Chapter 6 At the court

Chapter 6

Eileen pov

I ran after him, unwilling to let go. He slid into his car slamming the door shut before I could even come near him, and he drove off.

I couldn't believe the fact that he would abandon me.

‘But he doesn't owe you anything. Why should he care about you?’ a small voice whispered in the back of my mind.

I dragged in a deep breath.

Truth!

Kai doesn't owe me his attention, sympathy, or even anything.

I walked to my car with the hope of finding a miracle. I noticed the keys were not on me which implies that they must've fallen off my body while I was being dragged.

I laughed at my pathetic self. “Duh, I'm so miserable.” I thought inwardly, hitting hard against my head as I reflected on the past events.

Williams stood there watching his family mistreat me like a rag.

In ten years to come I wouldn't believe any of this should someone told me that Williams will no longer find me attractive or even do anything to support me.

“What?” My eyes bulged out the moment I saw my car keys stuck in the ignition hole.

A sense of relief washed over me. If I hadn't found the key, I would have taken a cab home and contacted the towing company to help tow my car home.

I guessed the universe wasn’t against me in other words, things might still be working in my favor.

Sliding into my car I drove straight to the hospital, but had called my mum’s attorney over.

When Attorney Josh arrived. I told him to take a photograph. The red streaks on my cheeks, arms, and also take note of the doctor’s diagnosis.

I explained everything to him and asked if there was any chance I’d be on the winning side.

Attorney Josh smiled at me. “Of course ma. Your husband will surely go to jail for bigamy. At least he will be spending two years in prison, and his private assets will be shared 70/30 with you getting the seventy percent.”

“Thank you,” I muttered. “What about the case of domestic violence,” I asked and attorney Josh’s ecstatic mood plummeted.

“I’m sorry that you were a victim of such circumstances but your chances of winning the case against them are slim. They might have lied that you came there to stir chaos in their ongoing party, and of course camera footage of your presence at the venue is with them. In other words, we might win and not win.”

I nodded. “Thanks for telling me the truth.”

“You’re welcome, Eileen.”

“If I’m not mistaken I’m sure you can still find them at the venue. I want you to deliver my divorce letter and a court notice to Williams. He stole my land document, diamond necklace, and replaced them with counterfeit ones.” I breathed. “Charge Melissa Robert for detaining and restricting my movements with the help of some thugs,” I said. My fist clenched against the table, fingers scraping through the surface.

I promised you Williams that you’ll regret ever toiling with my feelings.

As attorney Josh left, I drove home with a heavy heart.

I just took my bath and fell asleep.

I wish I had never woken from my sleep earlier today. I wish I had a stone heart when I’m unbothered by my lover.

God…

Three days after

A day before the court.

“Dring…” my phone rang. When I glance at the screen, my heart twitched in panic.

It was Williams calling me.

But why is he calling me? Was he calling me to beg that I withdraw the case?

My jaw clenched such that my teeth sank into my inner cheeks.

Never!

I will never withdraw the charges against him and his new wife.

I promised myself not to pick up his call but my hands unwilling swiped the answer icons.

I pressed the phone to my ears, butterflies swimming in the bottom of my stomach.

Williams called me? I smiled feeling happy.

But the happiness faded quickly the moment I heard her voice. My heart clenched tightly under my chest painfully.

Williams’s laughter in the background and his words. “Your pussy is so tight compared to my loose wife’s pussy. Her pussy stinks, even though she has a stale breath.”

His words pierced through my heart like an arrow.

Tears threatened to fall but I sniffled in my tears, gnawing at my lips.

“Yes?” I said, unable to bear the silence and emotional torture.

I know Williams wouldn’t say that. Melissa must’ve made him say that then put the phone on record.

She intended to break my heart.

Her soft laughter filled my ears before her words. “You really want to do this, Elena?” She asked me. “You think you could win against me?”

“Are you calling to beg me to withdraw the charges? If yes, then I’m sorry to disappoint you as it is a mission impossible. And if you’re calling to taunt me. Congratulations, you just won the best award.” I said hanging up before she uttered a word.

I clutched both my hands to my chest to calm my beating heart.

“I’ll surely win,” I said to myself.  “Tomorrow the court will hear my vengeance and my pain.”

The next day.

At the court.

“Objection, irrelevant.” William’s attorney said that when my attorney had asked if he stole my land documents or not.

“Overruled.” The judge said.

How could he say it was irrelevant when Williams had actually stolen my documents and diamonds?

I presented my evidence to the court but it seems like I was uttering gibberish.

Witnesses were brought forth and they all testified against me saying I had come to disrupt the wedding.

My attorney questioned. “Is it true that you, Mr. Williams have many companies under your name during your marriage to my client but always lied to her that you have no money. Is it true that you’ve been cheating with Miss Melissa Robert while you were still married to Mrs. Elena, my client?”

A coy smile tugged at the top corner of Williams’s lips. “She’s being delusional. She’s lying. I don’t have any company under my name. They all belonged to Melissa Robert.” He lied.

I interjected. “Lies! He’s lying. He was cheating while we were married. He…”

“Silence!”  The court clerk ordered.

My attorney tried to pacify me, he whispered to me. “Don’t talk unless the judge asks you to speak.”

But his words entered through my right ears and flew out of my left ears.

Williams’s defense attorney said. “Do you have any evidence that can prove that the company was all registered in my client’s name? Do you have the evidence of his cheating?”

Nah I don’t have, but the company… the private investigator gave them to me.

The last time I checked, the documents were all carrying William’s name.

My attorney handed it over.

William’s attorney received and checked through it, a cunning smile spreading across his entire lips.

“You see? This document carries Melissa Robert’s name. She’s the owner of this company not your husband ma.”

Surprise etched into my face and my jaw dropped as I heard the defense attorney say.

I shook my head, my words coming out as a slur, “No way.  It was carrying William’s name.”

A laugh rippled through the air.

“I think Mrs Elena is frustrated and having a mental breakdown just like my client had said earlier on. My suggestion will be for Mrs. Elena to be taken to a psychiatric hospital.”

“Objection, derogatory.” My attorney sneered.

Maybe they were telling the truth. I’m having a mental breakdown cause tell me why everything keeps changing.

Why?

A divorce letter was shown to the court which had my signature.

I never signed it. “Williams must’ve forged my signature.  I don’t remember signing it.” I gritted my teeth.

Williams’s lawyer leaned forward with a sinister smile on his face. “It’s okay if you don’t remember anything ma. My client already said you’re having dementia.” he said.

“Objection, irrelevant.” my attorney countered.

“Objection, overruled.” The judge countered my attorney.

I turned back to see Melissa grinning from ear to ear.

“She must’ve done it!” I yelled pointing accusatory fingers at her.

Murmurs ripple in the air in the courtroom, my legs wobbling.

Now, I have no substantial evidence to make Williams pay for anything,

The court asked if I had any witnesses. I turned to face the audience, my eyes scanning the entire courtroom once they landed on Kai.

A deep scowl marred his face as he gave me a killer look.

I turned around facing the judge. I shook my head.

“This court hereby rules_”

When the sounds of the judge’s hammer struck, my knees buckled and my world came crashing.

Why do I feel like justice isn't for someone like me? That I've lost this case.

Let it be known to the world that if I died that love was my only crime.
