

I smiled at him as he handed me the mug. I took a big sniff of the hot tea, my smile widening. He put a splash of milk and a little sugar inside the tea, just how I liked it.

“Never better,” I said as he sat beside me. Then, something occurred to me and I frowned as I looked at him. “How did you know I was in trouble?”

He opened his mouth to speak, but then he immediately closed it again. He looked as if he was trying hard to figure out how to actually tell me. I reached over toward him and put my hand on his face.

“Just tell me,” I said calmly.

He took a deep breath, held it, and then released it after a couple of seconds.

“Ruby,” he said, meeting my eyes.

My eyes grew large.

“What?”

He nodded.

“She had a vision that Lucias took you and I called Esmeralda right away,” he explained.

I stared at him in disbelief.

“She… had a vision?” I asked, my voice coming out breathy.

“Tessa… Ruby is a prophet,” he told me. “I found out earlier after she had a vision about a few new students attacking the school. Nobody believed her. They thought it was just a dream so they dismissed her concerns.”

He shook his head at the memory and my chest tightened even more.

“And did they?” I asked, keeping my eyes on him. “Attack the school?”

He looked so solemn in this moment and he didn’t have to speak for me to know the answer.

“Yes,” he answered. “They attacked the school and a couple of people, including one of the Elders, died.”

I gasped and covered my mouth with my hands as tears sprang to my eyes.

“Are you saying Ruby is a real prophet? She had a vision that students attacked the school and nobody listened to her?” I asked, my voice coming out squeaky now and I hated how I sounded.

“Yes,” he answered. “If she had told me directly about the vision, I would have taken precautions. I know what it’s like to have abilities for the first time and nobody believes you. I’ve also watched it happen before. I wouldn’t have taken that chance but apparently, they all felt the need to ignore her.”

I could tell Joseph was troubled by this but he quickly shook the thought from his mind as he took another deep breath and looked into my eyes.

“While I was talking to Ruby about it, she grew exhausted again, which was what happened when she had her first vision. I laid her down and waited with her. When she woke, she told me she had another vision about you. Lucias was here and he took you in a car and drove off… she didn’t see anything beyond that but she was adamant that you were in trouble.”

I wrapped my arms around my body as more tears fell from my eyes.

“Is that why Esme showed up here?” I asked.

He looked confused by my question and I supposed it was my turn to come clean about something that happened earlier.

“I was home earlier and Esme showed up. I tried to brush her off and go back to work. Thankfully, she followed. She texted me and told me some of the stuff that you told me, but a part of me still didn’t believe it.”

Joseph looked at me confused for a moment longer.

“Why did you try to blow her off?”

My cheeks were blazing with heat as I attempted to avoid his eyes.

“Tess?” He continued to hound.

Just as I was about to answer him, there was a knock on the door. Joseph sighed, running his fingers through his hair as he stood. He went over to the door and pulled it open. I could hear him speaking to someone but the voices were too distorted for me to make out any of the words.

Within seconds, Joseph was walking back into the room with a very handsome man walking in after him. He couldn’t have been much older than Joseph and he wore a long white trench coat. He carried a large briefcase and a duffle bag.

Was he the witch doctor? He was way too young to be a witch doctor. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn’t this handsome hunk.

I wasn’t in the least bit interested because I had Joseph, and Joseph was way better-looking than this guy. But I also wasn’t blind to the attractiveness of other men.

“Tessa, this is Doctor Emmet Roofus, the witch doctor that Esme had told us about,” Joseph said, motioning for the doctor.

He gave me a polite smile and a nod of the head.

“Hello, Dr. Roofus,” I said politely. “Thank you for coming at such short notice.”

“No need for formalities. You can call me Emmet,” he said as he walked closer to me, setting his bag and briefcase on the coffee table.

“Well, thank you, Emmet,” I said. “And you can call me Tessa.”

He chuckled and nodded.

“So, Esmeralda had already told me some of the stuff that happened. She mentioned the fact that you broke almost every bone in your body and now they are healed miraculously. You don’t mind if I take a look, do you?”

“Go for it,” I told him, not caring if he touched me or not.

After Emmet examined my bones, he made some notes in the notebook he pulled out of his briefcase.

“Is it true that you are something called the heavenly heart?” Emmet shocked me by asking.

I opened my mouth to speak, shocked that he knew this information but Joseph spoke first.

“How do you know about the Heavenly Heart?”

Emmet looked at Joseph, his brows raised.

“I’m afraid I don’t. Esme mentioned it and I was confused. There was a prophecy long ago though,” he explained. “However, the prophecy Itself doesn’t mention a Heavenly Heart; it mentions the Heavenly Light. But when Esme told me that you were the Heavenly Heart, I knew it must be related in some way.”

“The heavenly light?” I asked.

“In a thousand years there will be a war between good and evil; heaven and hell, dark and light,” Emmet explained. “It will destroy everything we know and love. Only the Heavenly Light will be enough to put an end to the war and restore humanity. It was said that the moon goddess will put this light in a human and once the child is born, we will know right away based on the child’s aura and appearance.”

“Appearance?” Joseph asked.

Emmet nodded.

“The child will have a hazy yellow and purple aura along with violet eyes,” he continued to explain.

“But this child is meant to stop a war that’s happening in a thousand years?” I asked, confused.

“The prophecy is about 2000 years old, and it was said in 2000 years there will be a war. I’m assuming this child will have eternal life.”

“What does this have to do with Tessa as the Heavenly Heart?” Joseph asked, sitting beside me on the couch.

Emmet went quiet for a moment as he examined my face.

“Honestly, I’m not sure. But I’d like to find out.”
