เธอยิ้มอีกครั้งแล้วชี้บอกว่าให้วางกล่องไว้ตรงไหน ห้องของเธออยู่ติดกับห้องฉันเลย ตอนนี้ฉันนึกขึ้นมาได้ว่าแม่เคยพูดถึงเพื่อนบ้านคนใหม่ แต่ฉันไม่ได้ใส่ใจฟังเท่าไหร่
“อยากดื่มอะไรหน่อยไหมคะ” เธอถามหลังจากเราวางกล่องลงแล้ว

ฉันคงจะเผลอจ้องนานไปหน่อย เพราะเธอถึงกับต้องกระแอมเบาๆ เพื่อเรียกสติฉันกลับมา
“ข-ขอโทษค่ะ” ฉันพูดตะกุกตะกัก “สงสัยแม่จะลืมสอนว่าการจ้องคนอื่นมันเสียมารยาท” ฉันเป็นบ้าอะไรของฉันเนี่ย?
เธอหัวเราะออกมา... และเสียงหัวเราะของเธอก็ไพเราะราวกับเสียงดนตรี
“ฉันชอบห้องคุณจัง” ฉันพูดพยายามเปลี่ยนเรื่อง “ดูดีมากเลยสำหรับคนที่เพิ่งย้ายเข้ามา”
เธอยิ้ม “พี่สาวฉันช่วยแต่งให้น่ะค่ะ”

เดี๋ยวนะ... อะไรนะ?
เธอคงเห็นสีหน้าตกใจของฉัน เลยรีบพูดเสริมว่า “ถ้าคุณอยากมาน่ะค่ะ คือ... ยังไงเราก็เป็นเพื่อนบ้านกันแล้วนี่นา”
“ฉันก็อยากมาสิ เอ็ม... ฉันเรียกคุณว่าเอ็มได้ไหม”
“ได้สิคะ เพื่อนๆ ฉันก็เรียกแบบนั้น” เธอบอกพร้อมกับรอยยิ้มอีกครั้ง
“ไปนะ เอ็ม”
