Chapter 8 Cleo Arrives
Hearing Mia's unhappy tone, Lyra immediately said, "I was overthinking it. How could that bitch possibly be Cynthia? Besides, when it comes to being impressive, Mia, you're number one at the hospital. Even if Cynthia did come, so what? Mia, you're beautiful, from a good family, your medical skills are top-notch, and you're going to be Joshua's wife. Who could possibly steal your spotlight?"
Lyra's flattery made Mia's expression soften considerably.
Outside the hospital room.
"Just say what you want." Ava's tone was unfriendly.
"Your mouth really needs to be taught a lesson. Would it kill you to speak nicely?"
"Speak nicely? Mr. Thomas, what counts as speaking nicely - being submissive like before, obeying your every command, or stupidly waiting for you to deal with me? Am I your employee or your slave? Why should I listen to you?"
Ava fired off questions one after another. As she spoke, her eyes grew hot. She had been too good to him before, always careful about everything, obedient in every way, never daring to talk back. The result was that he thought she was easy to bully.
Did he think she was still the old Ava, someone he could bully just because she liked him?
From now on, no way!
Joshua's dark eyes were full of anger as he stared at her intently, his gaze seeming ready to tear her apart.
Ava straightened her back, as if declaring to Joshua: I'm not afraid of you!
Joshua clenched his fists tightly, grinding his teeth, forcing words out through them: "Ava, you've got some nerve!"
Ava's body trembled slightly, her eyes cold as she watched the man slam the door and enter the hospital room.
Only after Joshua left did Ava dare to breathe a sigh of relief. Her forehead was already covered in cold sweat.
Joshua was too scary. Ava would rather never have anything to do with him again for the rest of her life.
With that thought, Ava turned to leave, but before she could take two steps, she was blocked by his assistant Samuel and some bodyguards. "...Ms. Davis, Mr. Thomas didn't say you could leave."
Ava took a deep breath to suppress the fire in her chest, then looked up at Samuel quietly.
Samuel swallowed. This Ava seemed different from before - why did her gaze look like she wanted to skin him alive?
"Samuel," Ava said flatly.
"Yes!"
"I...!" Ava took a deep breath. "Need to use the bathroom!"
Samuel paused, then immediately told the bodyguards behind him, "Escort Ms. Davis to the bathroom."
Ava was almost furious. "Escort?"
"Yes, escort." Samuel was completely serious.
To be honest, this was basically surveillance!
Ava ground her back teeth and gave him a thumbs up. "Samuel, you're something else!"
Ava stormed into the bathroom and leaned against the door somewhat dejectedly. With two bodyguards following her like tails, she had no chance of escape.
After all this time, she still didn't know how her two children were doing.
Just as Ava was at her wit's end...
"Mommy." A sweet voice whispered softly in Ava's ear.
Ava's heart jumped. "Cleo?"
"Mommy!" Cleo ran out from a bathroom stall and rushed into Ava's arms.
Ava held Cleo in disbelief, overjoyed but also anxious. "Cleo, didn't you get on the plane? How did you find this place?"
"Finn brought me here. Mommy, did you forget? The watches Finn gave us to prevent us from getting separated have a tracking system." Cleo raised her hand and shook the pink watch on her wrist.
"We used the tracking to find Daddy's house. Finn was planning how to rescue Mommy when the tracker showed you came to the hospital, so we came too."
Ava looked at the watch on her own wrist. Finn had asked her to wear it, and she'd never taken it off. She hadn't expected it to be so useful.
"Cleo, where's Finn?"
"Finn's outside. Don't worry, Mommy, we're figuring out how to rescue you. Oh, Mommy, Finn said since you haven't contacted us, your phone must have been taken away. This is a phone for you, Mommy. Make sure to hide it well."
Ava was almost moved to tears. Her two children were truly her saviors. With a phone, things would be much easier. Ava took the phone and immediately hid it.
"Thank you, baby. Cleo and Finn are my lifesavers. Now I can find my own way to escape. It's too dangerous for you here. Can you go back to Isabella first? I'll meet up with you later."
Joshua was on this floor. If he saw Finn, it would be over. He would definitely take them away. The Thomas family would never allow their descendants to be out there.
But Finn and Cleo were her life. She couldn't lose them. She couldn't let them take risks.
"But Mommy..."
Footsteps approached the door. Ava covered Cleo's little mouth, put her index finger to her lips in a shushing gesture, and alertly took Cleo into a stall.
"Mommy?"
"Shh!"
Ava lowered her voice. "Cleo, listen to me. Leave here with Finn. Give Mommy some time. I'll definitely find a way to meet up with you myself, okay?"
"I'm worried about Mommy."
Ava held Cleo in her arms. "Cleo needs to trust me."
Ava held Cleo and comforted her for a while, then reluctantly let Cleo go out to find Finn first.
Cleo was very good. Although she was reluctant and worried about Ava, she still ran out on her little legs.
Ava watched Cleo's small figure with both heartache and relief.
Then Ava came out of the bathroom as if nothing had happened. Knowing that Cleo and Finn were safe, Ava felt much more at ease. Her previously anxious mood improved, and her steps became lighter.
Ava even found the two bodyguards more pleasant to look at now. She said with a smile, "Let's go, escort me back."
The two bodyguards looked at each other.
Was Ava okay? Before going in, she looked ready to kill them with a knife, but after using the bathroom, her mood improved?
Ava walked briskly down the corridor back, even humming a little tune.
Suddenly...
"Little one, are you okay?"
That voice...
Ava froze completely!
She felt all the blood in her body flowing backward!
