Chapter 40
Beryl:
The werewolf triplets nod, acknowledging their father's words. My eyes glistened with tears as I took in the brothers' devotion, worried about what the future would bring.
The room was quiet for a few minutes, the triplets looking from one another to me, us all trying to figure out how to proceed. “Are you ok?” Nicholas whispered, looking into my eyes. I smiled at each of them, hoping that this competitiveness wouldn’t tear us all apart.
My stomach turned as an all too familiar voice shook me from my thoughts. “Armand, honey, I’m ready to go now.” I turned and saw Amy standing in the doorway, looking smug. She was dressed in a skin tight top and mini skirt, leaving nothing to the imagination.
“W-what are you doing here?” My voice shook as I tried to understand why on earth she would be in this house. I blinked a few times, trying to wake myself from this nightmare. “Oh, you don’t know?” Amy laughed, sauntering over and plopping herself down in Armand’s lap.
“Armand and I are together.” She leaned into him, pushing her minimal cleavage up into his face, running her fingers through his hair. “
Oh, and boys, I have such amazing news! Surprise! You’re all going to be brothers!” She laughed again, looking to the triplets as she rubbed her stomach.
Shocked, I looked from her to the triplets, who were looking equally shocked and upset. “Mm, I wasn’t quite ready to share that news yet.” Armand growled quietly, moving to stand up, pushing Amy gently away.
“You’re only a few weeks along. It’s really too soon. All manner of things could happen. Werewolf pregnancies are known for their miscarriages.” Armand looked truly upset, and a bit embarrassed. I was shocked that he had allowed himself to get into this situation.
“So sorry, dear. I thought it was time they all knew. I’m still not sure why you’ve been so secretive about us.” Amy sneered at me while she talked, knowing why Armand might not want me to know of their relationship.
I hadn't realized I had been moving away from her until my back bumped against Nicholas’ chest. He gently placed his arms around my waist, knowing how upset this would make me and offering comfort. He rested his chin on my shoulder, getting as close to me as he could.
I felt Cheney’s hand wrap around my fingers and squeezed his hand in response. Brian reached out and took the other hand. I glanced over to see tenderness in his eyes.
The comfort my mates provided me with was much needed and the only way I could wrap my mind around this shocking news. What the hell was going on here?
Armand had the decency to clear his throat and offer an apology. “Beryl, I’m sorry that you found out this way. Amy and I reconnected recently, and things have, well... progressed. The baby was unexpected.”
“Ugh, this is ridiculous. Who cares how they feel? I’m ready to go, so let's go.” Amy’s mood shifted, and her impatience was obvious. “Go to the car. I have things I must grab first.”
I was still in shock, but the deference that Armand showed Amy made my mouth fall open. He was so strong willed and such a huge presence that I would never have imagined any woman bossing him around.
Amy huffed, crossed her arms, and then stormed from the room. The sight of her brought visions of toddlers throwing tantrums to my mind. Armand nodded his goodbye, and we were left in silence to figure out what had just happened.
Amy:
As I stomped from the room, I grinned to myself. That went exactly how I had hoped it would, aside from Armand being upset, that is. Seeing the shock and hurt on Beryl’s face had been perfection.
It brought me joy to see the looks on all of their faces. I had been surprised at how much I had enjoyed seeing the triplets upset. They were just pawns in my game to hurt and humiliate their so called mate.
I knew that Armand would have plenty to say to me later for inserting myself into the conversation today, but I didn’t care. I had grown tired of waiting on him to tell them about us.
Walking from the room, I knew that my little scene had completely uprooted their day. That had been my plan. I had tried to crash Beryl’s birthday party the night before, but Armand had been insistent that we spend the night away from the house.
I had been lucky that he had let me come with him to get his paperwork this morning, and even though he told me to wait in the car, I'd come inside anyway, hoping to cause this very commotion. Smiling to myself, I made my way back to the waiting town car.
My phone rang, and I looked around, making sure I was alone before I answered it. “Bob, how are you this lovely morning.” I purred into the phone. Armand’s brother was in regular contact with me lately.
“Amy, how close are we to our goal?” Bob was more impatient than me, something we were going to have to work on. “Tsk, tsk. You know we can’t discuss this over the phone. I’ll let you know something later, when we meet. You’ll be there, right?”
“Yes, same time, usual place?” He always questioned me, but it was always the same answer. “Yes, goodbye now.” I hung up the phone before he said anything more. I couldn’t risk someone overhearing me talking to him.
Armand and his brother had always had a heated relationship, but it was only after a little push from me that Bob even began to consider overthrowing the Alpha King. My plan at revenge and power was coming along nicely.
As much fun as id been having with Armand, he was too strong willed. I wanted Bob to become the Alpha King so that I would be in charge of the werewolf empire. That was my main goal, and to break Beryl’s spirit at the same time.
