Chapter 2 How time flies.

CHAPTER 2.

BLAIR'S POINT OF VIEW.

6 years Later

And who's to say being the catalyst for the pack peace treaty wasn't a good deal for me?

Of course it was. It has to be, especially after my mate betrayed me. He knew what the dinner was for, yet he never said a word to me or even tried to fight for me at that table.

Instead, he let me jump all over the place, excited that we were finally going to tell both of our families about our bond—the bond we had been hiding for months.

It's been six long years, but I still remember that day like it was yesterday. How happy I was, how excited I felt going to the Alpha's house. I made sure to wear my best dress, only for my father to betray me. He never stood by me once in my life. I needed him that day, and he never showed up or stood up for me, just like he never stands up for me when the pack mocks me for being motherless. Nobody ever says I am the cause, but they imply it indirectly.

That's the only reason I vowed to become a lawyer.

I wanted to gain enough power to sue whoever laughs in my face or behind my back.

It's been six years sitting at that table where everyone was against me, except for my mate’s brother, Ronan.

I still don't understand why Ronan was looking out for me that day.

He's not my mate; he's supposed to be my brother-in-law. But not only did he slam his cutlery against the table that day to show he was not in support, he also texted me an address so we could both run away that night.

But I didn't. I was just a naive she-wolf who was loud when she didn’t need to be and feisty at the wrong times.

After that night with the Alpha's family, I stayed in my room for the two days I spent in my pack.

On the third day, I was moved to the Nightshade pack to meet my new husband—Dominus Jones.

It's been six years since I came to this pack, and a lot has changed.

A lot has gone by, but one thing has been the most surprising over the years: how my husband loves me.

I didn't expect the son of a mad king to love me the way Dominus Jones loves me.

When I came here as a naive girl six years ago, I didn't expect him to treat me so well. I also didn't expect his parents to treat me with such kindness. Honestly, I thought my life had ended; the rumors about the pack were all lies.

I could have sworn they were faking it, but faking it for six years?

Who'd fake that long and not slip out of character once or twice over the years?

Over the years, I have moved on to achieve my dream as an attorney—not just an ordinary one, but one of the top attorneys in the pack.

Other packs come to seek my assistance on various cases, and I now own the biggest law firm in the entire pack.

My popularity stemmed from when I helped my husband, Alpha Dominus Jones, win the election as the Alpha president of the four axes of the werewolf kingdom.

Nobody believed in me except him. I was just a rookie back then, but I ran his campaign, and when the votes came in, it was a landslide victory.

No one has done that in the history of the werewolf kingdom—letting your supposed Luna run your campaign and handle everything related to your elections.

I won… We won… But our marriage didn't win.

Pack duties have taken over our lives to the point where we barely see each other these days.

Most of the time, it’s once a week. Often, I don’t see him for over two weeks, and I have to go see him at the pack presidential house.

I guess we never considered the obligations and responsibilities that come with leadership.

He wasn't just my husband anymore; he was the leader of the four werewolf states and the leader of the people.

I'm forced to share my husband with thousands of werewolves.

Honestly, most times I get frustrated and want to complain, but I’m in no position to do so since I was the one who gave him that win.

I ran that campaign like my life depended on it. I should have known what I was getting him into before agreeing to run his campaign.

But I guess it’s too late now.

The alarm from my phone snapped me back to reality, and I quickly grabbed my bag.

It’s time to go home; I have dinner with my husband, Alpha President Dominus Jones. I can’t miss it for anything—we haven’t seen each other in the last three weeks.

And I need to see him to share the good news.

Moments later, I was inside the car, and they drove me back home with my Luna’s entourage.

Sitting in the car, I caressed my belly and thought about what Dominus would think when I shared this news with him.

A few minutes later, we arrived at the Alpha home…..the largest house in the pack where we live.

Once the entourage arrived, they opened the door, and I quickly made my way inside.

Walking in, dinner was already served, waiting for us to devour.

“Where's the Alpha president?” I asked one of the Alpha's secret service agents.

“He's upstairs, ma'am.”

My lips curled into a small smile. Just the right place for us to have some privacy.

At the dinner table, the Alpha's secret service agency would be in every nook and corner, protecting their Alpha president, so the room was the perfect choice.

I quickly stepped into the escalator, and in seconds, I was upstairs.

With that, I made my way to the room, just where I knew he’d be.

Once I got there, my eyes caught the ethereal beauty standing in front of the mirror. He was on a call—something I had come to expect.

Even in private moments, there was always a call coming in to ruin it for us.

Dominus, over six feet tall, with a chiseled jawline and broad shoulders, backed me.

A smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I watched him through the mirror—the way his tall frame filled the room, the way his voice dropped low when he spoke, calm yet very commanding as Alpha president.

The words he spoke still did something to me after all these years.

Before I could stop myself, my feet moved on their own. My heart picked up its pace, not from nerves, but from the sheer joy of finally being near him again after three long weeks.

Without waiting for him to notice me, I slipped my arms around his waist from behind, pressing my face against his back. The warmth of his body seeped into mine instantly, grounding me and melting away the stress of the day.

He froze for a split second, maybe a little surprised… then I felt his muscles relax under my touch. I inhaled deeply, breathing in that familiar scent of vanilla mixed with hot coffee. I’d missed having him around.

He turned slowly, ending his call without a word. His gaze met mine—warm, a little tired, but full of that same quiet intensity that made me fall in love with him six years ago when he told me that while both of our packs might give us lemons, he was willing to turn them into lemonade if I was willing to do the same.

Dominus leaned in and planted a kiss on my lips. “I have missed you, my sweetie pie,” he mused, and I blushed.

“Go take a quick bath and come down for dinner,” he said, trying to walk out when I stopped him.

“I have a surprise for you.”

Dominus turned to me, his brows furrowed. “What is it?”

“Guess.”

“Come on,” he chuckled. “You know I’m not good at guessing.”

With that, I reached for my bag and pulled out the ultrasound picture. I handed it to Dominus, and once his eyes met it, I watched as the smile that had been plastered on his face slowly started to vanish, and his excitement disappeared.

I swallowed hard. What was happening?

For a few seconds, Dominus didn't say a word.

Just silence.

The kind that creeps into your bones and makes you anxious while your stomach twists.

He stared at the ultrasound picture, his brows furrowing tighter with each second that passed. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and when he finally looked at me, the warmth that had been there a moment ago was gone—completely wiped away.

My heart skipped. I tried to smile, even though my lips trembled.

"That's our baby," I said, in case he didn't know what he was looking at. "You're going to be a father."

Dominus didn't smile, nor did he blink. Instead, he exhaled sharply, his jaw tightening as he ran a hand over his face.

"B-blair, we can't have this right now. Not now, please."

I froze. W-what?

He turned to me, dropping the picture on the bed as if it suddenly disgusted him. "Blair, this isn't the right time for a baby. You of all people know what's going on right now… the council meetings and the upcoming campaign and elections for my second term. I can't afford any distractions right now."

"Distractions?" My voice cracked before I could stop it.

I couldn't believe he just called our bundle of joy a distraction.

He turned to me. "Don’t make this dramatic, Blair. You know how sensitive the pack’s politics are right now. A pregnancy would complicate everything."

I felt my chest tighten, like someone had just crushed my ribs.

I stared at him, my hands trembling as I picked up the ultrasound picture from the bed.

For a few seconds, he didn't say anything; he just watched me as I stared at the ultrasound picture.

“Go get rid of that thing!” his cold voice cut in. “I do not want any kids right now. When I want one, I will tell you, and we will make as many as we want when the time is right!”

I almost scoffed. He couldn't be serious, right?

“A-and what is the right time? When will be the right time? Everyone is asking for an heir. I am tired of the whispers. Let’s keep this one, please,” I pleaded. “I crave to have my own babies.”

“Fine!” he announced, and my face lit up immediately. “Go on and keep it. Train it alone; I am not a part of that journey with you!”

My face fell into a mixture of shock and despair.

Pain twisted in my chest as I watched Dominus storm into our bedroom and start packing his clothes.

“What are you doing?” I asked softly, and he turned to me harshly.

“What does it look like I’m doing?”

“I’m packing and leaving the damn house for you and your baby,” he barked, startling me. “You’ll have to pick one: me or the baby.”

My hand reflexively moved to my stomach, my hands caressing it protectively.

"Oh, I see," he chuckled coldly. "You've made a choice, huh? Good luck then.”
