Chapter 47

Gideon’s POV

I wanted to go and follow after Raven, but before I could Daphne stopped me. Her hand around my arm was like a tight rope.

“Gideon my love.” She purred as she looked at me with fake innocence and caressed my arm “Why run after her? She should know better than to seduce you. I am your Luna and mate.”

My patience ran out for her. I pried her fingers off and pushed her aside with a sharp glare. “Enough is enough Daphne,” I said with a sharp and dangerous voice. “Don’t you dare to do things like that again.”

Her painted smile faltered as he brushed past her without another word. The rejection hurt her more than she imagined, I can tell she wanted to slap me badly. Watching me leave only deepened her fury. As I walked out of the door I heard her scream angrily.

I sighed knowing this won't be the end of her evil plans, in fact he has increased Raven’s problems but this time I will make sure she is not alone this time.

I searched for Raven everywhere until I found her sitting in a peaceful quiet corner of the garden. The light of the lamp barely reached her face, but he could see the hardened and tense look on her face as she kept herself calm, not wanting to let this incident affect her. I could tell if I got close to her she was ready to walk away from me.

“Raven,” I began to speak carefully, not wanting to rush out to speak, and took a deep breath, “listen, about Daphne she did that on purpose–”

She raised her hand and shook her head to stop me from explaining. “You don’t need to explain yourself to me.” She looked at me but there was a steady yet distant look in his eyes. “I’m only your bodyguard. What you do with your personal life doesn’t concern me.”

Her words were calm yet polite but there was a deep meaning behind it. It was a reminder of the difference in social status between them so she drew a line between them which I wanted to erase badly.

I stood still, the silence between us was uncomfortable and tense but he respected her privacy and wall she built.

But at the same time I knew I had to break the walls between us and clear the misunderstanding.

I stepped closer, not willing to accept the distance she had placed between us. I looked at her calmly but there was a hint of gentleness in my eyes which he rarely showed.

“Raven..You are not just a warrior and bodyguard. You stayed by my side when no one else was. You have saved Leo so many times that I don't even know how to thank you. You mean a lot to us.”

Her hand clenched into the fists. I can tell the sincerity of my words reached to her, but she took a deep breath and quickly turned her expression into a calm and professional one.

“You shouldn’t have.” She whispered softly as she looked at the ground. “You are not allowed to say the things you might regret later. I know what I am in your world—and it isn’t what you’re implying.”

He tried again, reaching as though to brush her hand, to make her look at him. “Raven, I—” She backed away slowly and stopped him and shook her head.

“No, Gideon. Stop.” Her voice was shaky but her eyes were firm and unyielding. “If you cross this line, I won’t be able to do my job. Protecting your son is my duty. Anything else… it’s impossible.”

She looked away from me. “I feel protective about him because I see my Nova in him and children are innocent, they do need protection.”

The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by the faint rustle of the night breeze through the garden leaves. I wanted to talk with her more but no words came out of my mouth. The Alpha who commanded his pack easily now felt helpless in front of her determined vow to protect the children no matter what.

Raven turned “I will go back to the children's Alpha.” I turned back and left the light of the lamp and walked into the shadows going to the children’s room, resuming her duty as bodyguard.

I stood still while clenching my fist on my sides, watching Raven disappear in the shadows of the garden. Though I didn't want to feel much about the rejection it still gnawed at me, the pain of rejection felt heavier than it should have felt.

I sighed and went back to my office but not feeling down but with determination “Raven, don't worry I won't let you suffer any more injustice anymore.”

Daphne’s POV

I watched everything from behind the Ivy column. My eyes were full of malice and cruel delight. I quietly followed Gideon when he left quickly, my curiosity got the best of me and I followed them and my curiosity didn't disappoint me. The scene I watched was worth it.

So… Gideon wants his little bodyguard, she thought, her lips curving into a sharp smile. And she’s foolish enough to resist him. Perfect. I will make sure her resistance was worth it. She is smart to know, I will not let anyone get close to Gideon.

I slammed my fist on the column with determination and obsession “Gideon, you are only mine. I took out Claire, I won’t hesitate to take out Raven too.” I spoke with a hushed yet obsessed tone.

I bit my lip, almost giddy with the satisfaction of knowing Raven had just rejected Gideon. But my satisfaction was not the sweet kind—it was venom, curling into something far more dangerous. Lucky Raven rejected Gideon otherwise I won't be able to spare her.

But a few questions still lingered in my mind and that was how did she survive wolfsbane? How did she recover so quickly, it would have instantly killed any normal wolf? And now she is back like nothing really happened to her, not an ounce of sickness..

I was getting more curious about what really happened to her in the hospital. I looked at the place where they both were moments ago thoughtfully. After Raven is back I can tell Gideon has become a bit distant with me.

“No..no I can't let that happen.” I spoke softly to myself as I clenched my fist knowing I had worked hard for years to get the position of Luna and now my position was in danger again..

I felt like Gideon these days were no longer in my control which made me feel panicked. I now decided that I will have to make my process fast to be Luna and carry Gideon’s pup.

Silently, I turned back toward the manor, my heels clicking softly against the stone path as schemes began weaving in my mind. If Raven thought tonight had been humiliating, I promised myself it was only the beginning.

And in the quiet garden, Gideon remained unaware that his most vulnerable moment had already been witnessed by the last person he would have wanted.
