Chapter 44
As the sun bathed my old family home in warm rays of light, the triplets and I busily unpacked boxes, making the place feel more like home with each passing day. Each of our personalities shone with the decorations and knick knacks we placed throughout our home.
As much fun as I was having making this space our own, I was having trouble keeping my eyes open, and staying focused on the tasks in front of me. I’d never been so worn out and it was making me cranky.
Nicholas noticed my fatigue growing, and with concern etched on his face he gently touched my arm. "Beryl, you should take a break. Moving is hard work, and you need to rest," he urged me.
“Hmm, I think you’re right. I’ll go lie down for a bit.” I walked away from them, but I could feel their concerned looks following me out of the room.
I could tell the triplets were confused by my lack of energy, but after everything I’d been through recently, it seemed as though they wanted to give me all the time I needed to get through things.
Later that evening, after my short rest, we were unpacking our kitchen items, when my hand slipped and I almost dropped a coffee mug. “Oh, goodness. Clumsy me.” I tried to laugh it off.
“Are you sure you’re alright, love?” Cheney walked over and took my hands in his, drawing me away from the counter top I was leaning against.
I tried to muster a smile but couldn't hide the exhaustion in my eyes. "I just want to get everything settled quickly. This house means so much to me," I admitted, glancing around at the memories that filled the familiar rooms.
Unbeknownst to the triplets, I had been feeling peculiar lately. In the midst of the move, I had been experiencing bouts of dizziness and fatigue. And then, one day, as I was organizing a shelf, everything went dark, and I collapsed.
The triplets rushed to my side in panic, their voices overlapping as they called my name. "Beryl! Beryl, wake up! Are you okay?" Brian asked, his voice trembling with worry.
Nicholas quickly called for an ambulance, and within minutes, I was whisked away to the hospital. Cheney and Brian followed close behind, their anxiety palpable.
In the hospital room, a doctor examined me, and after some tests, he turned to me with a kind smile. "Congratulations, Beryl. You're pregnant," he announced.
My eyes widened in shock, the reality of the situation sinking in. I couldn't believe it – I was going to be a mother. A mix of joy and apprehension washed over me.
Meanwhile, Armand received the news about my fainting spell and rushed to the hospital, showing a concern that I hadn’t realized he’d had for me. When he arrived, he found the triplets and I in the room. "What happened?" he asked, fear for me evident in his voice.
Having not told the triplets what the doctor had told me, I was hesitant to reveal the truth about my pregnancy in Amy's presence. Even though Armand knew about the torment I endured from his girlfriend, he turned a seemingly blind eye to her behavior because she was carrying his child.
The triplets, would want to protect me from any additional harm, and I wasn’t sure how they, or their father would react to the news. I wasn’t sure how Amy would react either.
Uneasy, I decided to play it off. "I think I just overexerted myself with all the moving," I spoke weakly, trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
Armand looked relieved, but his attention was diverted when a nurse entered the room, asking him to sign some paperwork. As he excused himself, I shot a meaningful look at the triplets, hoping they wouldn’t be hurt by the lie when they found out later.
Back at the house, I tried to find subtle ways to hint at my condition to the triplets, but Armand, kept them occupied with matters of business. Frustrated, I confided in them about my suspicions that some of the guards watching over me seemed to be loyal to Amy.
Nicholas clenched his jaw, his protective instincts flaring. "We won't let anything happen to you, Beryl. We'll make sure you're safe," he vowed, his brothers nodding in agreement.
As days turned into weeks, my pregnancy progressed, and my bond with the triplets grew even stronger. I reveled in the love and support they offered, finding solace in their unwavering commitment to me, and unbeknownst to the, their unborn child.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, I sat with the triplets in the garden, a sense of peace washing over me. I looked into their eyes and spoke softly, "Thank you, each of you, for being here for me. I couldn't have asked for better mates."
Nicholas took her hand, his expression tender. "We love you, Beryl. You mean everything to us. It might have taken us some time to figure out how to do this together, but here, now, with you, we wouldn’t want it any other way." he said, the sentiment echoed by Cheney and Brian.
Suddenly, a rustling in the bushes caught their attention, and they saw one of the guards who we suspected was loyal to Amy lurking nearby. Realizing they were being watched, Cheney growled lowly, his protective instincts taking over.
The guard quickly retreated, and my heart pounded with fear. "They won't leave me alone, will they?" I whispered, a mix of frustration and vulnerability in my voice. I wanted nothing ,ore than to share the news of this baby with my mates, but not if it meant Amy finding out as well.
Brian wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. "We won't let them get near you. You're our priority, and we'll make sure you're safe," he assured me, the determination evident in his eyes.
With each passing day, my pregnancy grew more evident, and hiding the truth from everyone became increasingly challenging. The triplets devised a plan to discreetly increase security around the house and maintaining a vigilant watch for any potential threats, while substituting the guards loyal to Amy with those that were loyal to us.
In the house that I had grown up in, and would eventually raise my baby in the bond between the triplets and I grew unyielding, forming a united front against the darkness that lurked outside. As we faced the challenges together, we found strength in our love and trust, ready to protect each other at any cost. I just had to figure out how to tell the, about our baby without Amy finding out.
