Chapter 2 The York Family is a Top Noble Family

Suddenly, someone rang the doorbell outside.

"Steven, someone's at the door. I'll get it." Nora turned and went out.

The front door opened.

Outside stood an elegantly dressed elderly woman, supported by a maid in a black dress. The two were looking around.

When Nora opened the door, the old woman's eyes settled on her, as if she'd found a treasure.

"Hello, Madam. Who are you looking for?" Nora asked politely.

"You must be Nora, right?" The old woman smiled kindly.

So this was the wife Steven had secretly married?

The old woman liked her at first sight!

"Yes, and you are?" Nora looked confused.

"I'm Steven's grandmother, Elizabeth York!" Elizabeth said with a kind face.

Nora was shocked. "You're Steven's grandmother?"

This was the first time Nora had met Steven's family. He'd never mentioned them, and Nora had never asked. They were married, but knew nothing about each other.

"You should call me Grandma." Elizabeth walked in, supported by her maid Lally Rivera.

"Grandma!"

Nora called out, her smile as sweet as honey.

"Good!" Elizabeth smiled happily. She entered the house and saw the table set with a nice breakfast. She turned to Nora and asked, "Did you make this?"

"Yes!" Nora liked making her own breakfast. "Food from outside isn't very clean. I prefer cooking myself."

Nora said sweetly, inviting Elizabeth to sit down. "Grandma, have you had breakfast yet? If not, please stay and eat with us. There's milk in the kitchen. Let me get you some."

"Sounds good." Elizabeth sat down happily. Since she was already here, she might as well try Nora's cooking!

Nora went to get the milk and brought out the utensils.

Elizabeth watched her bustle about and said to Lally beside her, "She's skillful and likes to cook, and she's polite too. I think her is great. Steven has good taste."

Lally smiled along. "Yes!"

"Grandma! Here's your milk. Be careful, it's hot." Nora handed it over.

Elizabeth took a sip, and her eyes lit up immediately. "This is delicious! Nora, how did you make this milk?"

Elizabeth's words made Nora blush. "Grandma, I just added a little honey to the milk. It's healthy and tasty."

"The ratio is perfect. It's really good!" Elizabeth was very satisfied and happily ate breakfast with her.

Elizabeth was pleased. She tried all the dishes on the table—they were all delicious!

Steven had found a treasure!

Just then, Steven, who'd been sleeping groggily in bed, sensed something was wrong.

Why were there voices talking outside?

Who had come?

Steven listened carefully for a few sentences.

It was Elizabeth's voice!

Steven seemed to realize something and sat up, a trace of annoyance in his handsome features.

Walking to the living room, he noticed he was wearing an unfamiliar set of loungewear.

Nora must have bought it for him and changed him into it!

Steven glanced at it. The fabric was cheap—no more than a hundred dollars for the set.

Steven had never worn such cheap clothes before. He looked a bit disgusted as he walked to the dining room. "Grandma."

Seeing Steven standing before her with a cold face, Elizabeth smiled broadly and said cheerfully, "I came to see my granddaughter-in-law!"

Hearing this title, Nora felt shy and stole a glance at Steven.

Steven didn't even look at her.

Nora felt a bit disappointed.

She knew Steven must have been acting strange yesterday. How could he possibly be that affectionate with her?

Sure enough, he woke up all cold and distant!

"How could you come over without my permission?" Steven frowned, clearly displeased.

Elizabeth said calmly, "What? My grandson's been married for months, and I can't even come see?"

Steven pressed his lips into a thin line.

Seeing the atmosphere getting tense, Nora quickly stood up to smooth things over. "No, Grandma, Steven and I are both happy to have you here!"

"Exactly! Nora's the one who cares about me!" Elizabeth held Nora's hand as she spoke.

Nora felt a bit embarrassed.

Though this was her first time meeting Elizabeth, she could tell Elizabeth really liked her!

Getting approval from family made Nora very happy. She glanced at Steven.

Steven, wearing the loungewear she'd bought, looked like a painting with his features—truly a man handsome enough to charm anyone!

"Steven, go wash your face and brush your teeth. Grandma's here, so let's eat with her." Nora smiled warmly, enthusiastically welcoming Elizabeth.

"No time." Steven responded coldly, then said to Elizabeth, "Come with me for a moment."

"Fine!"

Elizabeth reluctantly followed him.

Steven wanted to take Elizabeth to the study, but she turned into the master bedroom instead, saying excitedly, "Let me see your two's bedroom!"

She went right in before Steven could stop her.

Then Elizabeth discovered they slept in separate rooms!

Steven's room had none of Nora's things.

Elizabeth frowned and ran to the guest bedroom next door.

The guest bedroom had a completely different, fresh style from the master bedroom's cold one. The bedding was light blue, the blanket neatly made.

Nora was clearly someone who liked things neat.

Nora had forgotten to close the closet door that morning. Elizabeth glanced inside—there were hardly any clothes. Elizabeth counted with her fingers—just a few outfits!

A light blue shirt hung to the side.

"Is this yours?" Elizabeth asked Steven, though she remembered Steven never wore blue.

Steven's face was ice-cold. "No."

It must belong to one of Nora's ex-boyfriends. It was already hanging in the closet when she moved in. The first time Steven saw it, he found it irritating.

Still keeping her ex-boyfriend's things after getting married—how fickle!

"You two sleep in separate rooms?" Elizabeth continued asking.

"Yes." Steven didn't hide it from her. "No feelings, so we can't sleep together."

Elizabeth frowned, her eyes continuing to scan the guest bedroom. On Nora's vanity, there were only two pitiful bottles of skincare products.

Clearly, Nora's family wasn't well-off.

"Looks like Nora's had a hard life." Elizabeth placed her hands in front of her and sighed. "But since you've already married her, why don't you buy her some things?"

Now that she was married into the family, did those small expenses really matter?

The York family was one of the wealthiest families in South City.

Steven's handsome face showed displeasure. "I haven't told her my real identity."
