Chapter 197

Hannah

It only took me a couple of hours to finish baking the cookies. The kitchen staff seemed utterly surprised that I knew my way around the kitchen. If they thought I was good at making cookies, I couldn’t wait to show them what else I could do.

As the luna queen, I promised myself that I would be helping the servants with their daily duties, including meals. I used to cook a lot when I lived in my father’s pack, so I knew how to create a decent meal. As an omega, I’ve always been pretty skilled at baking as well.

I gave each of the kitchen servants, including the head chef, a cookie so they can see how they came out.

“These are incredible, Luna Queen!” The head chef gasped.

I can’t help but smile at their praises as I bundled the rest up on a platter and covered the top of it.

“I hope she likes it,” another servant says with a mouthful of cookies. “If not, bring them back and we will finish them!”

I laugh at her antics and thank them before leaving the kitchen and then leaving the palace. Per an earlier request, the driver is already waiting for me outside the palace doors. He bows to me as I approach and opens the car’s backdoor.

I slide into the seat, and we begin driving away from the palace.

“Cookie?” I offer him.

He looks at me through the mirror and raises his eyebrows.

“Thank you, your highness,” he says, taking a cookie from my outstretched hand.

I smile at him in return.

It doesn’t take long for us to get to the hospital. I thank him as I get out of the car and walk toward the front of the hospital. I know exactly where I’m going and exactly who I want to see.

“Hey, Hannah,” Dr. Davis says with a broad smile. “Going to see Liam?”

“I will after,” I told him, returning his smile. “There’s someone else I need to see first.”

He raises his brows, questionably, at me. But he doesn’t say anything in return. I don’t really give him a chance to. I just continue walking until I get to the elevator. I make it to the top floor of the hospital. I wasn’t expecting to find her so easily, but as the elevator doors opened, I see her filling out some paperwork while leaning against the nurse’s station.

“Nancy?” I say as I approach her.

She looks up and frowns at me; she drops her pen on the counter and folders her arms across her chest.

“What do you want?” She asks, her tone running flat.

“I wanted to drop these off to you,” I say in return, placing the cookies on the counter. “I made them myself.”

“For me?” She asks as if she doesn’t believe for a second that I would act kindly toward her. “Why?”

“I just wanted to show you my appreciation,” I tell her in return. “There’s no occasion to it. I just thought of you and wanted to be kind.”

She stares at the cookies for a moment longer before looking back at me.

“Are they poisoned?”

I can’t help but laugh as I shake my head.

“No, Nancy; they aren’t poisoned,” I respond with a chuckle.

I open the top of the container and take a cookie out. I bite into it.

“See,” I say with a smile as I continue eating the cookie. “Not poisoned. But delicious.”

“I don’t get why you’re being nice to me,” she says, turning away from me so she can continue her work.

“Everyone deserves kindness,” I explain to her. “Including you. I want you to know that there are no hard feelings. I know we haven’t gotten along during my time here, but I always respected you as a person and as a doctor. You’re a very good doctor and I always admired that.”

“What kind of game are you playing?”

“No game,” I tell her, frowning. “I promise. This is only an act of kindness because I don’t want us to hate each other. You might be Amy’s best friend, but you’re my colleague and I respect you, Nancy. I hope we can get along in the future.”

She was quiet and for a moment, I don’t think she was going to respond. But then she does.

“Amy has been weird lately. Like she isn’t interested in what I have to say. It’s quite annoying having a best friend who won’t listen…”

“I’m always here to listen if you need to vent about something,” I tell her.

“I don’t think it’s really anything you can help me with.”

“If it’s about Dr. Davis, I think he might like you,” I say with a shrug.

Her eyes shoot up and over at me; I can tell she’s shocked by my words, and I smile, stifling a laugh.

“What have you heard?” She asks quickly.

“Nothing much,” I admit. “It’s just a vibe. I keep telling him that he should come to talk to you. But he hasn’t yet. I would give him some time to come around. Sooner than later, he will come to you.”

She’s quiet for another moment longer as she processes what I had just said. I had shocked her with this act of kindness and with this information. I was hoping this would be enough to get her to trust me. I made a promise to Nancy in another timeline that I would do my best to get her to be my friend. She didn’t want to go through this life alone and she’s been very lonely. I understand that now. She tries to make everyone else miserable because she’s self-reflecting. She’s actually the miserable one. She never thought she was good enough for Dr. Davis, so when I came around, she was threatened by me.

She’s been jealous this entire time and I don’t want her to think I’m any threat to her. I want her to think of me as a friend. I want to be her friend.

“Do you think I should talk to him?” She asks, I can feel her nerves rising.

I shake my head.

“Let him come to you. It’ll be less intimidating that way. I’ll do my best to keep boosting you up to him though and convincing him to come to talk to you,” I assure her. “You don’t need to worry about it. if it’s meant to be, it will be.”

I already knew it was meant to be. Neither of them will find their true mates. Dr. Davis will choose Nancy as his mate and mark her. Once marked, they won’t be able to sense their real mates anymore. They still have plenty of time before they come together as one. I have faith that everything is going to work out in Nancy’s favor, even without Xander’s influence on our lands.

She nods as she processes what I had said to her. She looks at the cookies and grabs one. This makes me happy; this was the start of a friendship. I turn away and begin heading toward the elevator doors when I heard her voice from behind me.

“Hey, Hannah?” She says, causing me to stop to turn back to her. “Thanks.”
