Chapter 6

Harper was floored by what she heard.

"This kid's gotta go! We're heading to the clinic right now!" Aiden snatched the pregnancy report from Olivia's hand and ripped it into pieces.

His rage made Olivia feel a bit scared.

But thinking about how this child would be her only tie to this world, she mustered some courage and declared, "This is my baby, you have no right to interfere!"

The room fell into a dead silence for a few seconds before the sound of glass shattering broke it.

Aiden smashed the cup beside him and stood up abruptly. "Say that again if you dare!"

Olivia lifted her head, her right hand resting on her belly through the blanket.

Her eyes were red, and her cheeks trembled slightly with fear.

Despite this, she stared at Aiden with unwavering determination. "I said, I'm keeping this baby."

Aiden's slap sent Olivia's head to the side, leaving a bright red handprint on her face.

"Shameless!" Aiden snarled, raising his hand again.

Before his hand could fall, Olivia stepped forward.

She gripped the sheet tightly, her knuckles turning white, and her palms were sweaty.

"Say whatever you want about me."

Olivia's eyelashes fluttered, her voice trembling involuntarily, "I'm keeping this baby. He might be my only family in this world."

The word 'only' pierced Aiden and Harper like a knife.

Aiden's raised hand trembled slightly. "What did you say? Do you think your mom and I are dead to you?"

Olivia's lips curved into a smile, but there was no joy in it. "You only care about Luna. When have you ever cared about me?"

"Even now, you're still slandering Luna."

"Was it Luna who made you sleep with a man? Was it Luna who made you shamelessly get pregnant with this bastard?"

His words reminded Olivia that it was Luna who had brought her that takeout.

But now, no matter what she said, Aiden and Harper wouldn't believe her, and it would only bring her more trouble.

Olivia lowered her eyes and said, "No matter what you say, I'm keeping this baby."

"You…" Aiden was about to strike again when the hospital room door opened.

An elderly female doctor walked in with two agreements, her voice cold as she took in the scene. "This is a hospital. If anyone causes trouble, I'll call the police."

Harper tugged at Aiden's sleeve and shook her head.

Causing a scene in the hospital and getting the police involved would definitely attract media attention.

If it escalated, the Smith family would be utterly humiliated.

The doctor placed two agreements on the table: one for the risks of an abortion procedure, and one for keeping the pregnancy.

She glanced at Aiden and Harper before addressing Olivia directly:

"Given your current health, an abortion would be life-threatening."

"Whether to keep the pregnancy or not is your choice."

Hospitals were accustomed to life and death; doctors only informed patients of the consequences.

Before Olivia could touch the agreement to keep the pregnancy, Aiden snatched it and held it behind his back. "Doctor, we don't want this baby. Schedule the procedure immediately."

Olivia found it strange. Did Aiden, a seasoned businessman, not understand what the doctor had just said?

The doctor spoke before Olivia could, her tone icy. "The hospital must follow the patient's wishes in such decisions."

Aiden gritted his teeth, a vein throbbing on his forehead. "I'm her father. I make the decisions!"

He shoved the risk notification towards the doctor. "Do it now. I'll take responsibility for any risks."

The doctor ignored him and turned to Olivia. "This is your body. What do you want?"

Her calm eyes seemed to shine, making Olivia's heart tremble.

She couldn't remember the last time someone asked for her opinion.

In the Smith family, she was just a nobody.

Aiden and Harper only cared about what benefits she could bring to the family, never about her own thoughts.

"Keep." Olivia's voice was low but firm. "I'm keeping this baby."

"Olivia, you…"

The doctor interrupted Aiden's angry roar. "Alright."

She instructed a nurse to bring another agreement for Olivia, shielding her with her body until Olivia signed it. Then she left with the agreement.

In his rage, Aiden didn't try to snatch it back, glaring at Olivia with heavy breaths that sounded like an old bellows in the room.

Once the doctor and nurse left, Aiden threw the agreement papers towards the ceiling.

The papers fluttered down, one cutting Olivia's face, causing a sharp pain that made her eyes well up.

Through the blur, she saw Aiden's nearly twisted face. "Olivia, you're something else! You really are!"

In the Smith family, Aiden was like a king, never challenged.

Even trivial matters like making coffee were under his control.

He never expected Olivia to defy him like this today.

His authority was being challenged like never before.

"If you're so capable, why stay in the Smith family?"

Aiden sneered. "Why not leave and start your own life with that man?"

"I'd like to see which man would dare marry a slut like you!"

Even though she was prepared, knowing Aiden and Harper didn't love her, hearing such words from Aiden still made Olivia feel suffocated.

Her heart felt like it was being cut open, cold wind blowing inside.

"Aiden," Harper pulled him back, shaking her head.

"The child is young. She made a mistake, but we should educate her, not say such things."

She shielded Olivia with her body, giving Aiden meaningful looks.

The marriage to the Wilson family was imminent.

If Olivia didn't marry into the Wilson family, Luna would have to.

If it weren't for the two months of confinement, Olivia might have thought Harper was genuinely concerned for her.

But now…

She scoffed, "I'm just a tool for your family's alliances."

"Mr. Smith, if you really dare to kick me out, I might live another twenty years."

"You… you…" Aiden was so angry he couldn't form a complete sentence.

Olivia found it amusing and said, "Too bad, to keep your precious daughter from marrying into the Wilson family, you have to keep me in the Smith family."

Olivia asked, "Am I right, Mom?"

Harper's back stiffened, her hand slipping from Aiden's arm.

She slowly turned to face Olivia's mocking smile.

"Mom, I can tolerate Dad favoring Luna, but we're both your children. Why do you favor her so much, giving her all your love?"

Olivia's hand clenched at her side, questioning, "You give her everything she wants. She doesn't want to marry into the Wilson family, so you sacrifice me for her! Why? Is it just because I wasn't the one who fell down the stairs back then?"
