Chapter 172
Sebastian
Sebastian paced back and forth through the living room of the small home. It’s been over an hour since Hannah disappeared. He knew he should have gone after her right away; he shouldn’t have let her go alone. But he knew once she had her mind set on something, there was no changing it. She insisted on needing to get some air.
Now it’s been over an hour, and he hasn’t been able to get through to her.
“Try mindlinking her again,” Raya suggested; he could hear the worry in her tone as well. She didn’t want to lose her best friend again; not after they disappeared for 5 years.
“I have,” Sebastian growled. “It’s not going through.”
“You don’t think Jack has her in custody, do you?” Raya asked, looking over at Arnold who looked uncertain.
“It would make sense,” Arnold agreed. “She did break the law and Jack is a hard ass when it comes to the law.”
“I’m going after her,” Sebastian said, storming toward the door.
“You don’t even know where she went?” Raya called after him. “She wouldn’t tell us.”
She was right; but if Jack did end up finding her and capturing her, the chances are she was at the palace. Sebastian clenched his fists at the very thought of it; Erik was ready to tear Jack a part.
“I”ll find her,” he said in return.
Just as he was about to pull the door open; a voice came through his head.
“Sebastian?”
“Hannah?” He breathed in relief, pausing at the door. “Where have you been? Are you okay?”
“I’m heading back to you now. Amy kicked me out.”
Sebastian almost forgot that Amy, Hannah’s half-sister, was Jack’s luna. He shuddered at the thought. But he was so relieved to hear that she was okay, and she was returning to him. He stumbled away from the door, trying to steady his rapid heartbeat.
“Just hurry,” he said in return. “And Hannah? Be careful…”
She said nothing as she disconnected the link. He could only imagine what had happened at the palace. She sounded so upset. He just wanted to wrap her into his arms and never let go of her. He wanted to protect both Hannah and Wrenley.
Wrenley was currently curled up on the couch with Liam. They both looked pale; it was clear they have both seen some stuff they’d rather forget about. Neither of them was speaking, but they were staring down at their trembling fingers. They were frightened. He had to fix this. He couldn’t wait around any longer. He needed to get into the underworld and destroy the heart once and for all.
Hannah returned to the house moments later and she had tears in her eyes. She stared up at Sebastian with worry as he hugged her. She was shivering; something had happened. He needed to find out what it was. He pulled her into the kitchen where they could speak alone.
“She’s the chosen daughter of the moon goddess,” Hannah breathed between tears, looking up at him. “She’s already been through so much and now she has to deal with that.”
“Slow down; what are you talking about?” Sebastian asked, raising his brows.
“I saw Gemma at the king’s cemetery,” she explained; that’s where she had gone when she said she needed air. She went into the king’s pack cemetery; Jack must have caught her there and brought her to the palace. “She told me that the moon goddess had given Wren her gifts. She said that Wren is the key to saving this entire kingdom. Technically, we all are the keys. But Wren’s powers are so great that I don’t know if she’ll be able to handle them, Sebastian. It goes far beyond the visions she has.”
Why would the moon goddess give Wrenley all that power? That wasn’t making any sense; but telling from Hannah’s face, she was more than serious.
“She also told me that my mother is the heart that Xander channeled his powers into,” she continued explaining. They already suspected that, but now it was confirmed.
Sebastian placed his hands on both sides of her shoulders, causing her to look up at him.
“We aren’t going to let him get away with this,” Sebastian assured her. “The good guys always win.”
She gave him a faint smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. He knew she was just worried about Wrenley.
“We need to help her with these powers,” Hannah said, lowering her tone. “She can’t go through this alone and she needs a little training.”
Sebastian nodded in agreement, but he wasn’t sure how to help her with something like that.
“Gemma told me there is a book in the palace on the bookshelf. It has everything we need to know about the moon goddess’s chosen daughter and how we can help her,” Hannah explained. “I was hoping I’d be able to get it once I was there, but Amy kicked me out before I had the chance.”
“Then we will figure out how to get it,” Sebastian assured her. “We were invited to the Bluemoon ball in a couple of days. Maybe we can go and find it once we are there.”
She nodded in agreement; neither of them wanted to attend, but now they were realizing this Bluemoon ball was probably something they couldn’t miss. Xander was planning on using that ball to take full control of his vessels; he needed to be stopped before he got the chance.
“Gemma said that she can’t tell us how to defeat him because she doesn’t know. She could only tell me what she sees in the here and now,” Hannah told him. “But she mentioned that the elders will be able to help us figure out how to defeat him.”
“The elders are prophets,” Sebastian agreed. “They knew I needed to be with you; they said you were the key to saving this kingdom and now I’m understanding what they meant. It was their prophet that made me want and need to marry you.”
“So, you think they can help?” Hannah asked.
“They can definitely help. We can go and see them later today. It’ll take a few hours to reach their town. It’s probably better if we went in a vehicle instead of shifting; we need to lay low for the time being. Play by the rules until we know how to defeat him.”
Hannah nodded in agreement. She took in a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She looked like she wanted to say more but screaming sounded in the living room. They both knew the screaming was coming from Wrenley.
They ran into the living room and saw that Wren was still curled up on the couch and her entire body was trembling. She had her face buried in her hands and she was screaming. Sebastian went to go to her and comfort her, but one look at Raya’s face and he remembered that he shouldn’t disturb her while she was having a vision.
Thankfully, this vision didn’t last long. Wren lifted her gaze from her hands and peered over at Sebastian and Hannah with tears clear in her eyes. Hannah was the first to go to her.
“What is it, sweetheart?” Hannah asked, sitting beside her and wrapping her arms around her.
“I saw that same lady that was stabbed in the heart,” Wren said softly, peering up at her. “She was turning into something else. Into someone else…”
“What?” Sebastian asked, stepping toward her.
Wren stayed quiet as Hannah glanced up at Sebastian, realization falling across her gaze.
“My mother was shifting,” Hannah breathed. “She’s a shifter.”
