Chapter 7 She is Ranked First in the Medical Field
A chill swept over her.
Ava shuddered violently as a terrifying male voice suddenly sounded behind her. To Ava, this voice was like the Grim Reaper coming to claim her life.
Ava was so scared that her hair stood on end. She didn't dare turn around, didn't want to see, didn't want to face it. Anyway, the door was right in front of her.
Without hesitation, she twisted the door open. Just as she was about to rush out, two straight figures blocked her way. Two tall bodyguards stared at her expressionlessly, blocking the doorway without budging an inch, and pulled out their guns, pointing them at her head.
Ava clenched her back teeth hard.
Was this really necessary?
Ava turned around dejectedly. Just as she was about to speak, her nose brushed against the fabric of the man's suit, carrying a faint smell of tobacco.
The man's sudden approach caught Ava off guard. Her butterfly-like lashes trembled slightly, and her whole body leaned backward. Her lower back was caught by the man's strong arm.
The man's icy voice continued, "Prison break! You really think you can run, huh?"
Ava's heart jumped. The fear of being caught red-handed while escaping swept through her entire body. Just as she looked at the man in terror, a cry came from upstairs, "Ms. Wilson has fainted!"
......
Mia was sent to the hospital. To prevent Ava from escaping again, Joshua dragged Ava along to the hospital.
In the hospital room, Mia woke up an hour later than Ava had expected.
She was now lying on the hospital bed, looking extremely weak, her watery eyes looking at Joshua pitifully and grievously.
Mia was also a doctor. The doctor who treated her at the hospital was her good friend Lyra Cole, who was now adding fuel to the fire, saying, "Mr. Thomas, how did Mia get hurt so badly? If the attacker had used a bit more force, Mia wouldn't have woken up!"
Even Ava, who was also a doctor, was stunned.
Originally, she still felt a bit guilty. After all, she had knocked Mia out to escape. Ava was willing to apologize or pay compensation. But now, that bit of guilt had completely disappeared.
Mia—Ava's impression of her was the same as five years ago: pure, weak, and fake.
She hadn't hit her that hard. Before Ava could speak, Mia spoke first.
"Ms. Davis, what deep grudge do I have with you? Why did you hit me so hard? Joshua, the back of my neck hurts so much, and my head is dizzy. I thought I was going to die."
Going to die?
Ava was the one who was really scared to death!
"You hit her?" In the hospital room, Joshua turned his head toward Ava.
"Yes, I hit her." Ava rolled her eyes, stood to the side, and admitted loudly.
As soon as Ava admitted it, Mia cried even harder, clutching her chest, her eyes red. "Ms. Davis, I have no grudge against you. Why did you treat me like this? What did I do wrong to deserve being beaten by you like this?"
Beaten?
These accusations caught Ava completely off guard.
It was Ava's fault for knocking her out to escape, but could she just speak normally? One moment she couldn't wake up, the next she was going to die, and now it's a beating?
"Apologize." Joshua said in a deep voice.
Today, Ava finally witnessed what it meant to be pitiful and delicate.
"Really good at acting." Ava muttered.
"What did you say?"
Ava glanced at him coldly and said loudly, "I said, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have hurt your lover. I shouldn't have hit her so hard. I'll be gentler next time."
"You seem very unconvinced?" Joshua stared at Ava.
"No, I'm convinced, very convinced. Even if I'm not convinced, it doesn't matter."
"It's okay, Joshua. Don't blame Ms. Davis. Actually, Ms. Davis doesn't need to apologize. I've already forgiven Ms. Davis." Mia said weakly, looking magnanimous and kind.
"She hurt you. She should apologize to you. You don't need to speak up for her."
Which ear heard her speaking up for me? Ava was almost laughing inside.
"Come out with me." Joshua said in a deep voice, his voice low and full of pressure.
Fine, let's go out. Who's afraid of who?
Joshua took a step to leave, and Ava followed closely behind.
"Joshua, I'm still feeling a bit uncomfortable. Can you stay and keep me company?"
Ava was getting annoyed.
"Where do you feel uncomfortable? Let me take a look. Joshua's not a doctor. How is staying here going to help you—can he treat your illness or what?" If it weren't for Joshua's piercing gaze that could shoot right through her, Ava really wanted to say a few more sarcastic words.
"You! You..." Mia's face turned red with anger, but she couldn't refute a single thing Ava said. She was so angry her eyes widened.
Mia watched Joshua and Ava leave, her eyes full of resentment, glaring viciously at Ava's back.
That bitch!
"Mia, that person just now was Ava. How did she come back?" Lyra, who had just spoken up for Mia, asked.
Back in medical school, Ava was recognized as the top student in the entire school—beautiful, favored by teachers, extremely talented in medicine, winner of many awards, and pursued by countless people. She was absolutely someone who made others envious, jealous, and hateful, yet impossible to surpass.
The more outstanding she was, the more people were jealous and unconvinced. Lyra and Mia were among them.
Later, in their sophomore year, when everyone thought Ava's future would be bright, she was suddenly expelled from the school. It was said that she had an affair with a teacher from the medical school and was caught in the act by the teacher's wife. To cover up the scandal, the school expelled Ava immediately.
The school suppressed the matter, and it faded away with Ava's departure, but there were always people gossiping behind her back.
After Ava left, Mia, with her pure and delicate looks and good family background, immediately stood out.
"It's her." Mia gritted her teeth hard.
When she first saw Ava, she couldn't believe it. Ava had actually come back.
For five years, she had been by Joshua's side, but Joshua had never mentioned marrying her. She knew Joshua's personality, so she didn't dare bring it up. She thought that after a few more years of staying by Joshua's side, he would marry her. But she never expected that before she could wait for that, Ava, this woman, would come back.
Like a ghost that won't go away!
"It really is her. Mia, you know, a few days ago, your cardiothoracic surgery department got a new chief doctor who studied abroad and came back. Her name is Cynthia. She ranks first in the medical world rankings and is extremely famous in Astoria. Her medical skills are legendary. Do you think it's possible that it's Ava..."
"Are you talking about the one Mr. Miller personally invited to the hospital?"
"Yes."
This news had spread throughout the hospital. Someone who could be personally invited by Joseph, promoted directly to chief at such a young age, and even given her own private office by Joseph—she must be the real deal.
And this person was very mysterious. No one in the hospital had seen her yet.
Mia laughed coldly. "Lyra, are you joking? You actually suspect that Cynthia is Ava? Are you kidding me? How could Cynthia possibly be that notorious Ava who got expelled before finishing her sophomore year?"
