Chapter 69
Lily, Harper, & Alpha
They were left stranded on the outskirts of the Alpha King’s estate with ripped clothes and battered faces. The Alpha’s neck bleeds, his blood having been drawn from the Alpa King himself, unleashing his fury upon the man. It puzzled the Alpha.
Why would anyone care that much for Miranda? She’s a half-breed! She is lower than the scum of the earth and the gum that is stuck on the bottom of a desk in the library. She has no worth, besides being a whore and having children outside of her fated mate, but her mate couldn’t possibly be Sebastian! He’s an Alpha King and Miranda is, well, absolutely nothing! She wouldn’t even be in the position she has if it weren’t for his daughter’s interference.
The Alpha lets out an animalistic scream, punching the air. Harper moves Lily away from him, letting her husband have his moment of despair. She rolls her eyes at him and watches as his body’s limbs flail around in the air.
“Honey,” her tone is agitated and coarse. Her dress skirt had been ripped to shreds, barely hanging on by the leftover material that laces it together. “We need to go before they come after us again.”
“Where?!” The Alpha spins around. His eyes are erratic and red, strained from his anger. Harper rolls her eyes at him and her arms cross over her chest. “We’re done for! Can you not see that?! We’ve been kicked out! We have no place to go! We’re best off by selling Lily to the highest Omega we can find! We can rebuild from there—”
“No.” Harper states. The Alpha does a double take.
“No?” He restates her word. She nods in confirmation. The Alpha laughs, hysteric from what he’s hearing. The stress of the last thirty minutes has finally gotten to him and he feels as if he is about to break in half. “Please, Harper, fucking enlighten me as to what I’m missing.”
“I think you’re a pathetic man,” she begins. Lily drops to her knees, weeping into her hands. “How dare you aim for something so low for our daughter? She was courted by the Alpha King!”
“And she was kicked out alongside us! If it weren’t fort for you and her, we’d still be eating from our silver spoons!” The Alpha retorts.
“You are an imbecile, truly. I have plans for us. I have a plan for Lily, but we must leave now while the Alpha King is distracted with his new bride!” Harper proclaims. She steps to Lily and grabs her arm, yanking her up from the ground, dragging her down the dirt road.
They walk several feet away, leaving the Alpha behind as he watches with confusion and anger written all over his face. He looks around, wondering how in the hell his life ended up like this, before scurrinying after his wife and daughter, struggling to keep up.
“Mom?” Lily asks, looking up at her mother, who has an arm protectively wrapped around her shoulders, “where are we going?”
“My dear, do you remember when we spoke about my contact that was willing to help us out?” Lily nods. “Well, he’s decided to take us in whenever we needed it. Now is our time to escape this place and join him at his side.”
“Who is he?” Lily questions. Harper holds back an aggravated groan, closing her eyes and biting her lip.
How could her daughter be so smart yet so idiotic at the same time? It’s amazing to watch. Cruelty and idiocracy go hand in hand when it comes to Lily, a combination that has ultimately brought their sudden demise.
“You will see who he is soon enough, I promise. You will be his bride and we will once rise again in the ranks and we will make Miranda and that false Alpha King she is mated with pay!” Harper yells into the dark night.
Lily whimpers but remains silent, choosing not to speak. It’s surprising, though, that her mother has all of these backup plans for her and her father. Has she always been so cunning? How many plans has Harper made that revolved around Lily’s marital status?
Chills run down Lily’s spine at the thought. She truly has been a pawn in her mother’s game. Her mother is the game master, the one in charge of all the schemes. Her father, who she once thought to be this great and ferocious leader, has turned out to be a fool, a mere jester in her mother’s court.
Had lily become a mockery as well?
“Lily, you’re going to need to change and pack all your best clothes, okay? You must do this or else he won’t take you in,” Harper commands, ushering her daughter up the stairs of their mansion. “Be quick! We are leaving in ten minutes!”
Lily rushes up the stairs, disappearing into the darkness. Harper turns to her husband, looking him up and down with a snarl.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?” The Alpha strikes. Harper scoffs.
“You’re lucky I’m allowing you to come with us.” Harper exits the home and gets inside the car outside, engine running. Lily pushes past her father, bags in hand, as she joins her mother. The Alpha rushes behind, piling into the backseat.
The car peels out of the driveway, leaving tire marks in its wake, as they barrel out of the city as fast as they can. Harper takes the backroads, keeping the car lights as low as they can so they are not spotted.
Lily and the Alpha hold on for dear life, being tossed around the car like rag dolls. Harper reaches into the glovebox. She snatches a flare gun from the compartment. Her window rolls down and her arm shoots out as they bolt down a dirt path. The car dips into a shallow river, speeding across. Harper shoots the flare.
A green line forms in the sky. At its peak, it erupts into a plume of dark green smoke. Harper continues to drive for another thirty minutes, driving in complete darkness as if she knows the route by heart. She slams on the breaks once they leave the cover of the forest.
“Everyone out!” She barks. They obey her demands and jump from the car, following as she marches across a dead field. No life grows here. Not even a blade of grass can survive in the desolate climate.
In the distance, popped up tents and it torches dimly light the sky. The closer they get, the more menacing the small village becomes. Lily attaches herself to her father’s side and he holds her close, staying behind Harper as they walk.
Once they are close enough to make out the figures of people, guns are raised and pointed at their heads. Demands are barked at them, telling the trio to get down on their knees.
They place their hands behind their heads as the soldiers feel their bodies for any hidden weapons or communication devices.
“State your business!” One soldier yells, staring directly at Harper. A small smirk forms on her face, her fingers tapping the back of her head.
“Tell the Rogue King his Harper is here with his bride.”
