Chapter 191
Hannah
The light sounds of beeping began to slowly wake me. The faint lighting of the sun was beaming through the beige curtains that sat on the other side of the room. The familiar and musky scent of old cleaning supplies and latex filled my nose. I squinted as I adjusted my eyes to the new lighting of my surrounding area. I winced as pain coursed through my head; I had a splitting headache. From what? I wasn’t sure.
I went to sit up so I can get a better look at where I was, but my body wouldn’t allow me to move. Everything ached. I groaned as I stared up at the plain white ceiling and the dim lights that hung over my head.
The memory of what had happened was a bit foggy, but I remembered being in the underworld and defeating Xander for the final time. I also remembered using the time stone to bring us back in time so we can fix everything that had happened on our land in the last few years.
Had it worked?
I heard the soft snoring of someone from beside me, but it wasn’t coming from the uncomfortable bed I was lying in. No. This bed was way too small to occupy more than one person. It was coming from the chair that sat beside my bed.
I looked over to see Sebastian slouching in the chair with his head tilted to the side and his eyes squeezed tight. Soft sounds of his snoring escaped his lips; I fought the smile that tugged at my lips. He was cute when he slept so soundly. Just as soon as I smiled, I winced again in pain. My entire face ached.
I reached my hand to my face and touched the obvious bruising along my jawline. It was severely swollen; I could only imagine how it must have looked. I stared down at my wrist when I felt a bit of resistance and saw the IV needles sticking out of my forearm. I was being injected with a clear liquid from the bags beside me.
As I looked around the room briefly, I realized that I was in the hospital.
How did I get here?
I wanted to wake Sebastian, but the sounds of the door opening and closing shut were enough to open his eyes. I gasped as Dr. Davis walked into the room. The last time I saw him he was fighting for his life in the dungeon of the palace. But now he looked unharmed and unbothered. Sebastian groaned as he opened his eyes and looked at me, narrowing his eyes as he got a glimpse of my face. He looked like he wanted to say something; his mouth hung open in shock as he stared at the bruising. Then his eyes landed on the IV bag that occupied my wrist and then he looked around the room we were in.
Dr. Davis hardly paid attention to us when he walked in. He was too fixated on the clipboard he was holding. It wasn’t until Sebastian loudly cleared his throat that Dr. Davis finally looked up from the clipboard and saw us.
“Oh, you’re both awake,” he said with a smile. “Good morning.”
“What happened?” I asked; I was surprised at how hoarse my voice sounded.
Dr. Davis rose his brows.
“You don’t remember?” He asked.
I looked at Sebastian who looked just as clueless as me.
“It must have been the pain meds I gave you last night,” Dr. Davis chuckled with a headshake. “You were beaten in the palace dungeon. Sebastian brought you here…”
I looked at Sebastian again and I saw the realization dawning on him.
“Jack,” he muttered, meeting my eyes.
We traveled back to the time after Jack had beaten me in the dungeon of the palace. This was also when Sebastian told me he loved me for the first time. And… my hand went to my stomach, and I felt my face heating up. This was the night before we conceived Wrenley.
She wasn’t even born yet. My heart weighed heavily in my chest knowing that we traveled so far back in time that our daughter didn’t exist yet.
“Liam…” I breathed, staring at Dr. Davis with a worried gaze.
He furrowed his brows together and stared at me curiously.
“Liam’s fine,” he said, reassuringly. “He’s asleep right now, but he’s been doing well. At least, as well as he can be for right now.”
Right. He was still ill regardless of if Xander had any control over him.
“I was just dropping by to see if you need an IV change,” Dr. Davis said as he strolled over to my bedside and began fiddling with the IVs.
I couldn’t keep my eyes off Sebastian who was also staring back at me. I could see the wheels turning in his mind; I wasn’t sure what he was thinking. But I knew we were both on the same page. This was a lot for either of us to handle. We traveled back into the past. It worked.
Once Dr. Davis finished examining me and changing out my IV bags, he left the room without another word.
“It worked,” I breathed, staring down at my hands as if they held all this power I never knew existed. “We actually went back in time… right?”
Or was it all a dream? Did any of it really happen?
“Yeah…” Sebastian breathed. “It worked.”
It wasn’t a dream; Sebastian remembered everything that had happened too. It couldn’t have been a dream.
“Wrenley doesn’t exist yet,” I breathed, staring at him with sad eyes.
“No, but she will,” he said, taking a hold of my hands. “Now we can do all this the right way. Without Xander’s influence and meddling. There’s nothing in our way.”
I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my lips as he leaned down and kissed me gently. He was right; now that Xander had no power over our lands, we could finally start our lives the way the moon goddess had intended. As fated mates.
Sebastian was my fated mate and I knew that now. Nora knew that now.
“We have to get a hold of Arnold and Raya,” I said breathlessly as he pulled away from me. “Do you think they remember anything that happened?”
Sebastian thought about it for a moment before shaking his head.
“No,” he answered. “I don’t think they would remember anything. I think the only ones who would remember are us because we are the ones who reset the time. We are the ones the moon goddess had chosen. I think that’s the only reason why we remember what we do.”
It was probably a good thing that nobody would remember what had happened. It was better for them.
“What about your sister?” I asked sadly.
I knew Liz couldn’t have come back to our land with us. But according to Gemma, she wouldn’t have stayed in the underworld either. Her soul was free to go wherever souls go after life. She was free from the underworld at last. But I also knew that Sebastian didn’t get a chance to say his final goodbyes to her. The whole point of going to the underworld for Sebastian the very first time was to get his sister; I’m sure there was a part of him that went back the second and third time with the hope that he would be able to help her as well.
“It’s okay,” he said softly, giving me a faint smile. “She’s free now. She’s no longer having to live under Xander. That’s all I ever wanted for her. I can rest knowing she’s free.”
I wrapped my arms around him as he sat on the edge of my bed; nuzzling my head in his chest, I felt his lips on the top of my head.
“So, why did we go back to this moment?” Sebastian asked as he peered around my face.
As soon as he asked that question, I gasped loudly and met his eyes.
“Because of Caroline,” I said quickly. “Magnolia is going to kill her. We must save her!”
