La pantalla del móvil iluminó la oscuridad de la habitación con un brillo repentino. Lukas, aún adormilado, frunció el ceño al ver el nombre del llamante. Su padre. La hora insólita predecía malas noticias.

—¿Sí? —respondió con la voz rasposa del sueño.

“Lukas, hijo... lamento ser portador de mala noticia, tu abuelo ha muerto”.

El silencio se colgó pesado entre las palabras de su padre.

Un zumbido le llenó los oídos a Lukas mientras las palabras resonaban en su mente. Habían pasado diez años desde que había dejado la casa familiar, huyendo de los nuevos caprichos de su padre y de su mujer, porque detestaba a su hija.

"Lukas, ¿me escuchaste?" La voz de su padre cortó a través de sus pensamientos.

—Sí, padre… voy para allá, saldré en el primer vuelo comercial —dijo finalmente, sintiendo un nudo en la garganta.

"Quiero que sepas que Sofía también viene en camino, su madre la llamó, procura dejar las diferencias con ella, hazlo por tu abuelo, sabes cuánto la amaba.

—Lo intentaré, aunque no prometo nada… ella tiene la capacidad de hacerme enojar —dijo de mala manera, porque incluso su nombre le provocaba un profundo desagrado.

Lukas colgó el teléfono sin despedirse. Se quedó mirando al vacío por unos segundos. Suspiró profundamente y se levantó de la cama.

—Mierda —murmuró mientras buscaba su maleta.

Empezó a empacar mecánicamente. Su mente divagaba entre recuerdos de su abuelo y el disgusto de tener que ver a Sofía.

Comenzó a empacar una maleta pequeña. Ropa negra, por supuesto. Un traje para el funeral. Mientras doblaba una camisa, su mente divagaba.

"Sofía", pensó con amargura. "¿Por qué tiene que venir ella? Si no es una Martinelli auténtica".

El recuerdo de su última estadía en su casa lo invadió, la discusión con su padre y con su abuelo, por culpa de esa mocosa, apretó las manos ante los recuerdos.

Su teléfono vibró. Un mensaje de texto.

"Vuelo reservado. Salida en dos horas. No llegues tarde. Papá."

Lukas resopló. Típico de su padre, dando órdenes incluso en un momento como este.

Llamó un taxi, terminó de empacar y bajó al vestíbulo.

Cuando llegó al aeropuerto, Lukas ajustó su maleta y se unió a la fila. Suspiró, impaciente. El aeropuerto bullía de actividad.

De repente, vio a una mujer que lo flechó en el acto. Una visión en rojo. Curvas sinuosas. Cabello oscuro cayendo en cascada. Gafas de sol ocultando sus ojos.

El corazón de Lukas se aceleró. "Vaya, vaya," pensó. "Parece que este viaje será más interesante de lo que creía”.

La mujer se acercó con paso decidido. Lukas enderezó los hombros, esbozando su sonrisa más encantadora.

Ella lo ignoró por completo. En un instante, se deslizó frente a él en la fila.

Lukas parpadeó, confundido.

—¿Qué demonios...?

Antes de que pudiera reaccionar, ella ya estaba en el mostrador y un par de minutos después, salió con una sonrisa.

—Gracias por dejarme pasar —dijo la mujer con voz sedosa, agitando su boleto.

La mandíbula de Lukas cayó.

—¿Dejarte pasar? Yo no... —pero antes de que pudiera protestar, ella ya se había ido, dejando solo una estela de perfume.

Lukas se quedó mirando, atónito.

—Increíble —murmuró. —Ni siquiera Miss Perfecta Davies se atrevería a tanto.

Sacudió la cabeza, una mezcla de irritación y admiración.

—Bueno, supongo que no soy el único que sabe cómo salirse con la suya.

Lukas avanzó en la fila, aún molesto por el descaro de aquella mujer. Cuando finalmente llegó al mostrador, la encargada le sonrió amablemente.

—Buenos días, señor. ¿En qué puedo ayudarle?

—Tengo una reserva a nombre de Lukas Martinelli.

La mujer tecleó en su computadora.

—Sí, aquí está. Vuelo 302 con destino a...

—Lo sé, lo sé —interrumpió Lukas, impaciente—. ¿Puedo tener mi boleto, por favor?

—Por supuesto —respondió ella, sin perder la sonrisa—. Aquí tiene. Que tenga un buen viaje.

Lukas tomó el boleto y se dirigió hacia la seguridad. La fila era larga y tediosa. Miró su reloj, preocupado por el tiempo.

Uno a uno fueron pasando los pasajeros, cuando subió al avión miró su ticket, iba a sentarse, pero su puesto estaba ocupado, casualmente por la misma mujer vestida de rojo que se le coló.

—Señora —dijo apretando los dientes con enfado—, está sentada en mi puesto.

La mujer levantó la vista de su libro y lo miró por encima de sus gafas de sol.

—¿Disculpa? No soy señora, soy señorita, ¿acaso no ves que apenas paso de los veinte, o te faltan anteojos? —dijo con una sonrisa burlona.

—Eso no es mi problema que seas señora o señorita. Estás en mi asiento —repitió Lukas, señalando el número en su boleto.— El 14A.

Ella miró su propio boleto y luego el de Lukas.

—Oh, vaya. Parece que tienes razón —dijo sin moverse—. Qué coincidencia, ¿no?

Lukas apretó los puños.

—¿Podrías moverte, por favor?

—Mmm... no… no quiero —respondió ella, volviendo a su libro—. Estoy bastante cómoda aquí.

—Mira, no tengo tiempo para esto —gruñó Lukas—. Ese es mi asiento y quiero sentarme allí o llamaré a la azafata.

Ella volteó los ojos con esa expresión que le decía, sin palabras, eres un infantil.

—No necesitamos un representante, no somos críos ¿Por qué no te sientas en el mío? —sugirió ella, señalando el asiento de al lado—. Es prácticamente lo mismo.

Lukas la miró con incredulidad. ¿Quién se creía esta mujer?

—No es lo mismo —insistió—. Yo reservé específicamente este asiento, porque me gusta la ventanilla.

—¿Por qué? Querías ver el paisaje de las nubes —preguntó ella con sarcasmo.

—No, pero...

—Entonces siéntate y deja de armar escándalo —lo interrumpió—. Estás molestando a los demás pasajeros.

Lukas miró a su alrededor. Efectivamente, varias personas los observaban con curiosidad.

Suspiró frustrado.

—Bien. Me sentaré aquí. Pero que conste que lo hago bajo protesta.

—Anotado —dijo ella sin levantar la vista de su libro.

Lukas se dejó caer en el asiento, furioso. Sacó su teléfono y empezó a teclear agresivamente.

—¿Qué haces? ¿Puedes poner eso en silencio? Soy sensible al ruido —protestó la mujer.

—¿Sensible al ruido? —Lukas soltó una carcajada sarcástica—. ¿Y qué más? ¿También eres alérgica al oxígeno?

La mujer cerró su libro de golpe.

—Muy gracioso. ¿Siempre eres así de encantador con los desconocidos?

—Solo con los que me roban el asiento —replicó Lukas, sin apartar la vista de su teléfono.

—No te robé nada. Simplemente aproveché una oportunidad.

—Llámalo como quieras. Sigue siendo de mala educación.

La mujer se quitó las gafas de sol, revelando unos intensos ojos color miel, que le recordaron otros.

—¿Quieres hablar de educación? Tú eres el que está haciendo berrinche por un simple asiento.

Lukas la miró, sorprendido por la intensidad de su mirada, respiró hondo, contando hasta diez mentalmente.

—Eres increíble, ¿lo sabías?

—Gracias, me lo dicen a menudo.

Él sacudió la cabeza, exasperado.

—No era un cumplido.

—Oh, ¿no? Qué lástima —dijo ella, volviendo a su libro.

Lukas se quedó en silencio, el avión despegó, y luego de media hora, la azafata pasó ofreciendo bebidas.

—¿Desea algo de beber, señor? —preguntó amablemente.

—Un whisky doble, por favor —respondió Lukas.

La mujer de rojo levantó una ceja.

—¿No es un poco temprano para beber?

Lukas la fulminó con la mirada, pero no dijo nada.

Rato después, no pudo evitarlo y fijó su mirada en el perfil de la mujer, pese a su voluntad lo tenía embobado. Su cabello castaño enmarcaba su rostro, sus labios rojos curvados en una sonrisa desafiante. Apartó la vista, frustrado.

—¿Podrías dejar de mirarme? —me vas a desgastar.

—No te estaba mirando —mintió Lukas. —Solo pensaba en lo irritante que eres, me recuerdas a alguien.

—¿A alguien qué amas con locura? —inquirió alzando las cejas.

—Pues no, todo lo contrario.

Pronto llegaron, en el aeropuerto, Lukas caminó rápidamente hacia la salida. Vio un taxi libre y levantó la mano.

De repente, la mujer de rojo apareció y se metió al taxi.

—¡¿Qué carajos haces?! ¡Es mi taxi! —gritó Lukas.

La chica sonrió burlesca.

—Lo era.

El taxi arrancó, dejando a Lukas furioso en la acera.

—¡Maldit4 sea! —pensó. —¿Cómo puede ser tan irritante y atractiva a la vez?

Lukas tomó otro taxi. Llegó a casa de su familia y tocó el timbre.

La puerta se abrió.

—¡Tú! —exclamó Lukas, boquiabierto cuando vio que allí estaba la mujer de rojo y de pronto todo encajó.
