"How long have you been waiting out here?" I ask.

"About an hour." He straightens up, but doesn't move closer. "I figured she'd want to explain things. Clean up the family mess."

"She did."

"And?"

I look at him standing there in the glow of the restaurant's outdoor lights. He's wearing jeans and...
