Chapter 64
3(rd) Person POV
Sierra screams as soon as they get into the former Beta’s house.
“Honey! Calm down!” Her mother shouts, worried.
“CALM DOWN!?” Sierra shrieks, picking up the closest object and flinging it across the room. The vase shatters against the wall, glass flying everywhere. “That stupid bitch! Why can’t she go back to the hellhole she climbed out of or jump off a fucking cliff!”
Sierra grabs the lamp off the living room table and chunks it as hard as she can. It flies through the air, hits the window, and smashes through the glass.
“She is ruining everything!” Her anger rises with every moment, and all she can think about is destroying everything near her.
Next, she slams her foot into the side of the rocking chair, ramming it into the wall.
“Sierra, stop! You’ll ruin the house!” Henry demands, grabbing his daughter by the arm. She shakes him off easily.
“I don’t fucking care!” She snarls, whirling on him. “Why couldn’t you get rid of her? I thought you loved me!”
“Sierra, I do love you—”
“Stop!” She growls, her anger rising and pushing her wolf to the surface. “I don’t want to hear it!”
Then, before they could say anything else, Sierra’s wolf bursts out of her. She lands on all four paws and runs up the stairs to her room.
“Sierra!” They call after her, running when they hear a series of crashes. When they reach her room, it’s torn apart. Her bedding is shredded, the mirror is shattered, the doors have been torn off the walls, and she’s tearing into her shelves.
She attacks the stuffed bear on the floor, ripping its head off with her teeth. She wishes the stuffed animal was Harper, envisioning the other girl dying beneath Sierra’s paw. It would be so satisfying.
It’s then only thing she thinks about as she rips into every single belonging in her room.
“Don’t worry,” Henry says, looking down at his daughter. “I’ll have everything replaced.”
“You’d better,” Sierra hisses. “This is your fault. If you’d gotten rid of her permanently, this wouldn’t be happening.”
Sierra then takes her mother’s hand and leads her to their makeshift lab. “I need to strengthen my bond with Lucas before it’s too late.”
If the fake bond is failing, all she needs to do is renew it until they complete the mating. Once they complete the bond by marking each other, Lucas won’t be able to reject her even if he wants to.
This time, while mixing the potion, she adds more of her blood for a better connection. After she adds more of Lucas’s hair, Sierra stirs the concoction then drains it into a vile. Already, she can feel her energy waning, but it’ll be worth it.
Not only will this cement her place as Luna, but it will hurt Harper in the process.
Nora’s POV
The family sits around the living room. Mom, Dad, Brandon, Logan, and me. And it’s silent as the dead in here.
Mom and Dad don’t look happy, their frowns matching as they glare at the air.
Brandon looks like he’s thinking hard about something by the distant glint in his eyes.
Logan… well, he’s brooding. His expression is a mixture of anger and confusion.
Like the rest of us, he saw the video of his mate and our Alpha kissing. He hasn’t said anything since he and Harper came back from cleaning up, other than to tell her she should go home. I also haven’t heard from Harper.
She avoided my gaze when she walked away, so I couldn’t get her attention. I want to text her, but I don’t know what to say. Do I take Logan’s side or Harper’s side?
They’re supposed to be mates, so why was she with Alpha Lucas?
So many questions run through my mind, but I don’t dare to voice them.
“What is your relationship with Harper like?” My father asks, aiming his question at Logan. “Are things not going well in your relationship?”
“Things are a bit tense, but we’re working on it,” Logan says. “Don’t worry about it.”
My mother leans forward, stunned, “Don’t worry about it? The entire pack just watched your mate kiss the Alpha!”
Logan looks around at me, then Brandon, then at my parents before saying, “I’m handling it.”
Then, he stands and leaves the room. Before my father can stand, Brandon gets to his feet and tells us he’ll talk to Logan. Logan has always been more closed off than the rest of us, but somehow, Brandon can always get to him.
I don’t blame him for leaving, though. He probably wants time and space to think. I know I would if I saw my mate kiss someone else. Not that I have a mate.
“Do you think there’s something more going on?” I ask, looking at my parents. They’ve been mated for what seems like forever, so if anyone has insights, it could be them.
“Like what?” My mother snips. “That girl is clearly disloyal. It’s no wonder her own father kicked her out of the pack.”
My irritation spikes at the comment, and I shake my head, “I know Harper, Mom, and she’s not the kind of person who would betray her mate. I’ve seen Harper and Logan interact with each other, and I’ve also seen how Alpha Lucas and Sierra interact with each other. I think there’s something strange about both couples.”
“How do you mean?” My father asks, leaning forward to rest his forearms on his knees. He gives me his full attention, ever the mediator ready to listen.
I smile.
“Alpha Lucas is always so distant with Sierra that it’s almost like he doesn’t have any feelings for her. If they truly are mates, he wouldn’t be able to stay away, right?” I ask. My father nods, and I continue, “I’ve seen the same thing happen with Logan and Harper. Sometimes they act like they like each other, but other times, I’ll catch Logan staring at Sierra like he wants her. I didn’t say anything because it wasn’t my place, but now…”
I’ve caught Logan staring after Sierra many times, even before Harper came back.
“I might have seen something like this before,” my father says, and I gasp, moving to sit beside him.
“Really? When? Where? Did you—”
“Woah, little wolf. Let me explain,” he says, patting my knee. “When I was Gamma, years ago, I met Harper’s mother. She was a witch who had the ability to heal and forge and break bonds between creatures or people.”
I lean in, “Like fake mating bonds?”
He nods. “Yes, exactly. There was a time that she was asked to break a mating bond a female wolf who had been assaulted and forced into mating bond.”
I gasp. The thought of someone forcing a mate bond turning my stomach sour.
“There were also times where she helped wolves who lost their true mates to form a bond with someone they fell in love with,” he says, squeezing my knee gently to comfort me. “I think I might still have the written spells that she gave us before she left. Let’s go to my office and see if we can’t find it.”
“I’m all in!” I exclaim, jumping to my feet. I can’t imagine Alpha Lucas would spell someone with a fake bond, but Sierra on the other hand… I could definitely see that gold-digger forcing a fake bond.
And if that’s the case, what else has she done that she shouldn’t be doing?
I follow my father to his office and watch as he sifts through folder after folder. I begin looking through folders that he passes over to me, but after a while, he spins around.
“Found it. This is the only copy I have, but it instructs you on how to break fake bonds.”
Bingo. Sierra, you better watch your back.
