Chapter 6 6

LUCIUS’S POV

The girl, Valeria, gave me the best time I have ever had in decades. Women were usually too weak or too inexperienced for my liking. What she lacks in experience, she makes up for with her never-ending stamina and her eagerness to learn. The most fascinating Virgin I tell you. I knew instantly that I had found my new obsession.

She fell asleep right after and I spent hours watching her unconscious body. Watching as she squinted and winced in pain, probably thinking we were at it again. The girl is just like I wanted. She only woke up after two hours, by then, I had freshened up and continued working on some files. I was searching through my bookshelves for a particular file when she woke up.

I watched her slowly get familiar with her surroundings and then she slowly closed her eyes back up. “Valeria?” I called, knowing I had exhausted her enough for her to fall back asleep right there. So I helped her up and carried her out of my study to her assigned room much to her disapproval.

I even went as far as helping her with bathing water and a change of clothing. Something I would never have done if it were another one. I just realised right then I there that I had a weakness, something I had spent so long making sure I didn’t have. Because of the number of enemies I had, I knew a weakness would only be a distraction I had worked so well in avoiding having women and emotions in the same part of my heart since my last left.

It’s almost comical how this girl disrupted everything in less than one day. The fucking mate bond should have compensation for changing our lives all at once. Now I don’t need to only protect her, but I was commencing a war for her cause. And the scariest part, I don’t regret it, don’t feel like it was a waste of time. I wanted to do it over and over again if I could have her to myself as a reward for that.

“Your Highness”

I raised my head abruptly to stare at my beta who I figured had been blabbing since he walked in. I arched my brow in response and he spoke.

“I asked if you want me to inform our troops to officially begin training for war?”

“Not yet, I will have an audience with the commander of each wing tomorrow morning, let them be informed, I want them at the training ground as early as sunrise.”

“Will do that, your Highness.”

“And the girl?”

“What about her?” I raised my head to stare skeptically at him, he was picking up interest in something that wasn't his damn business and it was really getting on my nerves.

“Is she to be returned to Godric?”

“That will be my decision to make, is there a reason why I must share it with you?”

“Not a single one your Highness.”

“You are dismissed. Make sure the elders are also present for the meeting. I do not want to have to repeat myself to them afterward. Everyone involved in the pack’s affair should be present in fact.”

“That will be done your Highbess.” He bowed deeply and walked out of the study silently.

I have lots of work to carry out, a reasonable person would have sat back and gotten their work done but I did none of that. I helped myself up, out of the study, and in search of my new obsession. She wasn’t in her room and so I had to look around the palace.

At the end, I spotted her in the garden, enjoying the breezy evening, seeming to be in a very deep thought. In order not to startle her, I cleared my throat to announce my present but even that nearly sent her falling to the ground from the chair she sat.

“Ohh….” She placed her hands on her chest. “It’s you.”

“Were you expecting anyone else?” I covered the rest of the distance between us, coming to take a seat beside her.

“Not really, which is why I got scared by your sudden appearance.”

“I hope by now you understand I am not the type of fella to say “sorry I scared you princess, that is far from my intention.” I bowed to add.

“That’s plain. Plain is boring.” She chuckled and shifted to give him space on the bench.

“Great to know you are well-informed in that aspect. So you get used to my sudden appearance cause you are going to be getting a lot of that.”

“Uhummm..”

“What are you doing out here?” There was really nothing interesting to look at but vast flowers.

“Clearing my head.”

“What got your head in a chokhole?” I tried not to let my tone convey how curious I was. Conversing with her is always a great time. I have never had problems reading people but with her, it was like a blocked wall. Nothing in her expression conveys what comes out of my mouth before she says it. When she speaks, she always leaves me wondering what the heck is going through her head.

“It’s almost comical how my life took a drastic turn in what… a single day?”

“You still feel like it’s too good to be true?” I couldn't see anything on her face. Not if she perceives the change in a good or bad way, so I decided to go neutral with my words.

She raised her head to stare at me for a while, then she turned back to the flowers. “You know…..if I don’t know the history of lycans, I can swear you read minds.”

“Why’s that?” I beamed.

“Because you took the words right out of my mouth, plus now’s not the first time you are doing that.”

“I am just an excellent observer.”

“Did Godric reach out to you yet?”

See what I told you about the random her thoughts were?

Tell me why I wouldn’t start a war for her sake?
