Chapter 101

Carol’s POV

Aiden pulled out his phone immediately after I told him it was Morgan who had me kidnapped. I wasn’t sure what he was doing or who he was calling, but my heart thudded against my chest wildly with fear as he pressed the phone to his cheek.

“Oliver,” he greeted into the phone. “I need you to look for Morgan Leveau…” he paused, and I waited with bated breath. “Yeah, she was the one who kidnapped Carol…” Another pause. “I’m not sure, but I’m going to find out.”

He hung up without another word. He narrowed his eyes at me; he didn’t look angry with me but with this situation. I could see the worry outlining his eyes and it made the knot in my stomach tighten.

“What exactly did she do to you?” He asked me with so much seriousness in his tone, I flinched.

I shook my head.

“Nothing honestly. It wasn’t her that did anything. Her goons were the ones who manhandled me and drugged me,” I told him, wincing at the pained expression that crossed his features. “Morgan only told me about my heritage and why she’s after me. She was too busy setting up the transfer spell so she could take my powers. Then, she was planning on killing me.”

Aiden looked so defeated and his shoulders slumped slightly.

“I hate that I wasn’t there to protect you…” he whispered, lowering his gaze.

I put my hands on both sides of his face and forced him to look at me.

“Look at me, Aiden. I’m okay,” I assured him. “This isn’t your fault. I shouldn’t have gone off by myself like that after knowing there were people after me. It was foolish on my part. This isn’t on you.”

“I’m your mate, Carol. My main job and priority are to keep you safe,” he told me, kissing the palm of my hand gently, sending tingles throughout my entire body. “I let you down…”

“You could never let me down,” I whispered, hoping to make him see reason. “I love you, Aiden. None of this is your fault.”

He met my eyes, and I could practically see his internal battle. His wolf was not happy. I forced him to come closer to me so I could kiss him. I gently brushed my lips against his and as soon as we made that first contact, his body immediately relaxed, and he deepened the kiss. He swiped his tongue across my bottom lip, asking for access which I happily gave him.

I parted my lips, letting his tongue slip between them and into my mouth. He swirled circles in my mouth, swiping his tongue every which way and sending an electric current through my body, causing the hairs on my arms and neck to stand tall as my mate devoured my mouth.

At this moment, nothing else mattered besides Aiden and me. My heart was swollen so much I thought for sure it was going to explode right out of my chest. He ran his hands behind my body, pulling me even closer to him. I think he forgot that I was hooked up to a couple of machines and was lying in a hospital bed, but I didn’t care. I wanted to be closer to him; I wanted all of him.

I moaned into his mouth as I sucked on his wet tongue. He nibbled on my bottom lip playfully, drawing it into his mouth and sucking on it like it was the sweetest thing he had ever tasted.

We didn’t stop until I heard a throat clearing at the doorway and we both jumped apart like we were a couple of teens getting caught doing the nasty. Breathless and red-faced, we stared at the doctor who looked almost embarrassed to have walked in on us.

“Sorry for the interruption,” he said, clearing his throat again. “I just wanted to check on Carol’s vitals and see how her recovery is doing.”

I looked up at Aiden who was breathless from that incredible kiss, and I smiled at his swollen and very kissable lips. This would have to continue later because I wasn’t sure how much more of this, I was going to be able to take. I needed to have him, or my lady bits were going to explode from the tension building within them.

Telling from the obvious erection he was carrying; I would say Aiden felt the same exact way.

Aiden stepped aside for the doctor to get closer.

“I’m guessing you are feeling better?” The doctor asked with a smile on his lips.

I nodded, trying to keep the blush from creeping up my cheeks, but it was too late. I felt the heat rushing to my face and I bit my lower lip from the memory of Aiden’s lips on mine.

“Yes,” I answered, glad that my voice came out stronger than I felt.

The doctor checked over my vitals before saying, “I’m going to keep you here for another night just for observations. But you should be good to leave tomorrow morning.”

The thought of staying here for another night didn’t sit right with me; I just wanted to go home and sleep in a comfortable bed. But I knew there was no use in arguing so I sighed and thanked him.

I thought Aiden would have left at some point, but he didn’t. He stayed with me for the entire night; except for when he went to grab us food later in the evening. The nurses offered to get him a cot for the room so he could sleep, be he refused. Instead, he crawled into bed with me and held me the entire night.

The next morning, the doctor discharged me, and Aiden took me home, insisting on carrying me inside. I told him it wasn’t necessary, but he was being overprotective.

By the time the championship rematch came around, a few days later, I was feeling way better and had got most of my strength back. Aiden and I hadn’t really spoken about my ancestry since the hospital, and he also hadn’t mentioned anything about Morgan or what he was planning on doing about her. I knew that Olver was aware of Morgan’s part in my kidnapping, and he was looking into it, but I haven’t been updated since then I wondered why.

Did they catch her?

Was she still walking this earth, plotting to reattempt the kidnap?

The thought sent a chill up my spine and I suddenly felt as if I was being watched. I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to handle being back at the stadium; the same place I was kidnapped from. But it was surprisingly easy especially because the coach wouldn’t let me out of his sight.

Instead of sitting on the bleachers, I was forced to sit in the penalty box with Coach Bower protectively hovering over me. I wasn’t allowed to even go to the bathroom by myself. I felt like a child, and I hated that everybody was watching me so intently like I might disappear at any moment.

The game started and I sat watching as Aiden played. He made it all seem so effortless and, in my opinion, he was even better this time around than he was the first time. The other team must have been spoken to because they didn’t try to single Aiden out and attack him again.

It made for an easier game.

We were down to the final seconds and the game was tied. I was on the edge of my seat, practically chewing on my fingernails while Coach yelled at the team to get their asses together. Everybody in the stadium cheered and counted down the timer.

Just as the buzzer went off, Aiden swung, and the puck flew into the net.

The cheering was ear-shattering as everybody stomped their feet and practically shook the entire building. I jumped to my feet and screamed for Aiden, happiness overfilling me.

Aiden skated over to the rest of his team and received hugs and pats on his back. But his eyes flickered over to me, and his smile grew even wider. Without a single thought more, he skated over to me quickly and plucked me out of the penalty box.

I protested between giggles, but it could hardly be heard over the cheering. I gave up and wrapped my arms around him to steady myself; his arms firmly around my waist as he skated with me toward the center of the rink with his teammates.

He lifted me higher and all the hockey players on the Statford Freeze Hockey Team cheered my name. I wasn’t sure why they were cheering my name, but it made everybody in the stadium also cheer my name.

I couldn’t help but laugh though my face was the color of a cheery. Aiden finally lowered me and kissed me hard on the lips and I kissed him back with just as must need.

When we finally broke apart, we were breathless, and I wanted so much more at that moment. But I knew it was going to have to wait until later.

By the time we got back to the locker room, none of us could keep the smiles off our faces. That is until Aiden grabbed his phone from his locker, and he frowned almost immediately.

“What is it?” I asked him curiously.

“My mom has called like 5 times,” he said, pressing the phone to his cheek. He was calling her back. “Hey, mom. What’s up? Everything okay?”

He paused for a moment and then his eyes grew large, and his face paled.

“What? How?”

He paused again.

I could almost hear her frantically on the other end, but I couldn’t hear what she was saying. But telling from the expression on Aiden’s face, I knew it wasn’t good.

“Okay… yeah, I’ll come,” he said and then he hung up the phone.

“What happened?” I asked him, worry filling my tone.

He met my eyes, and I could see the different emotions swirling around his eyes as he said, “My father was poisoned.”
