Smoke clawed through the lab, acrid and electric. Sirens wailed in fractured loops. Mara’s ears rang from the blast high, sharp, endless. She staggered upright, blinking through haze. The consoles were gone, melted down to twisted ribs of steel. Red emergency lights stuttered like broken memories.
