Chapter 80
Miranda
Laughter floats from the party down below. People dance and hug, drinks occupying their hands. The day felt like it passed by too soon but has also lasted long enough to give me memories of a lifetime. It became slightly overwhelming, though, with constant eyes on me and with everyone dying to get a moment to talk with Sebastian and I.
It is our wedding day, after all, who wouldn’t want to talk to the Luna bride and Alpha groom?
It’s the event of the decade. The country’s ice cold Alpha King has finally found his fated mate, the woman whom he is going to spend the rest of his life with.
I am so lucky to be that woman. It makes everything that Sebastian and I have gone through so much more worth it.
If someone were to ask me if I had the chance to go back in time and change any of the choices I made, what would I change?
My response? Nothing. I do not regret a single thing.
I watch from a balcony that overlooks our wedding reception. The flood of people is overwhelming but I love seeing how joyous their faces are. Drunken laughter mixes in with the band’s lively music. It’s a sight that someone would see in a movie.
Maybe Sebastian and I’s ending is that of a movie, one that exits in pure fantasy. We’ve endured all of the odds that were thrown against up. Sebastian has defeated the Rogue King and I am finally rid of my old family and am in full control of Moonlit Labs and the Silvertail Pack.
Life has become good once again. Things have calmed down and I am able to breathe again after feeling like I have been drowning for so long.
A pair of hands find themselves on my waist. I smile and bite my lips, feeling Sebastian’s lips pepper kisses from my shoulder all the way up my neck and to my cheek. I turn at the final moment and our lips meet for a sweet kiss.
“You know, the party is down there, not up here,” Sebastian chuckles. I roll my eyes and lay my hands on top of his, looking back down at the lively scene.
“I know, I know,” I respond, “I just needed to get away for a moment to breathe.”
“The air is nicer when we are alone,” he adds. I laugh and nod, biting my lip.
Yes. Yes it is.
“Sebastian?” His name rolls off my tongue like butter. He hums in response. “I have to admit…I am nervous for the future.”
“You are?” He asks. It’s my turn to hum. “Why is that, my love?”
“I don’t know,” I sigh, frustrated with myself, “I have this lingering feeling in the back of my mind that something bad is going to happen.”
Sebastian turns me around in his arms. I look up and our eyes meet. My body immediately relaxes and I tilt my head to the side. He matches my movement, his focus solely trained on me. I have to fight the urge to kiss him again. I love the way he makes me feel so seen and heard.
It’s hard to believe that he is the same man I first met. Someone who was so cold and cruel. I wish to never to be on that side of him ever again. I wish nothing but good luck to those who find themselves on Sebastian’s bad side.
“I don’t know…I think it may just be my mind playing game on me, that’s all,” I sheepishly admit, looking away. Sebastian hooks his finger under my chin and brings my gaze back to his. I sigh and lean into his touch, resting the weight of my head onto his finger. “I finally have something good happen to me and it feels like I’m waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under me.”
“Your mind has a very active imagination,” Sebastian muses.
“I think it is my anxiety coming for me,” I chuckle and he joins me, his hand moving from my chin to cup my cheek.
“If something bad were to happen, I promise that I will shield you from it. I will protect you from whoever wants to harm us and put an end to them. And I will never, ever, let you go again. I promise you that, my dear Luna,” Sebastian’s words bring me immense comfort. I nod and smile up at him.
“You mean that?” I ask. I know he does but I just need the confirmation that yes, he will always be here to protect me as well as the children we have together.
“Miranda, if I ever say no to that question, just know that someone has replaced me with a clone.”
I laugh at his dramatics. Has he always been this funny? How am I just now seeing Sebastian’s humorous side? It’s wonderful!
I am so happy that I get to see it for the rest of my life now that we are married.
“We’ll face our problems together,” I say, looking down at our hands. I lace our fingers together and give his hands a gentle squeeze, looking back up at him. “It’s me and you, Sebastian.”
“Us against the world, my love,” he brings my hands up to his mouth. He presses gentle kisses against my knuckles. My heart flutters inside my chest and I have to hold back a girlish giggle.
“Mommy! Daddy!” Three excited voices call from behind us. I smile and turn to face the balcony entrance, lowering myself to their height. I open my arms and they attack me with hugs, almost tackling me to the floor.
I laugh and give the three of them tight hugs, earning a few groans from Ella who gets squished in the middle of the group. I stand back up and look down at them. Sebastian picks Ella up with ease, the little girl beaming at him with a bright smile in the light purple dress she wears.
“Where did you guys go?! We looked everywhere for you! The fireworks are about to start!” Evan calls out. I pick him up and set him on the thick railing that covers the balcony. I quickly snatch Noah up before he can ask me to do the same thing, setting him beside Evan.
“Your mother wanted to find the best seats for us! You know, for the fireworks,” Sebastian muses and winks at me before smiling at Ella, who fixes his hair for him.
“Ewwww,” Noah calls out with his face all scrunched up, “Were you two kissing?”
“Gross!” Evan pretends to gag. I slip between the two boys and wrap my arms around their torsos, keeping them snug so they don’t fall over the edge.
“Oh hush, you two!” I roll my eyes and tickle their sides. They giggle and lean into me. Sebastian moves behind me, Ella still in his arms, as the first firework shoots into the sky.
The three kids gasp. All of our heads tilt up, watching as the ball of explosives bursts into an array of bright colors.
Blues, reds, greens, and yellows fill the night sky. People cheer from down below, clapping at the site. Noah, Ella, and Evan point to the shapes and colors, immersed in the light show. I laugh at their reactions. My heart is filled with immense joy and I can’t fight the smile off of my face no matter how hard I try.
I turn to look at Sebastian from over my shoulder. He smiles back at me and leans in, our lips capturing each other’s in a sweet and delicate kiss.
This is our happy ending. Our destiny. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
