Chapter 6

"What are you doing here! Nora has already spent five years in prison to atone for her sins. What more do you want?" Jasper stood protectively in front of Nora, glaring at James with intense anger.

"Atone?" James laughed. "How can she ever repay what she owes me? How about I kill this little bastard instead?"

Nora looked at James in terror. She knew James wasn't joking.

Frightened, she fell to her knees, begging humbly and helplessly. "James, I'll do whatever you asked me to do. Please let me go, just give me a few days, please, I'm begging you."

She just wanted to come back and spend time with Samuel.

Couldn't she even have a few days?

"Nora! Get up! He doesn't dare do anything to us." Jasper looked at Nora with heartache.

She wasn't like this before.

The old Nora was like a white rose kept in a greenhouse, but now...

"Can't do anything to you?" James laughed. "Jasper, do you know nothing about how this society works?"

With a wave of his hand, James's bodyguards rushed forward, throwing a punch at Jasper.

Jasper was tall and strong, working on construction sites all year round, so naturally he could fight.

But James had more men. Five bodyguards against him alone—he was quickly losing ground.

"Stop it, James, James please, stop hitting him." Nora knelt crying before James, begging him to stop. "I'll do whatever you want, please let Jasper go, please."

"Don't beg him!" Jasper shouted out of control, trying to save Nora, but he couldn't break free from the bodyguards. "Go ahead and beat me to death if you dare."

"I can do whatever I want to you?" James grabbed Nora's chin. "You're really pathetic."

"Don't touch my mom!" Samuel rushed forward and bit down hard on James's hand.

James's eyes darkened. Looking at this little bastard, he raised his hand to strike.

That slap didn't land on Samuel's face—it hit Nora's instead.

Nora pulled Samuel close, looking at James with both wariness and anger. "Don't touch my son."

The James of today truly disgusted her.

What disgusted her even more was that she had once loved James for many years.

Seeing Nora protecting that bastard child, James's anger intensified. "Nora, even now, you still won't tell me who that lover of yours is? The one whose bastard you're protecting so fiercely!"

James hated that Nora still refused to reveal who Samuel's father was.

Nora held Samuel tightly, both mother and son looking like cornered animals ready to bite.

Seeing Nora's silence, James grew even angrier. "Take them both back with me!"

"Nora! Samuel..."

Jasper rushed forward trying to stop them, but was knocked unconscious by a bodyguard's club.

"Jasper!" Nora cried out, trying to rush over, but was forcibly shoved into the car.

James was right—they couldn't fight against power and influence.

For the rest of their lives, they deserved to be trampled underfoot.

The car stopped in front of the Smith Villa. Nora held Samuel tightly, watching James warily. "What do you want?"

"For the next month, don't even think about going anywhere. Stay here obediently and take care of your health. After a month, you'll donate a kidney to Evelyn." James got out of the car, shaking his hand where Samuel had bitten him.

"Mr. Smith, have you noticed?" The driver got out and whispered in James's ear. "This child actually looks quite like the Smith family?"

James froze for a moment, instinctively turning back to look at Samuel, who refused to get out of the car.

His features did indeed resemble the Smith family.

But quickly, James's expression darkened again as he coldly warned the driver. "You talk too much!"

James knew very well that he had never touched Nora.

Back when he and Nora were dating, he treasured her, thinking he would never touch her until their wedding day. But she couldn't resist temptation and had already been with another man!

"Get out!" The nanny went to get Samuel out of the car, but Samuel hid inside, refusing to come out no matter what.

The nanny lost her patience and raised her hand to hit Samuel, but Samuel bit her.

"You little beast, how dare you bite me." The nanny grabbed a broom to hit Samuel.

Nora instinctively shielded Samuel in her arms. That blow landed on Nora's back—it hurt, but she was used to it.

"What's all this noise?"

On the second floor of the Smith family home, a man stood on the balcony, his voice low and deep.

The nanny turned around in fright, apologizing repeatedly. "Mr. Michael Smith, I'm sorry, I was rash. I disturbed your rest."

Michael frowned, his gaze falling on James.

"Michael, why are you back?" James's heart tightened. Michael never usually came back to this house—why was he here today?

"What? I can't come back?" Michael asked coldly.

James quickly lowered his head. "That's not what I meant."

Everyone in Emerald City knew that the Smith family wasn't one to be easily approached, and the entire Smith family was supported by Michael.

Whether in ability or family background, Michael was someone no one in Emerald City could afford to provoke.

In the car, Nora's fingers holding Samuel froze. Why did that voice sound familiar?
