Chapter 3
The restaurant manager rushed over with a very unpleasant expression on his face.
"Sir, if you can't pay the bill, we'll have no choice but to call the police."
Matthew completely panicked. He looked at Emily for help.
But Emily took a step back, distancing herself from the situation.
"Matthew, I... I didn't bring my wallet."
That was what she said, but her hands were clutching her Hermès bag tightly.
Matthew was furious but didn't dare get angry at her. He could only take all his anger out on me.
"Mia! This is all your fault! You've completely humiliated me today!"
He lowered his voice and threatened me in my ear.
"You'd better figure something out right now! Or you'll regret it!"
I looked at his twisted face and felt he was completely unfamiliar to me.
I took out my phone, ignored him, and dialed a number.
The call was answered quickly, and a respectful male voice came through.
"Miss Wilson."
"Aiden, send a car to pick me up at Lunar Dining."
"Yes, Miss Wilson."
After hanging up, I said to the manager, "Please wait a moment. My family will be here shortly to settle the bill."
The manager looked at me skeptically but still nodded.
Matthew was also stunned.
"Your family? Aren't you an orphan?"
I didn't answer him, just walked to the side and waited quietly.
He followed me, grabbed my arm, and kept pressing.
"Mia, what the hell are you playing at? Where did this family come from? Are you doing something shady behind my back?"
I shook off his hand and looked at him coldly.
"Matthew, we're done."
He acted like he'd heard a joke.
"Done? What do you mean by we're done? Mia, can you even survive without me?"
"You have no degree, no background. Who else would want you besides me?"
"Stop making a scene. Just fix this mess, and I'll apologize when we get home, okay?"
He thought I was just throwing a tantrum.
Soon, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of the restaurant.
A middle-aged man in a black suit got out, followed by two bodyguards.
The man walked quickly up to me and bowed respectfully.
"Miss Wilson, I apologize for being late."
He was my family's butler, Aiden.
Everyone in the restaurant was shocked, including Matthew.
Aiden didn't look at anyone else. He simply took out a black card from his pocket and handed it to the manager.
"The bill, please."
Then he took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders.
"Miss Wilson, it has been a long time. Mr. Robert Wilson is waiting for you at home."
I nodded and followed Aiden to the car.
The whole time, I never looked at Matthew again.
Back at the empty rental apartment, I started packing my things.
Everything here was filled with memories of Matthew and me—sweet ones, arguments.
Now, it just made me sick.
I packed all my belongings into my suitcase. The cheap gifts he'd given me, I didn't keep a single one—I threw them all in the trash.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Matthew rushed in with red eyes.
"Mia! You need to explain yourself! Who was that person? What was that car about?"
He grabbed my wrist, his grip frighteningly tight.
"Have you been cheating on me all along? You bitch!"
I struggled to break free.
"Let go!"
"I won't! You need to explain everything to me today!"
He started going crazy, tearing through my suitcase, throwing my clothes everywhere.
"Talk! Have you been with some rich guy all along? Is that why you dared to break up with me?"
"I've been working my ass off out there for our future, and you're cheating on me?"
His words were like knives, each one cutting deep.
Just then, my phone rang.
A name flashed on the screen.
"William Brown."
Matthew snatched my phone and saw the name. His eyes instantly turned red.
"William Brown? Who is he? So that's it, Mia—you really do have another man!"
