Chapter 94

Eric’s POV

I haven’t felt this good in years. Sure, there’s some guilt about wrecking these poor bystanders cars-actually no there’s not. Not when Renees life is on the line.

The angry mob is far behind us now, so Andrew and I jump off the hoods and bob and weave between the cars sitting idle in traffic. Every once in a while I catch a glimpse of some poor suckers expression of horror and I suppress a laugh.

I slow down so Andrew can catch up with me. He looks as good as I feel. Our breathing is heavy and in sync, our fur is blown back, and blood bumps through our veins. I could go another twenty miles. And in all fairness, we might just have to.

We may have lost the first crowd but I have a feeling angry investors are lurking everywhere in this city.

“That was fun,” Andrew says. “Been a awhile since we’ve done something like that,”

“Too long,” I agree, but mostly that’s because everyone knows not to mess with us.

Just then my phone rings and I answer the call before I see who it is. “Renee,” is the first word out of my mouth.

“How cute,” I hear Mark say and I snap my mouth shut. I should’ve known it would be him.

“If you laid a single finger on her, I swear-” I growl but mark cuts me off before I can deliver my great.

“I haven’t touched her, or my grandson,” Mark says. So he knows. My blood boils at the thought that Mark believes he has some intel that I wouldn’t want him knowing. He’s waiting for a reaction, but I won’t give him on. “Your pretty ex girlfriend on the other hand,” Mark chuckles.

My body lashes in reaction, spinning on my heels. I’m facing the mess Andrew and I made trailing behind us. Cars with their hoods dented, broken glass scattered and glowing in the afternoon sun like embers of fire.

“Where are you?” I yell into the phone. “I have the money. Let’s make a deal,”

“Yes, I see the news. You’ve made quite a mess,” Mark says like he’s somewhat impressed. I look at Andrew expecting him to be fully focused on me, but he’s staring straight ahead. He’s squinting and I follow his gaze.

There’s movement. At first I can’t make out what he’s seeing, but a second later I do. It’s the mob. And they’re coming at us fast.

“We gotta go,” Andrew says. I bring the phone away from my ear.

“Not until he tells me where he is,” I say. Andrew looks at me like I’m crazy.

“You realize there’s at least a hundred people and wolves coming at us,” Andrew says as if I can’t hear the stomping of their feet or feel the rumble of their weight coming at us. I ignore him. Staring the obvious isn’t going to help us.

“So you know I’m serious then,” I tell Mark hoping he mistakes my hurriedness for agitation.

“I give you the coordinates, you show up alone. You give me the cash and the passwords to the rest of your money,” Mark says.

“Dude,” Andrew says. I glance back at the lane of traffic and can distinctly make out the angry faces coming right at us. Fast.

“And you release Renee, unharmed,” I say.

“And you join my pack,” Mark says. I freeze at that.

Just then a loud howl bellows from behind us. Were out of time. “Fine,” I spit. “Text me the address,” I and the call and duck just in time before someone’s fist makes contact with my head.

I toss the sack of cash and watch as it slides under a black Mazda, just before someone’s head rams into my gut.

I’m knocked of my feet but quickly regain composure. I try to look for Andrew and spot him just before narrowly dodging a punch. Everything is happening to fast I can barely make out any features if whoever the hell it is that I’m fighting.

I just punch back and make contact with some body part that makes a sickening crack. My knuckles throb but I shake it out.

I grab the next body darting my way and slam them onto the pavement.

“Keep moving!” Andrew yells and I can tell he’s somewhere behind me, moving further away from the city.

Adjust the chaos I hear my phone long and know that just be the address.

Another blur of a person hurdles themselves at me and I move so they slam into a parked truck. I make my way towards the Mazda, someone jumps in my way.

“You ruined my life’s savings, so now I’m going to ruin your life,” he snarls at me.

“You’ll get your money back,” I tell this man who looks to he about my age and height, though slightly leaner.

I make the mistake of adverting my gaze. In that split second, the wind gets knocked out of me and before I know it I’m pinned to the ground. Another flash of pain blossoms across my cheek before I get my bearings.

I see a right hook about to be hurled at me, but I grab his fist and squeeze. His eyes bulge in pain and I know I’ve broken his fingers. I whip his arm to the left, and he goes flying with it. I roll over and snatch the sack of millions from under the car. Just as someone bites into my ankle.

My Achilles burns. I don’t have to look to know that I’m bleeding. I kick back hard, but I don’t make contact with anything.

I roll to my back and see another larger man down by my feet quickly making his way to grab my neck. I throw my legs back bringing him with me, except I flip back onto my feet and he’s Theon on top of the Mazda. The alarm goes off.

I snatch the bag and run.

I get a whiff of Andrew’s scent and catch up with him. “You get the address?” Andrew asks as though we aren’t running for our lives. That’s one of the reasons I chose him as a beta, his physical fitness is unmatched.

As we run I manage to slide out my phone and put the coordinates in my maps, then I feel my arm get suddenly lighter. I skid to a stop. Andrew dashes ahead suddenly stops when he see I’m not next to him.

I look back and spot the bag just in time to see it get stomped on.

“Forget it!” Andrew yells, but I don’t move. I can’t. That money is what stands between me and Renee being released unharmed.

The bag continues to get stepped on and ripped. Money spills out of the bag. Wads of cash rolled up m causing people to halt in their tracks and fall to their knees.

Those behind them trip over the ones on the ground and pretty soon a hefty dog pile begins to form. More and more people see the cash that is now broken free of their hands and flying around the air circulating in whatever way the wind is blowing.

At least Andrew and I are no longer the center of attention, but I keep watching as people grab for my money. My hands ball into fists. I’m about to fight every last one of them when I feel a hard yank on my shoulder.

“Let it go,” Andrew says with more weight this time. He’s right. Renee is waiting for me. I don’t need the money. I don’t need to fight these people.

I can take my father on by myself and whoever else he has there. Cash or no cash, I’m getting Renee home.
