La position de Jane.

Je fixais mon reflet dans le miroir, tournant légèrement pour avoir une bonne vue de ma robe.

C'était une simple robe d'été faite par ma mère, et mes cheveux auburn étaient attachés en une queue de cheval soignée. Et je portais une nouvelle paire de sandales que ma mère avait achetée au marché local.

Mes lèvres se courbèrent en un sourire, pensant que j'étais jolie. Mais le nœud dans mon estomac montrait à quel point j'étais nerveuse. C'était le jour le plus important de ma vie, mais mon anxiété prenait le dessus.

Aujourd'hui, je vais rencontrer mon compagnon destiné, je l'espère. Il y a une célébration aujourd'hui dans notre meute. Des Alphas de différentes meutes ont été invités à l'événement.

C'est un bal de rencontre où les Alphas loup-garous non appariés ont la chance de rencontrer leurs compagnons, et cela se passe une fois par an.

Je n'ai pas d'amis. Personne ne veut être ami avec une fille faible et maladroite comme moi. Je reçois beaucoup d'amour de ma mère. Mais mon père ne m'a jamais vraiment aimée parce qu'il pense que je suis une honte pour lui. Il me méprise parce que je suis une louve sans loup. Il avait besoin d'une fille forte qui prendrait sa relève quand il serait vieux et ne pourrait plus être le Bêta de la Meute. Je n'étais pas la fille de ses rêves, et il ne manque jamais de me montrer à quel point il est déçu.

Depuis mes plus jeunes années d'adolescence, je ne voulais rien de plus que de rencontrer mon compagnon. J'avais l'espoir qu'il pourrait faire éclore mon loup quand il me marquerait. Notre lien de compagnon pourrait libérer mon côté loup, et même s'il n'y avait aucune garantie pour cela, je m'accrochais toujours à cette pensée.

Ma mère m'a toujours enseigné à propos de mon compagnon. Un compagnon qui m'aimerait et me chérirait. Un compagnon qui m'accepterait pour ce que je suis. Un compagnon qui ne serait pas déçu, mais accepterait mes défauts avec un cœur chaleureux. J'ai eu assez de critiques et de harcèlement pour toute une vie. Je prie pour un compagnon qui ne me montrerait rien d'autre qu'un amour pur.

J'ai toujours cru que mon compagnon m'aimerait et me protégerait, et je sais que la Déesse de la Lune est gentille, et qu'elle exaucera mon plus grand désir.

J'ai 16 ans et je prie pour trouver mon compagnon aujourd'hui à la célébration. Tous les loups de la meute se préparent pour la grande célébration.

Beaucoup de nourriture et de boissons étaient en préparation. Les louves se faisaient belles dans leurs plus belles robes et se maquillaient. Je n'avais pas de robe chic ni de maquillage, mais ma robe d'été était plus que suffisante pour moi. Tout ce que je veux ce soir, c'est rencontrer mon compagnon destiné.

"Jane," ma mère frappa à ma porte. "Es-tu là?"

"Oui, Maman, j'arrive," je me précipitai vers la porte, je la déverrouillai pour révéler ma mère qui était déjà toute habillée.

"Jane, qu'est-ce que tu fais? Pourquoi n'es-tu pas encore descendue?" demanda-t-elle.

"Je descends dans une minute. Je dois encore arranger mes cheveux," dis-je précipitamment, me sentant de nouveau nerveuse.

Elle remarqua mon malaise et prit mon visage entre ses mains.

"Jane, qu'est-ce qui ne va pas? Te sens-tu malade?"

"Non, Maman, je vais bien, juste –" je m'arrêtai. Comment pouvais-je lui dire que j'avais peur?

"Tu n'es pas heureuse de rencontrer enfin ton compagnon aujourd'hui?" continua-t-elle.

"Bien sûr que je le suis, Maman. Je suis la fille la plus heureuse du monde. J'espère que la déesse de la lune me bénira d'un compagnon. J'espère que je verrai mon compagnon aujourd'hui, Maman," dis-je en forçant un sourire.

"Bien sûr que tu le verras, ma chérie. Je suis sûre que tu rencontreras ton compagnon destiné, qui t'aimera et te chérira," dit-elle.

Entendre ses mots si fermement chassa mes doutes. Je me sentais à nouveau confiante, et c'était grâce à elle.

"Merci, Maman," souris-je, en lui donnant un rapide câlin.

"Pas de problème, ma chère. D'accord, va finir rapidement. Tu ne veux pas manquer la célébration. Je t'attendrai en bas. Ne prends pas trop de temps, d'accord ?"

"D'accord," je fermai la porte et me précipitai vers mon miroir en pied. Je pris une grande inspiration, me préparant pour ce soir.

Ça va aller, Jane. Tout ira bien. Je me donnais un petit discours d'encouragement. Je fais ça chaque fois que je suis nerveuse et effrayée.

"Jane," j'entendis Maman m'appeler à nouveau.

"J'arrive !" Je fis un dernier tour rapide et dévalai les escaliers pour rejoindre ma mère.

"Tu es magnifique, ma chérie," complimenta Maman alors que je descendais les escaliers.

"Merci, Maman," riais-je, en liant mon bras au sien. Nous sortîmes de la maison et arrivâmes au bal quelques minutes plus tard.

La grande salle était magnifiquement décorée. Tout le monde était vêtu de ses plus beaux habits. Les Alphas accouplés avaient leurs tables d'un côté avec leurs Lunas, et les Alphas non accouplés avaient leurs tables de l'autre côté. Les louves non accouplées à la fête étaient en effervescence.

Bientôt, notre Alpha fit son entrée grandiose avec sa Luna et alla s'asseoir. Mon père s'assit à côté de l'Alpha puisqu'il est le Bêta de la meute.

Mon regard ne quittait pas l'un des Alphas non accouplés. Je souhaite en savoir plus sur cet Alpha remarquable. Il est parfaitement fait. Il est si beau que cela me rend jalouse.

Comment un homme peut-il être si parfait et en même temps si beau ? Est-il mon compagnon ? Je ne sais pas puisque je n'ai pas de loup.

Mais il ne pourrait pas l'être, il semblait être un homme puissant. Je doute qu'un tel homme soit accouplé à une fille faible comme moi.

Peut-être que je suis juste attirée par lui à cause de son apparence éblouissante.

"Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas ? Qui regardes-tu ?" demanda ma mère, m'interrompant.

"Rien, je me sens juste un peu attirée par cet homme là-bas," dis-je en pointant l'Alpha.

"Arrête ça, Jane. Tu sais quel Alpha tu pointes ? Il est le plus notoire, le plus impitoyable Alpha de l'histoire. Tu ne veux pas provoquer la bête en lui," dit Maman.

Mais il ne semble ni cruel, ni impitoyable. Avec son apparence, il pourrait être un véritable ange du ciel. Mais encore une fois, on dit bien que les apparences peuvent être trompeuses, non ?

"Ne pointe plus jamais personne. Si j'étais toi, je me concentrerais sur la recherche de mon compagnon,"

"Je suis désolée, Maman," dis-je.

Ma mère fut entraînée par ses amies, me laissant toute seule. Je rôdais à la recherche de mon compagnon.

Le doux arôme de la nourriture envahit mes narines. Mon estomac grogna de faim et je me dirigeai vers les snacks. Sans regarder où j'allais, je me heurtai à une poitrine ferme. J'étais presque par terre quand des mains fermes attrapèrent mon poignet.

"Regarde où tu vas," une voix grave me réprimanda, alors que les mains fermes me lâchaient.

"Je suis désolée," dis-je rapidement et m'enfuis immédiatement de ses mains. Je l'ai senti. J'ai ressenti la sensation quand il m'a touchée.

Est-il mon compagnon ? Est-ce lui ? Quand je regardai autour pour voir qui m'avait empêchée de tomber, je rencontrai ses yeux sombres et brooding. Il s'était retourné et me fixait.

Je laissai échapper un léger cri de surprise. C'est l'Alpha dont Maman vient de me mettre en garde.
