Chapter 168

Carol’s POV

Miranda’s scrutiny changed from me to him. Her anger was evident in her eyes as she glared at him.

“What the hell are you talking about, Benjamine?” She growled.

Ben’s eyes never left mine and I kept him under my hold so we could squeeze all the information out of him.

“You promised this rogue your children?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

“I made a bet and I lost… three times. Each time, I bet one of my kids. I stopped after the third one. He doesn’t know I have kids already, so I made them for future kids. I didn’t think I was going to have any more kids. I thought they would be safe,” he explained; his voice monotone because he wasn’t speaking out of his own free will.

Miranda gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.

“But my girlfriend got pregnant, and he found out about it. He has her… he wants our baby, and I can’t let that happen,” he said quickly.

My heart shattered for Cassidy and her children. He was selling his children to this rogue because he wanted to protect his girlfriend, the mistress he’s clearly been cheating on Cassidy with, and their new baby.

“How could you do that to your family?” I asked in a whisper; I felt disgusted being in this man’s presence.

“Have you seen her living situation? They would be better off with the rogues. I’ve been living in rogue territory for weeks and it’s not that bad. They would be treated nicely. Some of the rogues can’t have children so he gives them kids to take care of. They would have good lives. Better lives. They won’t be any danger,” he went on to say.

I wanted to punch this man in the face. I was disgusted by what he was saying, and I wanted nothing more to do with him.

“I can’t believe you, Ben,” Miranda said, her voice breaking at the end as the emotions of the situation got too much for her to handle as well.

She had both kids wrapped in her arms and her lips were pressed in a thin line.

“He’s never been nice to mommy,” the boy whispered. “I don’t trust him.”

“You won’t have to go to him again,” Miranda assured him.

I blinked, breaking the contact with Ben and the green glow surrounding him went away. Anger replaced his indifferent face, and he smashed against the shield again, fury clear in his eyes. I looked at Miranda for some assistance.

“Aiden is on his way with some of the Gammas. They will take care of it. We should get the kids out of here,” she said, holding the children even tighter.

“You go ahead. Go to the hospital and check on Cassidy. I’m going to wait for Aiden and make sure he doesn’t get away.”

She looked uncertain but then she nodded and ushered the kids away from the hospital.

“You are going to be sorry!” Ben growled. “They are my kids, and I can do whatever I want with them!!!”

“That is where you are wrong,” I roared, glaring at him. “This is my pack. I am the Luna. Which means the women and children in this pack are mine! I am responsible for them. How dare you walk in here and think you can take what is mine. I will not allow you to hurt a single hair on any of their heads ever again.”

I was so wrapped up in what I was saying, I didn’t realize Aiden walked into the room until his arms were draped around me. I gasped and turned to face him; I could see the anger in his eyes as he glared at Ben.

“Benjamine, I wish I could say it was nice to see you again, but I’d be lying. You were better off remaining a rogue and not bothering to return to this pack. But now that you are here and clearly with ill attempt, you will be held in our jail until we figure out what to do with you.”

“You can’t do that!” Ben growled. “My girlfriend and our unborn baby are still out there!! You need to help her!!”

“That isn’t our problem. You probably shouldn’t have left her,” Aiden said, shaking his head at him. His arm still remained around me, and he was crushing me into his body, holding me like he was worried I might slip away at any moment.

Gamma warriors were already walking into the room to gather him. They stopped, with confused looks, when they came across the shield.

I held my hand up and I was surprised when the shield came down for me right away. The gammas looked at one another in wonder for a moment but got their heads out of their asses when Ben tried to run after he noticed the shield was gone.

They caught him with ease though and tackled him to the ground. It didn’t take long to get silver cuffs around his wrists. He swore and cursed me as they dragged him out of the school.

The receptionist who I just realized was still there, was hiding behind her desk and sobbing.

I pulled away from Aiden to go to her.

“Hey,” I said, trying to give her a reassuring smile. Her entire body was trembling, and I could see how terrified she was. I looked into her eyes and watched as a blue aura wrapped around her. Her eyes flickered to me. “You are okay. Please calm down. This wasn’t your fault. You are safe now. He will never hurt you again,” I told her softly.

Her breathing grew less shaky, and she soon looked calm again. She nodded her head once and managed to get back to work.

Aiden grabbed me and pulled me back into his arms.

“You were incredible,” he whispered against me.

“I just couldn’t let those kids go with him. I saw a vision earlier when I was with Cassidy and I knew he was going to do something awful,” I admitted. “I couldn’t let it happen.”

“That’s why you are the best fit to be my Luna,” Aiden murmured. He bent down and his lips brushed across mine. “I love you so much and I’m so happy you are by my side.”

“I’ll always be by your side,” I assured him.

He smiled into my kiss.

“He’s never going to bother anyone again.”

“Can we get to the hospital?” I asked, checking the time. “I have to get to work soon, but I’d like to see Cassidy beforehand.”

“Yeah, I’ll drive you,” he said.

He guided me out of the school and together, we went to the hospital. Miranda was in the waiting room with the kids when we arrived.

“She’s in surgery,” Miranda said. “We don’t know if they can save the babies yet.”

“Will you let me know if she makes it out? I need to get to work soon at the hockey rink. Will the kids be okay?”

She nodded.

“I’ll take care of them,” she assured me.

I nodded and started to turn away and leave but she grabbed my arm to stop me.

“Carol,” she said quickly. I slowly turned to face her, fearing what she might say. “How did you know? How did you know what he would do?”

Miranda had no idea about my powers; not many did. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“I have certain abilities,” I admitted. “I don’t think we should discuss this here though.”

She looked uncertain for a moment, but then she nodded.

“I was wrong about you,” she said softly, glancing over her shoulder at the kids before she looked back at me, his eyes wet with tears. She looked up at her son and straightened, getting ready for whatever she might say. “You have a good and strong Luna by your side. I’m so sorry I doubted you.”

I think Aiden and I were equally shocked to hear this. I wasn’t sure what to say, but Aiden smiled and wrapped his arms around her.

“Thanks, Mom,” he murmured.

She nodded and smiled at me; for once, her smile wasn’t forced and my heart swelled with pride.

We went to the hockey rink where I was given an office, and they explained to me what I was going to be doing. It wasn’t much different than my old job with the Statford Freeze, which I was relieved for. It felt nice being back at the rink and doing what I enjoyed the most. I finally felt at ease, like I was finding my place in this pack. I finally felt as if I was being accepted.

I got to know some of the players, and they all seem pretty friendly. There was one new guy, Allen, who just joined the team a few weeks prior and I bonded with him because I was also known to everybody. We had that in common and immediately became friends.

Aiden stopped by the rink and did some practicing with the team, and it made me smile seeing him back on the rink. It felt like old times and for a moment, it seemed like nothing had changed.

Things started to look up until that ping of nausea hit my stomach and I lost my lunch in a waist bucket at my desk, which was the exact moment Allen decided to walk into my office.
