Night Of Deception

My heart pounded as my fingers slid through the screen, never for once did I imagine my evening would go down so horribly, and tensed, I looked at his face and he was slowly losing life with each minute that ran by, my pulse quickened as my call was answered.

"Please help, I have a wounded man, he's dying!" I screamed with my salty tears streaming right into my mouth. A police car showed up soon enough with two officers pointing their guns at me until they got closer.

"We need an ambulance here!" one of the officers radioed back.

In mere minutes, they arrived and I watched my savior being wheeled in, I couldn't bear the guilt, I followed them and on arriving at the hospital, I was stopped by the nurses as they rushed him directly to the theater. Each minute, I said a prayer in my heart hoping that he survived, my heart couldn't take more guilt and grief. Hours went by but I waited, my body itching to see the man who saved my life, my hands were still covered in blood with my gown all messed up.

As soon as I saw the nurses, I dashed at them with adrenaline filling my heart, they could see the look of desperation and fear written on my face.

"You can see him now ma'am" the nurse could hardly finish her statement before I dashed into his ward and all this man had on his face was a smile like someone high on drugs. I was speechless for seconds, the reality of everything that happened still hitting me hard, I held his hand and pressed a tender kiss unconsciously.

"You could have gotten yourself killed and you barely know me!" I scolded him in rage as I felt a burning sensation right under my skin.

"I think the word you meant to say is thank you for saving my life tonight" he whispered weakly, he groaned the minute he tried to move, and I found myself not feeling sorry for his pain.

"How did you know my name?, why did you rush to save me?, Why did you risk your life like a fool and why were you walking around at the time I was attacked?, the cops are waiting to have your statement!" I asked with anxiety eating my soul away.

Despite the storm that raged within me, he didn't react, he had a calm demeanor as he stared into my eyes with a smile on his lips, who is this man for goodness sake?.

"When I was a kid, my mother and I were attacked by thugs, I watched them beat and molest her, they robbed us before ending her life with a gunshot, seeing you when I did, I know I couldn't turn away. I couldn't save my mother..." he paused, his breath hung between words with a smile too contagious.

"But I saved you and I'm happy I did, the name is Conrad by the way and if anything, I'm pleased to meet the famous Arabella" he ended his speech elegantly.

"Thank you, Conrad" I finally summoned the guts to appreciate.

"You're welcome, if only we had met under a romantic circumstance" he revealed with a sinister smile.

I returned the smile before the words came out from my lips, "No way in hell Mr Conrad, try harder next time". He watched me leave the room with a smile of satisfaction...

I woke up in shock with sweat on my forehead from what appeared to be a very long dream, but this wasn't any dream at all, it was a flashback of how it all started, how I met the man who I now call my husband, one murderous night that led to the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I turned around but couldn't find my husband in bed, I walked out but didn't take two steps before I found my son, Michael playing with my gold watch.

"Bring that watch here now!" My voice startled him but he quickly ran across the room with a smile on his playful lips.

"Come get it mom" he responded with a smile as I walked across to take it, my eyes caught sight of my family picture, one last picture I had with both of them before they left my life in the blink of an eye.

Tears gathered in my eyes as I looked away, I had the watch customized with their picture so I would never forget them no matter how long it had been.

"I won't let you get married to that man, he's your enemy and he will destroy you!" I could still remember my father's harsh words as they echoed in my mind.

"He's deceiving you!, I can't let you fall into the abyss, Conrad or whatever his bastard name is called, he will never take the role of a husband in your life, not while I'm alive at least!. I won't let you bring shame to my name and destroy all that I and your mother have suffered to build, I know what's best for you my dear Arabella" Those were the last words he voiced out to me before I left his house.

I was madly in love with Conrad and my father couldn't accept the harsh reality, he wanted my relationship to end in a second, trying all the ways he could but in the end. The man I called Papa, gave up the fight in death. More tears trickled down my cheeks as I kissed the watch, we fought many times but my heart still pounded for him.

"I still love you dad, I love you mom" I whispered silently.

My son's tender touch on my legs startled me at once as I quickly wiped my tears.

"Why are you crying mom?" his innocent question sent a smile to my worried face, I loved my son's caring nature, he's a true replica of my mother and my husband, Conrad, from his hazel eyes to his charming looks.

"Everything is fine, where's your father?"

"I don't know, I saw him by the hotel's pool" he answered innocently, I pressed a heartwarming kiss on his forehead before I walked out.

Over the years, I grew to love Conrad more than anything, he became my beacon of hope but he slowly changed from a man I knew to a man whom I barely understood. My head was buried in deep thoughts while walking through the hallway but as I took another step further, I could hear a voice that sounded like my husband. I carefully traced the source, only to see a room with the number "101", its door half closed as the occupants laughed.

"I fooled her too well, I came into her life like a snake and she's just too stupid to realize it, I staged the robbery attack that night. I played the superhero and won her over in a heartbeat, she was a piece of cake" the voice revealed and I gasped in shock, my anxiety level hit the roof as confusion slowly came down on me.

"You're so bad" a feminine voice came from the room and I could hear the tender press of their lips.

"Not even her father could stop me, the Oldman took his defeat to his grave while I rode his daughter like my horse, one night changed everything..."

Goosebumps appeared on my skin as I gasped and accidentally touched the doorknob, they knew of my presence in an instant.

"Who's there!" a thunderous voice echoed, I had mere seconds to either face reality or escape as my pulse roared.
