Chapter 13

Sebastian's POV

Dammit William and his stupid parties. God, was there actually a reason to celebrate? It’s just a room. It means nothing to me.

And here I am, watching Evelyn act like a jackass in front of me. Does she really think she’s finding a way to spite me?

Why are all these tools swarming around her like flies? Does she not realize how much better she is? She’s not some loose cannon. That’s not who Evelyn is.

God, why the hell does it matter? Why every goddamn time I try to reason with her, she pushes me away like I’m the bad guy? I tried to warn her, be on her side with these pieces of filth, yet she was so goddamn ungrateful for my help!

I watch her now as she chats with these nothing’s. Nothing men. They’ll never know what a night with her is truly like. They’ll never feel that tightening in their throats or the urge to always hear her voice.

Because her voice is like watching a fog lift from the field, the lights perfectly illuminating the field before you. It’s the way the car is a part of you, and how every single right choice is a reward.

When did I turn into some sap?

“Hey there,” a voice distracts me. A figure blocks my view of Evelyn, and Isabella appears before me with a smile. “Been a while.”

I nod, that lump in my throat returning for a whole different reason.

“Oh, come on, Sebastian. Haven’t you missed me, even a little?” Her dark eyes blink innocently, but even her beauty queen looks can’t stop the anger growing inside of me.

“I didn’t invite you; you know that.”

She smiles those perfectly white teeth. “I know. But, if I want to see you, I have my way. You know that. And with our past chemistry, you know I’m right. Whether it’s in or out of the bedroom.”

I roll my eyes at this declaration. Sure, Isabella is smoking hot. But she made her bed, and she can lie in it without me. I search for Evelyn again over her shoulder, no longer giving a damn what she’s saying.

A minute goes by before I hear her tutting her tongue. “Oh, Sebastian. You know that Jacob is still interested in your stepsister, right? He’s made it perfectly clear he wants her.”

Her words burn like fire as I clench my fists by my sides. To think that piece of shit believes he has any chance in hell with Evelyn makes my blood boil. But he’s not the only one right now.

With my patience completely lost, I glare at Isabella again. “Let me just remind you why we broke up. You, not anyone else, you used my underground races to place bets. You tricked me into a fake race just for some money. You want to sit here and try convincing me of your feelings when all I remember is your betrayal.”

I lean forward so she doesn’t miss a beat. “I have been more than lenient with you, Isabella. Now do me a favor and listen. I’m warning you to stay out of my sight from now on. Don’t talk to me, flirt with me, or pretend you’re innocent. I’m done.”

I push past the woman to head across the room, but that’s when I see Evelyn dancing amidst the crowd. And it’s an incredibly provocative dance. Goddammit. This isn’t going to work.

I turn the music off, and I point to the front door. Although I’m parched from her dance moves, I manage to grumble out a few words to the crowd. “Out! Now! Bye!”

As I’m storming back to my room, William stops me. “Dude, what the hell?”

“Party’s over, Will. Goodnight.”

After a cold shower, I exit the tub and start drying off my hair. I haven’t been able to calm myself, and my molars are starting to kill me from all the grinding they’re doing.

God, even my teeth are getting more action than I am.

My door swings open suddenly, and I lift my head to see a stunned Evelyn standing there. I sneer in her direction, waiting for her to say whatever it is she wants.

But she doesn’t.

“What the fuck are you doing in here?”

She doesn’t answer. Instead, to my shock, she lunges forward and her hands begin to roam over my muscles. Intriguing, but I can tell a mile away how drunk she clearly is.

I let out a low growl, annoyed with this woman. This is getting on my nerves.

I pick her up, but then, something else happens.

Evelyn holds my face, bringing her’s closer to mine. “You’re so handsome. God, it’s crazy to me. If you weren’t this fucking hot, I wouldn’t be making all these damn mistakes.”

That last sentence piques my interest. Hmm, interesting. A drunk Evelyn might be handsy, but she’s also quite captivating. Maybe this doesn’t have to be all for not.

I don’t stop Evelyn from doing what she wants. Instead, I walk her back into my room. She keeps babbling on as she touches different parts of my chest, my hair, my neck. It’s kind of hot, even if she is drunk.

“You know how hard it is to watch you just be so easy and smooth with everyone around you? I don’t get it, how you slip into this cool guy persona.”

Surprising me with her strength, she pushes me onto my bed, and I marvel at her once again. That floral outfit seems as though it dances across her skin, and her hair—no longer in the bun on her head, but instead a sloppy ponytail—reminds me of our night together.

Pulling, tugging, and soft between my fingertips.

I want her to touch me right now, but as much as I do, I also can’t help but remember how drunk she is. Is this considered assault if I do this while she can’t consent?

I don’t need that fucking up my life any more than I need Evelyn raking me across every goddamn coal.

She brings herself down to my eye level, and my heart rapidly slams in my chest. One kiss? Is that too much to ask?

Then, that’s what happens. Her warm lips crash into mine, sucking in air as she shoves her tongue into my mouth. Her moans of pleasure send a shock through my system.

She doesn’t know her own strength. And evidently, I don’t know mine.

The kiss doesn’t last too long, and as she pulls away to look at me, smiling and quietly laughing, I come up with an idea. I pull out my phone as I flip her onto the bed, keeping her from walking away.

I go into my voice notes, and I tap the record button.

“Evelyn, I need to ask you something.”

“Okay,” she purrs.

“Do you really want me? And give me a verbal yes or no because I want to know you mean it.”

She nods her head, looking dreamy as she does. “Yes.”

“Okay. You owe me three promises then, are you able to do that?”

Another nod from her. “Three promises, okay.” She slurs this sentence, but I don’t stop.

“The first condition is that you absolutely, under no circumstances, cannot date any of those other guys. You got it?”

“Yes, no dating,” she nods enthusiastically. “Got it.”

Satisfied with her response, I slide my phone away. “I’ll think of the other conditions later, okay? I’ll let you know.”

I lean for her lips again when her phone starts to ring with a video call.

It’s Madelyn.

Shit, shit, shit!

I try to grab Evelyn’s phone from her grip, but I’m too slow. She answers the call with her mother.

“Oh no, you don’t,” I think to myself, quickly blocking out the camera from seeing anything.

“Eve? What’s going on? What are you doing? Why is it so dark where you are, are you okay?”
