Chapter 177

Carol’s POV

I was having a baby!

A freaking baby!

I wasn’t sick, I was pregnant.

Allen was holding my hands and grinning from ear to ear. All senses came back to me at the same time, and I quickly pulled my hands out of his. I needed to contact Aiden and tell him the good news. I wanted to tell him in person though. I wondered how he was going to react once I told him the news.

“Congratulations Luna,” the doctor said, turning off the machine. “It’s still too early to see the gender. But I would say you’re about 3 weeks pregnant. Because this baby would be part werewolf though, it’ll be a difficult and rapid pregnancy. Most women give birth between 6 to 7 months.”

My mouth nearly hit the ground.

“6 to 7 months?” I asked, my heart beating rapidly against my chest.

He nodded.

“It won’t be an easy pregnancy. From what I understand, you aren’t exactly a human. But you also aren’t a werewolf either. There could be complications. I’m not going to label this a high-risk pregnancy just yet. But I’d like for you to see me regularly.”

I nodded.

I then looked at Allen.

“Can you take me to the packhouse? I need to see Aiden and tell him that I’m pregnant,” I said to him.

He looked hesitant for a moment, but then he nodded. I furrowed my brows at his hesitation.

“Is there a problem?” I asked him.

“No, of course not, Luna,” he said, a plastered smile on his lips.

I decided not to look too into it right now. My main priority was getting to Aiden.

The doctor helped adjust my shirt and get me out of bed. After I thanked him, I went with Allen out of the hospital and towards his waiting car.

“Thank you for taking me to the hospital,” I told him once we were on the road. “I really appreciate it.”

“Of course,” he said, his eyes fixed on the road ahead of us. “I wouldn’t just let you pass out and do nothing about it.”

“I know things have been weird between us since the other night, so I wasn’t really sure,” I admitted.

He clenched the steering wheel tightly and I noticed his knuckles growing white. I frowned at him, but I said nothing. I waited with bated breath for him to say something.

“You must be very excited for the news,” he finally said after a long silence. “Have you always wanted to be a mother?”

“Yes,” I answered without hesitation. “I always saw myself as the maternal type. But I never really talked to Aiden about it. I’m a little nervous about how he would react.”

“I’m sure he’ll be thrilled,” he said; his voice was strained, but when I looked at him, he seemed to be at peace, so I dropped the conversation.

I found myself yawning as exhaustion consumed me. I was tired after the day I had.

“You can take a nap. I’ll wake you when we are there,” Allen assured me.

“Are you sure?” I asked. “I feel bad just falling asleep in the car with you.”

“I mean, you were passed out on the way to the hospital. At least now I know you’re just sleeping and you’re okay,” he teased.

I smiled and then nodded in response.

“Point taken,” I said.

I closed my eyes and rested my head on the window. We weren’t far from the packhouse, but it was enough time to take a little cat nap.

I’m not sure how long I had been sleeping, but the road grew bumpy, and I hit my head on the door, which immediately woke me up. I hadn’t anticipated that I would be in such a deep sleep in such a short time.

I blinked, trying to get a grasp of my bearings.

How long had I been asleep?

When I looked out the window, panic set in. We were on an unfamiliar dirt road; this was not the city and this certainly not the way to the packhouse.

I looked over at Allen who was still focused on the road.

“Allen?” I asked him, drawing his attention to me. “Where are we going?”

“Oh, you’re awake,” he said, a grin spreading across his lips. “I thought you’d be sleeping longer than that.”

“Answer my question,” I demanded, my voice rising as my anxiety grew.

He was quiet, which royally pissed me off. But before I could say anything to him, he spoke.

“You know, we’d be so good together, Carol. I could help you raise your baby, and we could be a family.”

My heart fell deep into my stomach.

“What are you talking about Allen? I’m married and mated to Aiden. This is his baby. He’s my family,” I told him, proud that my voice came out stronger than I felt. “Take me home, Allen. Take me to my husband this instant!”

“I’m afraid I can’t do that, Carol,” he said, his hands clutching the wheel even tighter. “You see, I’ve been told I needed to get rid of your body. I was told to not allow you to return to the pack. But I can’t do that either. I can’t kill you because I’m in love with you.”

“What?” I gasped. “Allen, who asked you to kill me??”

“I can’t tell you,” he said, shaking his head. “That I won’t do. But I can promise that I won’t kill you. You are my life, Carol. I fell in love with you and now we can be a family. We can run away together, and they will never know that I didn’t do what I was supposed to do.”

I grabbed the door handle and attempted to open the door; I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. Maybe jump out of the moving car? But my attempt was futile because the door was locked.

“Allen, let me out!” I pleaded, but this time, my voice cracked. “Please…”

“I can’t do that, Carol. If I did, you’ll be killed. I can’t let you go. I need you. I love you. Can’t you see that? The kiss wasn’t an accident. It was how I felt, and I don’t regret a thing about it!”

“Allen, you don’t know what you are saying!” I yelled. “Let me out of this car right now!!”

“Sorry, Carol,” he said, as he reached into the glove compartment and pulled something out. Everything happened so quickly, that I couldn’t grasp what he was doing until it was too late. I felt the sharp sting in my neck, and I inhaled deeply when I realized he stuck a syringe into the nape of my neck.

What the hell did he give me??

Was it safe for my baby??

“Don’t worry, your baby will be fine,” he said, as if reading my mind. “We’ll talk more when we get there.”

Get where?

I wanted to ask, but my mouth refused to work. Specks of darkness clouded my vision and then everything went dark.

…..

Aiden’s POV

I looked at the clock; Carol should have been here by now. She told me she was going to stop by the packhouse after work. I called her cellphone a couple of times, but she didn’t answer. Frowning, I decided to call Coach Sanchez instead.

“Alpha,” he greeted. “What can I do for you?”

“Is Carol still at work?” I asked.

There was silence on the other end which made me nervous.

“Coach?” I urged impatiently.

“I assumed you knew; she passed out this afternoon in her office. Allen took her to the hospital.”

My heart dropped; she was brought to the hospital, and I wasn’t informed. What the actual hell was going on??

“He didn’t tell you?” Coach then asked, hesitantly.

“No,” I said bitterly. “He didn’t tell me. I’ll give him a call.”

I hung up without a word and called Allen; it went straight to voicemail. Just as I was about to call the hospital the door of my office flew open, and Oliver ran inside. He was breathless so I knew he was running for a while, Fiona was right behind him, tears in her eyes.

“It has to be a misunderstanding,” Fiona pleaded to him. “There’s no way she would do this.”

“I don’t care; he needs to know, babe,” Olver told her firmly.

I stood up immediately.

“What do I need to know?” I asked.

He brought his phone over to me and showed me the screen.

“Today’s headline; the news is all over the media,” he explained.

When I read the headline, I was confused.

“Luna of the Capitol pregnant with a hockey player’s baby?” I asked, looking at Oliver.

That was weird that they would label me as a hockey player even though I no longer worked for the team. But more importantly, why would they say Carol was pregnant when she hasn’t said anything to me about it?

“Keep reading,” Oliver said, pointing at his phone still in my hands.

“It has to be a misunderstanding,” Fiona said again, lowering her gaze.

I looked back at the phone and continued to read the article until I saw the picture right in the middle of it.

It was a picture of Carol at the hospital, looking at the ultrasound with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. But that wasn’t the part that infuriated me. Right beside her, holding her hand, with a grin across his face as if he was the father… was Allen.

What the actual fuck?!
