Chapter 91

After learning what Andrew had done to Ethan’s parents, I was absolutely disgusted and horrified on Ethan’s behalf. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with such an awful experience at such a young age.

I agreed with Ethan and Mars that Andrew needed to be stopped. Mars was far more bloodthirsty when it came to Andrew’s demise. Ethan wanted to continue to be strategic, but Mars wanted to fight fire with fire.

He wanted to go after everything that Andrew loved, and part of me agreed with him. Andrew didn’t deserve to hold so much power in the werewolf world if this was how he was going to wield it.

“How can I help?” I asked them. Ethan and Mars’ gazes shot to my face, looking a little startled. I supposed they didn’t think that I would be so willing in causing the downfall of another man. Even though he was absolutely evil.

Ethan started allowing me to take on more responsibilities in the company as I fully devoted myself to duties as his Luna. I spent a lot of time bouncing back and forth between Ethan’s office and the conference room, preparing the room for meetings and doing whatever I could to make Ethan’s life easier.

Ethan’s faith in me fed my ego as he handed me projects to complete and employee complaints to address and try to solve in order to stay busy. I felt as though I was a productive part of the company’s flow rather than a glorified assistant.

As Luna, I needed members of the pack to see me as someone to look up to, not someone under Ethan’s thumb.

I was his equal.

Eventually, Ethan gave me the clearance to start attending company meetings with him.

“Take a seat, Ava,” He gestured to a second seat at the head of the table. I felt so giddy as I plopped myself into the cushioned computer chair and Ethan took his spot beside me.

We sat together, front and center. We were a unit.

The meeting got started. Ethan announced that he needed the team to begin working on proposals for making Blue Moon Group stand out as a company.

“I need something that shows that we are the powerhouse of the business world,” Ethan commanded from his spot. “I’m asking you all to come up with an event, an advertisement - something that makes us stand apart from the other packs out there.”

Several employees nodded their heads and started jotting down notes on the pads of paper in front of them.

The meeting went on in the same way, it was almost exclusively Ethan doing all of the talking and his subordinates taking notes and preparing for another meeting later on in the week. I admired Ethan’s leadership skills.

I admired Ethan, period.

After the meeting was over, Mars and I were dismissed to work on a project in Ethan’s office. Recently, Mars and I had to work together a lot while Ethan was tending to a separate issue. As CEO he had his own plate of work.

The issue with Mars and I constantly working together was that Mars and I never really got along. Part of me never forgave him for the way he told Ethan to divorce me for Sarah. The way he wanted me gone so that Ethan could marry someone with more power and influence.

The only reason we were even cordial with each other was because I was friends with Olivia and he with Ethan.

It was a mere friendly acquaintance. Though, with how often we found ourselves working together over the last week, I was determined to make him my friend at the very least.

“Mars!” I chirped as I came into the office the Friday of that week. “I brought you some lemon squares!”

I held out a plastic container filled to the brim with freshly baked lemon squares. They were my favorite recipe to make, and one of the most universally liked pastries that I knew of. Besides simple cookies, I supposed.

Mars looked up from a pile of paperwork he was reading at his desk and regarded me with an amused expression.

“What’re those for?” He questioned, looking between me and Ethan.

I told Ethan about my plan the night before. He shrugged at Mars and retreated to his own office, chuckling lightly.

“I just thought you might like them!” I smiled and put the container down on top of the paper pile. “Share them with Olivia if you’d like.”

Mars watched me with a knowing smile as I followed Ethan to his office. I tried to pretend like it was something I would do with no ulterior motives, but I needed to be Mars’ friend. He’s Ethan’s best friend and the husband of my new very good friend.

I just wanted him to like me and prohibit him from telling Ethan he could do better in the future.

The rest of the day, I took any opportunity I could to be on friendly terms with Mars. He humored me for a while, but at the end of the day I felt like he thought I was just an annoying suck up.

“You know you don’t even have to be here, right?” He asked right before we were about to go into the end of the week meeting with Ethan.

“I do, I’m Ethan’s wife. I work here.” I replied, coolly.

“You’re playing a part, you don’t have any real pull in the company. You do secretary work, Ava. Just go home and bake.” He shook his head and entered the conference room before I could say anything more.

I huffed and followed after him, trying to cool my head after what he just said to me.

I felt like the work I did, while not as big as Ethan’s, was just as important. I was personable, I was the person people looked up to, the person people could talk to.

Ethan entered the conference room, placed a kiss on my forehead, and sat beside me as he called the meeting to start.

“Let’s start with the issue I brought forward at the beginning of the week,” Ethan commanded the attention of every set of eyes in the room. “Has anyone put together a plan that they believe would work?”

A few people lowered their heads, avoiding his gaze so as to not be called out in front of everyone. Safe to say those people had absolutely no ideas.

No one wanted to speak. Every idea that was presented was shot down by Ethan or scoffed at by Mars. The workers’ egos were completely squashed by the lack of progress and I cringed as I watched Ethan look around the room to catch someone, anyone’s eye.

“I have an idea,” I interjected through the silent room. My voice echoed.

Mars looked at me with an expectantly amused expression, like he just knew whatever I was about to say was not worth anyone's time.

Ethan, on the other hand, turned to me and waited patiently for me to continue. He looked encouragingly at me.

“What if we throw a charity ball? Support a charity of some sort and invite every powerful alpha in the city. We could bring in the press, paparazzi, everyone.”

Ethan looked at me with pure adoration in his eyes.

“Ava, that is absolutely brilliant.”

After the meeting, Ethan came up to me privately and embraced me in a giant hug.

“You're my smart girl,” He cooed in my ear and pulled away from me. Then, he led me to an empty office on the top floor gesturing to the empty room.

“I'm promoting you as of today,” He told me, “And this office is entirely yours.”
