Chapter 200
Hannah
I woke up in the hospital. I opened my eyes, adjusting them to the dimmed lighting and seeing Sebastian sitting by my side. He jumped to his feet as soon as I opened my eyes. I thought I would have been in a world of pain, but everything just felt numb.
“Try not to move too much,” he says as he fixes my pillow. He grabs a glass of water on my bedside and brings it to my lips. The cold water feels good going down my throat and I smile at him in gratitude. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay,” I said to him in a hoarse tone. “How’s Wrenley?”
His face lights up at the mention of our daughter and I know that means good news.
“She’s perfect,” he breathes. “See for yourself.”
He goes across the room to a small bassinet and picks up the cooing baby. She’s wrapped in a pink blanket. She’s so small and as he brings her closer. She looks just as I remembered her. Her dark eyes peer up at me and for a moment, I see recognition.
There is a faint knock on the door and Sebastian goes to open it. I’m pleased to see Caroline, Nancy, and Raya flooding into the room.
“I’m so glad you’re awake,” Nancy says happily. “You did a wonderful job.”
“Thanks to you,” I say with a fond smile. “I couldn’t have done that without you.”
“It was nothing. I do this all the time,” she says to me. “It’s just the first time I’ve done this outside the hospital.”
We both laugh.
“She’s beautiful, Hannah,” Raya breathes as he looks at Wren. “I’m so happy for you.”
“Oh, Raya,” I say as more tears filled my eyes. “I’m so sorry for ruining your wedding.”
“Are you kidding me? You didn’t ruin anything. You made it so much better!”
“I’m so glad to hear that,” I say as she hugs me.
“So, guess who asked me out for this weekend,” Nancy says with a twinkle in her eyes.
She doesn’t have to say anything for me to know. I saw the way Dr. Davis looked at her when she performed my birth.
As if on cue, Dr. Davis comes into the room.
“How are you feeling? Any pain?” He asks.
“No,” I answer truthfully. “I’m feeling numb.”
“Good; that’s how I like it,” he says. He changes my IV and checks on Wrenley before leaving the room. But not before pausing and glancing at Nancy. “I’ll pick you up at 8 on Saturday night.”
She beams as she watches him leave the room.
“There’s something I wanted to share with you as well,” Caroline, who has been quiet up until that point, says. We all look over at her questionably. “You mentioned, months ago, that I should give fighting a shot. I brought it up to Scott who agreed that it was not a bad idea to learn to defend myself. So, he’s been showing me some moves. I’m surprisingly good and I kind of like it…”
I gasp in shock; I wasn’t expecting her to be saying this so soon and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for her. She was finally beginning to fulfill her destiny. I knew she had this potential in her and now she was seeing it too.
“I’m not sure how you knew that I would be good at this, but I wanted to thank you for bringing it to my attention,” she says. “And having faith in me.”
“Of course, Caroline,” I say in return.
She clears her throat and turns to Sebastian.
“With that being said, Scott and I discussed it and I would like to start training with the gammas, sir. With your permission of course.”
Sebastian rose his brows and I’m fighting the smile that so desperately wants to appear on my face. Eventually, Sebastian nods his head once.
“I think I can make some arrangements and make that happen. Welcome to the team.”
…
10 years later
“Mom!!” Wrenley says, running into my study with 5-year-old Jameson running in behind her. “Jamie is being a pain. He keeps poking me after I told him to stop!”
“Jameson, stop being a pest to your sister,” I playfully scold. “And Wren, stop tattling on your brother. We’ve talked about conflict resolutions.”
“I know,” she says rolling her eyes. “I have to learn to solve my own problems. Blah blah.”
I laugh, unable to hold it in any longer.
“Shouldn’t you be getting ready for your lessons? Gemma will be here shortly.”
“Yes, I’ll go right now. Being the moon goddess’ chosen daughter is exhausting. Especially the second time around in a new time zone,” she says before she leaves.
When Wrenley was around 3 years old and started discovering her powers, she also began remembering her past life in the other time zone before we went back in time. I was surprised that she remembered everything, including our time in the underworld. That was also the time we reached out to Gemma, who also had all her memories still, and brought her to our pack so she can be here to help Wrenley with her transformation. She was not just a werewolf, but she was also the daughter of the moon goddess. Which means she has magic that only witches can help her control.
Wrenley was 10 years old, turning 11, and she was the most powerful being in this kingdom as ever known.
“Mommy, I’m hungry,” my son, Jameson, says, tugging at my pant leg. I sigh and close my laptop. I guess I’ve done enough work for right now. I worked mainly at home as a researcher. Once I developed a cure for my brother, my main work concluded but they still wanted me as a part of their diseases research center to see what else I can cure. Of course, maybe someday I will return full-time to the hospital and become a doctor again. But for right now, I enjoyed being a luna queen and taking care of my family.
“Let’s see if the kitchen has made lunch,” I say, taking his small hand into mine. “Then, maybe we can call your uncle Liam?”
“Yes!” Jameson says excitedly.
We go into the kitchen and grab some food; the two of us eat our lunch together in the dining hall. Sebastian comes into the dining hall shortly after with his own food.
“I think we should go to dinner as a family tonight,” Sebastian says, sitting beside me. “How does that sound?”
“It sounds great,” I say in return. “Jameson?” I ask, eyeing him carefully.
“Okay,” he says with a mouthful of food.
“Awesome, I’ll let Wren know. Maybe Raya, Arnold, and the kids can join us?” I suggest.
“Caroline and Scott too, considering they are the head gammas now; they should come along.”
I nod in agreement.
Before I can say anything more, my cell phone rings. I smile when I see the name on my phone.
“We were just going to call you; how’s life in the elder village?”
My cure for Liam was so great, that it not only saved his life but expanded his lifespan. Dr. Davis never saw anything like it before. A few years later, he developed the powers of an elder. The moon goddess had blessed him with a gift and now he’s living life training under the other elders.
“I called because I saw something. A prophecy.”
I frown at his worried tone.
“What is it, Liam?” I ask.
“It’s about Jameson. When he turns 18, he’s going to develop a power that’s so great, it could potentially be the fall of our nation,” he says slowly. I stare at Jameson with a frown as he continues to stuff his face with mac and cheese. “However,” Liam continues. “Wrenley is the key to saving it.”
Of course, she is. But that doesn’t bring me much fear because I knew what our family was capable of.
“Bring it on,” I say with a grin. “As long as we are together, it’s nothing we can’t handle.”
“I agree. Just thought you should know, big sis.”
I say my goodbyes to Liam and thank him for the information. Once I hang up the phone, Sebastian looks at me questionably.
“Everything okay?” He asks.
“Everything is perfect,” I answer with a fond smile. Jameson is also watching me curiously. “Finish your mac and cheese.”
“Okay,” he says with a chuckle.
Before I can say anything else, I hear an explosion sounding in the backyard. I jump to my feet.
“Everything’s fine!” I hear Gemma shouting moments later. “Just a little accident!”
“You go see what Wren got herself into,” Sebastian laughs. “I’ll stay with Jamie.”
I laugh too and rush toward the door, but not before saying, “I love our chaotic family.”
