Chapter 4 My greatest Nightmare.

CHAPTER 4.

BLAIR'S POINT OF VIEW.

My greatest nightmare is happening all within a span of twenty-four hours: from aborting my unborn child to discovering that my husband is cheating.

And yes, I'm not stupid, I know it's not a misunderstanding. Alpha Dominus Jones of the Nightshade pack is cheating!

Cheating with his fated mate, if I may add.

It's not like I didn't see it coming—that was my greatest fear. Each day in that marriage, I kept praying that she wouldn't return. I begged the moon goddess to keep her far away from the face of the pack.

Most times, I hoped she had found someone else—maybe another Alpha from a different pack had fallen in love with her and started a family.

And worse still, I wished that if she hadn't, the Moon Goddess would bless her with a mate so she would never have any reason to come back to this pack again.

But I guess the Moon Goddess doesn't like me, because the woman I see in that video is Jessica—my husband's fated mate.

Ten years ago, they were a lovey-dovey couple, one of the most prominent pairs in the pack. We heard their sweet rom-com stories from other packs and even at school. But Jessica left after Dominus was asked to marry me to foster peace.

Many said she left for school, others claimed her parents sent her overseas to shield her from heartbreak.

Leaving your mate can be excruciating. It was painful for me when I left mine to honor pack duties.

“Blair, I think you should just calm down. That might be a misunderstanding,” I told myself.

Moments later, I decided I needed to visit the Alpha presidential house. I needed to see Dominus.

Yanking the sheets off my body, I moved to step down from the bed, but the nurse stopped me.

“I’m sorry, ma'am, but you can’t leave right now,” she said.

“Why?”

“We still have some treatments that you need to undergo before you leave. You’ll be discharged in two days!” she explained.

“Two days?” I exclaimed in disbelief.

They must be joking if they think I’ll stay here for another two days.

Two days? That’s enough time for Jessica to move in and for Dominus to marry her.

Ignoring her, I quickly yanked off the blankets and leaped down, my feet kissing the ground immediately.

“Luna Blair, please, you can’t leave now,” she blocked my path. “Y-you just had an abortion.”

My eyes narrowed at her. “The abortion has nothing to do with you, so I’d advise you to stay out of it unless you want the Alpha to know that you’re poking your nose in his business.”

She swallowed hard, but I moved forward, and she still didn’t budge from my path.

She stared at me for a while, and that only made my blood boil.

I shook my head, letting out an evil chuckle. “Move out of the way if you still want to keep your job.”

“One more word about staying in my way, and I will make sure you lose your job!”

My voice was shaky, my heart beating with a mix of rage and pain.

“Move out of my way. All I did was an… an abortion. I will be fine when I go out there,” I told her as I tried to pass. But she said the one word that broke my heart into a million pieces.

“H-hysterectomy…” she whispered in a croaked voice as I attempted to walk past her, and I froze.

“During the process, there were some complications,” she turned to me. “I’m sorry, but we had to carry out an emergency hysterectomy to keep you alive… your w-womb…”

Silence. That was all I could manage. My veins felt cold, freezing my chest at once, and I collapsed to the floor.

No… no no no no, that’s not possible. She is telling a pathetic lie. I hope so.

It had to be a prank.

“I’m sorry we had to do it to keep you alive,” she added.

For a moment, the world stopped spinning, and I didn't feel my legs anymore.

My fingers twitched by my sides, and slowly, with each passing second, my chest tightened.

My throat closed so tightly that I could barely breathe… He said more babies in the future; now my womb is gone?

“My… what?” I finally whispered, and the nurse trembled. She stared down, her eyes darting everywhere but my face.

“Your womb, Luna… we—”

“NO.” The word tore out of me, almost guttural, my wolf surging forward.

The nurse flinched, stepping back. Her eyes shimmered with pity, but I didn’t want pity… I wanted my womb back. That’s all I wanted right now.

“Luna, please… you were losing too much blood. It was an emergency to save you. We had no other option.”

“You had no right to do that without my consent!” I screamed, looking at her as tears rolled down my cheeks.

Her voice cracked as she spoke, “Alpha Dominus gave his consent. He asked us to carry on.”

Everything inside me froze. “…W-what?” I whispered.

She swallowed hard. “He—he approved it. You were unconscious, and we had to act fast. We told him about the complications, and he said… he said to do whatever you must to save her.”

To save me? Oh goddess! He didn't save me. He killed me.

Tears blurred my vision, and for the first time in my life, I lost the taste of life.

Why didn’t they just let me die? That would have been preferable.

The nurse reached forward timidly. “Luna, please, calm down—”

“Don’t you touch me!” I snapped, my voice sharp as I crawled backward, shaking my head again and again as tears streamed down my face. “Get out! Get the hell out!”

With that, she turned and left, the door clicked shut behind her, and I was alone.

I stayed in that room for the next four hours, and during those four hours, I screamed until my throat bled, until I lost my voice. I ripped at the sheets, clawed at the air, and sobbed until I couldn’t see.

Later that day, I left the hospital and called my driver to pick me up and take me to the presidential house.

In a couple of minutes, we arrived, and I wiped my eyes and sniffed before I took a walk in.

Upon entering, I noticed there was an ongoing celebration inside the Alpha's quarters.

The whole place was bustling with activity when I walked in. Well, I didn’t bother to look much; I came for my husband, so I headed inside immediately.

As I pushed the door open, the first person my eyes caught was Jessica Bliss and Dominus.

“Cheers to a future successful campaign!”

They clinked their glasses with the other Alpha council members present, followed by a roar of laughter.

I watched how Dominus stared at Jessica intently, and they both gulped their drinks in sync.

Pain shot through my chest at once. He knew I had almost died, and he still didn’t show up.

I swallowed hard, taking another step forward, and only then did they notice my presence.

His lips curved into a smile as he walked across the room to approach me immediately. “Speaking of which… Jessica, meet my former campaign manager,” he told her.

She dropped her glass instantly and walked over, a wide smile resting perfectly on her red lips. “Nice to meet you, Blair. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

She leaned in for a hug, but I stood stiff. She leaned back, forcing a smile.

“What’s going on?” I turned to Dominus, asking sternly.

He chuckled. “What do you mean, what’s going on? We are planning for my next campaign; that’s what’s happening here.”

“I think you should go home and rest. You must have been stressed,” he added, trying to dismiss me.

“Home?” I repeated, almost in disbelief. “I just had an abortion! A-and you didn’t show up?”

“I had to pick Jessica up,” he whispered. “We will talk about this when I come back home tonight. Go home and rest.”

I almost snapped at him for trying to force me home, but I held myself back and asked, “Why’s she here? You never told me she was coming.”

“Oh, Jessica?” He let out a soft laugh. “She will be managing my campaign this time around. The battleground has gotten tough, unlike the last one.”

For a moment, I lost my voice. My head was spinning, and I couldn’t even think straight. He brought her back to run his campaign while I sat back and watched?

“Listen, Blair. Other Alphas are coming from different states this time, and they all have full funds. Everybody is going to flip the same script, so I plan to go back to our roots and sell the mate bond to grab this win. That’s the only way I can win. My pack has always loved Jessica because she’s my mate, and her pack loves me equally. With her running my campaign, we’ve secured a whopping fifty percent of the votes.”

“That’s the only way we can win this. So I hope you understand,” he added.

“So… this is just… what?” I fixed my gaze on him. “Just a publicity stunt to win votes and nothing attached?”

His eyes darted away immediately, and I saw how hard he gulped.

That’s all I need to know: it’s not just a publicity stunt. He’s still in love with her. I’m an attorney, I know when my client is lying.

“Blair…” He called my name. “I need to go back now. I’m busy. We will meet at home. Sorry for the hysterectomy…..you’ll heal in a few days…”

I watched him walk away from me, and my eyes grew wet immediately.

Not from the fact that he just walked away from me and made a choice, but from the fact that he doesn’t understand what a hysterectomy means.

He just said I’d heal. Does a woman ever heal after her womb has been taken away?

With that, I wasted no time walking back outside.

But I didn’t go home, that’s no longer my home. Dominus just made his choice, dismissing me and going to his fated mate.

I’d rather leave now than wait for him to tell me to go. It’s coming. I know that divorce papers will be served any time soon.

Minutes later, the car stopped in front of the hotel I’d asked one of my associates to book for me.

Once I stepped out, they were already waiting for me, and I quickly checked into the room. They had already brought my clothes and everything I’d need for a few days before I got my head together.

I took the elevator, and in minutes, I was on the last floor where my room was located. Upon reaching the door, I quietly swiped my card, and the door opened.

Wasting no time, I quickly jumped into the bathroom. Steam curled up from the bathwater, soft ribbons of heat brushing against my damp cheeks as I leaned back in the tub, my hands resting against the edges.

I tried my best not to remember everything that had happened today. I was still weak, but I was no longer bleeding. Minutes later, a knock came at the door, and I frowned. Who the hell is there?

Clutching the edge of the tub, I rose and wrapped a white towel around my body, water still trickling down my legs as I padded barefoot across the floor. I'm sure it's one of my associates.

Slowly, I unlocked the door and opened it just a little bit. The figure I saw standing in front of me made me stop breathing.

The hallway lights spilled across him, showcasing his tall, broad shoulders and his dark hair, slicked back carelessly, with a few wet strands falling over his forehead.

Darius Sinclair.

The Alpha of the Nightbane pack.
