Chapter 7
Hannah’s POV
“I had no idea she was your luna, your majesty…” the woman said, bowing her head as shame fell over her. Her body was visibly trembling, and she refused to meet my eyes. “It’s just a rule that…”
“I don’t care what your excuse is. Apologize to my luna, now!”
“I’m so sorry,” she said, lifting her gaze to meet mine. “Please… forgive me…”
“This store should be open to the entire kingdom, not just Alphas, and Betas,” Sebastian said before I could say anything in response to her.
“Yes, your majesty,” she said, bowing her head again. “I’m so sorry for being disrespectful.”
“I won’t allow this kind of disrespect in my kingdom,” he growled.
“Of course,” she breathed. “I promise, it will never happen again.”
Her attitude had completely transformed; I couldn’t believe the kind of power Sebastian had over others. I watched their exchange with such awe; as did everyone else.
“No…” he said. “It won’t. I’ll be sure of that going forward.”
She met his eye with worry evident on her face; she didn’t know what he meant. Neither did I. He pulled a checkbook out of his jacket and began writing something onto it. The silence was heavy around the boutique as we all watched him. He detached the check and handed it to her.
“This should be enough to cover the expenses of the boutique,” he told her.
“I’m sorry?” She asked, staring at the check dumbfounded. “You want to buy the boutique?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t understand…” she said with disbelief.
“My luna deserves only the best. This store belongs to her now. She will be able to get whatever she wants,” he explained. “New rules will be enforced as well; there will be no discrimination allowed. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, your majesty,” she said.
I was speechless. I wasn’t expecting this from him. Not only did he think I deserved an entire store, but he showed how much he truly cared for those in his kingdom. Not just Alphas and Betas, but Omegas too.
“He loves us!” Nora said chipperly. I shushed her instantly.
My heart continued to beat rapidly in my chest and my palms were growing sweaty. After a long pause, the woman finally agreed and stepped aside for Sebastian and me. I followed him through the aisles to pick out a couple of clothes and an outfit for the dinner party.
“I thought you had a meeting?” I asked him, once we were a distance away.
“It was canceled,” he answered.
“What you did back there…” I tried to say. “About buying the store…”
“No need to thank me,” he said, disinterest in his tone. “You are my luna and I meant it when I said you deserve the best. I wasn’t going to allow lowlife scum to speak to you like that.”
My face reddened at his words, and I struggled to keep the smile from appearing on my face as my heart leaped in my chest.
…
The dinner party was across town in a large building they often used for banquets. It was filled with many unfamiliar faces from the most important wolves in the kingdom. I wore a maroon noodle strap dress and stood by Sebastian as we walked through the room. I could smell the food baking in the kitchen, which wasn’t quite ready yet.
There was light music playing in the background as people from all over mangled and laughed with one another. I was finally able to meet Beta Arnold who seemed pleasant. Sebastian seemed comfortable with him, and it was nice seeing him loosen up a little. It was almost like Beta Arnold was more than just a subordinate to the Alpha King, it seemed he was also a friend.
I scanned the room, trying to see if I could find any familiar faces. Surely someone from my pack would make an appearance; perhaps my father, considering he was an Alpha.
My eyes stopped as they picked up a petite woman with long blonde hair and a golden shimmering dress that nearly made her glow.
Her eyes found me as well and they widened, and her lips thinned out for a moment before she perked back up and gave her fakest smile.
“I’m glad to see you!” Amy said cheerfully as she approached me.
“I wasn’t expecting to see you here,” I said cautiously; secretly wishing that Sebastian was still by my side but he found some important guests he needed to speak with and left me to mingle on my own.
I noticed Thomas was walking closely behind her, refusing to meet my eyes. Thomas was at her side refusing to meet my eyes.
Coward. I thought to myself.
“Where’s Sebastian? We should get back to him,” Nora said impatiently from within me.
I took in a deep breath, trying to calm her.
“It’s a celebrity dinner party,” Amy said. I knew it was hard for her to not roll her eyes at me. “Why wouldn’t I be here?”
I kept myself from scoffing; I didn’t want to embarrass Sebastian by causing a family scene. I turned away from her and scanned the venue until my eyes found Sebastian. He was talking amongst a small group of people. He looked so put together and professional; my heart fluttered. He wore his mask as he usually does, but viewing him from the side, I could almost see the outlining of his face and I could imagine what it could look like.
“You are checking him out,” Nora chuckled. “He is handsome.”
She was right. Despite his mask, he was good-looking. His suit was tight around his biceps and left no mystery of what lay underneath. As he spoke, he had a smile that made me forget how to breathe. Those around him laughed with him and I wondered what he said that was so funny.
Amy also seemed to notice him and something crossed her face that almost seemed like dread. Maybe even regret. She always felt entitled to everything I had; it wouldn’t surprise me if she suddenly wanted Alpha King Sebastian, just because I was now married to him.
Thomas looked uncomfortable as Amy sized up my husband.
“Is father here as well?” I asked, focusing my attention back on Amy, and trying to get her attention off Sebastian.
“Somewhere,” she muttered, waving her hand in dismissal. “As is my mother. They wouldn’t miss such an important event.”
She finally pulled her gaze away from Sebastian long enough to look me over. I still couldn’t read the expression she was giving me, but it was making me feel uneasy.
“I’m honestly surprised you are here,” she said with a frown. “With a new dress.”
It was clear that her nice persona was starting to fade.
“Well, I am now the luna queen,” I said, trying to keep the bitterness out of my tone. “Figured it was time for a new wardrobe.” After a long pause, I said, “Excuse me. I’m going to find the lady’s room.”
“I’ll come with you!” Amy said, following closely behind me, leaving Thomas to fend for himself. “We have so much to catch up on anyway,” she said loudly with a laugh.
As we got into the bathroom; Amy instantly walked over to the mirror and started fixing her already perfect blonde hair. I went into the bathroom stall to sit on the toilet when she starts speaking.
“I feel almost sorry for you,” Amy said, there was bitterness oozing from her tone.
I knew she couldn’t keep up the nice act for long. I didn’t say anything in response though; I wasn’t sure what to say.
“Having to marry such a hideous and awful man,” she continued. “It must be heart-wrenching. Especially knowing that’s the best you can do.”
Nora was impatient with her and itching to be released.
“I don’t know what’s worse,” she spoke again. “You settling for that monster, or him settling for an omega nobody.”
I finished in the stall and pushed the door open with force; the loud sound made her jump as she turned to face me.
“Actually,” I started to say. “He’s quite sweet to me. Sebastian is also incredible in bed. I orgasmed at least 8 times last night. That’s more than I can say about your boyfriend who climaxes within 2 minutes and is done for the night.”
I saw the color draining from Amy’s face.
“You stupid bitch,” she hissed. “Shut the fuck up about Thomas. You’re just jealous he wanted me and not you.”
“How can I be jealous of a man who is as small as a pencil? It’s foolish to compare that to Sebastian’s anaconda.” I paused for a moment as I washed my hands. “But perhaps you have a preference for small pencils.”
Amy’s face reddened as fury flashed through her eyes; Nora was loving this and laughing within me. Typically, I would ignore Amy’s antics and put up with her bullshit, but I was done being her rag doll and being spoken to in such an ill manner.
“You fucking bitch,” Amy hissed again as she stepped toward me, stretching her arm in the air in a quick motion.
She was about to slap me.
A dark shadow appeared, grabbed my arm, and pushed me toward the ground. It was one of Sebastian’s bodyguards. Sebastian must have seen me disappearing toward the bathroom and sent him in after me. In any other circumstance, I would have been embarrassed, but in this case, I was grateful he was there to shield me from Amy.
Soon, I felt a familiar presence.
I heard a soft chuckle from the entrance of the bathroom, and I turned to see Sebastian standing before us. He was staring down at me and shaking his head in dismay. But that smirk was unmistakable.
“You like my bed skills that much?”
