Chapter 15
Naomi’s POV
Everything was going according to plan. From the sounds of it, Sebastian thought Hannah was only after him for money and jewels. Their bond was fading and growing hostile. It wouldn’t be long before he rejects her, banishing her from not only the palace, but from the kingdom as well.
Jack expressed to Steven that he was out to take the throne from Sebastian. It seemed they all had a common goal. Jack wanted to get everything Sebastian had, and Naomi wanted to make sure Amy had everything Hannah had.
“You could always try to get a hold of Emily,” Naomi’s mother said.
Naomi sat on the couch her mother’s house. She was close to her mother and enjoyed getting some insight and gaining wisdom. Years ago, she had worked in the palace as a servant to the first luna queen. Sebastian’s mother. Because of her time in the palace, Naomi’s mother knows things and has seen almost everything.
Including Sebastian’s first love.
Emily was a young girl that dated Alpha King Sebastian during their youth. Nobody knows what happened to her exactly; one minute she was around and the next minute she disappeared. All Naomi’s mother knew was how heartbroken the wolf king was once she left.
If it wasn’t for his temper, she’d probably still be around. The thought of her excited Naomi and her wolf. She had never met this woman before, and she had a feeling she was going to play an important part in the plan to get rid of Hannah and take over everything they have.
“I still have her number if you wish to contact her. She left him, but I always thought she still somehow loved him.,” Naomi’s mother said, flipping through her phonebook.
She handed the number to Naomi and sat beside her.
“Just be careful with whatever you are doing,” her mother warned. “It’s best to not anger the wolf king. He’s a murderous creature and I don’t want you to be on the bad end of his temper.”
“Don’t worry, mother,” Naomi said with a sly grin. “I’m not the one who’s going to be on the bad end of his temper.”
…
It took Naomi weeks to gain what she needed before paying a visit to the palace. The last time her husband was at the palace, the wolf king had brutally kicked him out. But she wasn’t planning on speaking with the wolf king, or Hannah. She knew in the afternoons that Hannah spent a lot of her time at the small gallery in town.
The butler allowed her entrance and told her she can wait for Hannah to return. She scanned the empty foyer of the palace and started walking through and toward a narrow hallway.
She held close to her a small bottle of medicine that she brought over specifically for the wolf king. She just needed to find somebody brave enough to spike the drink of the wolf king. Considering everybody feared him, it was going to be a difficult task.
She ran into a young man that was quickly passing through the hallway. He wore the uniform of a servant and quickly bowed to her as he passed.
“Excuse me, young man,” Naomi said, stopping him in his tracks. “You work for the palace?”
“Yes mam,” the boy said, bowing again.
“How closely do you work with the king?” She asked.
“Not that often,” he answered. “I just started here a few days ago.”
“I see,” Naomi said, eyeing him carefully. “Do you work in the kitchen when he eats?”
“No, mam,” he answered.
“Well, you do now,” Naomi said with a grin.
“I’m sorry?”
“What is your name?” She asked, keeping her tone even.
“Scottie…” he answered, uncertainty in his tone.
“Scottie, I need a favor from you. I need you to be in the kitchen where they prepare his food for the next 3 nights. Can you do that for me?”
“I don’t understand…” Scottie said with wide and nervous eyes. “Why?”
“I hear he goes crazy during the full moon,” Naomi said, dangling the medicine in the air. “I need someone I can trust to do a task for me. Can I trust you, Scottie?”
“What is it you need me to do?” He asked, worry in his tone.
“It’s simple really,” she began. “For 3 consecutive nights, up till the eve of the full moon, I need someone to put this medicine in the wolf king’s food.”
He gasped lightly and took an unsteady step backward.
“What is it?” He asked, his tone quivering slightly.
“It’ll help him,” Naomi lied. “It’ll help keep him calm during the full moon. But he won’t take it willingly. So, we need to sneak it into his food without anyone knowing about it. Especially not the wolf king.”
Scottie visibly trembled as he stared at the bottle of medicine Naomi was holding up for him.
“I’m sorry, mam,” Scottie said, his voice turning into a hushed whisper. “But if he catches me…”
“Then don’t get caught,” Naomi said, her tone hardening. “Look, if you don’t wish to help the wolf king, just say that,” she spat at him.
“It’s not that I don’t wish to help, it’s just that…”
“I won’t hear anymore excuses, Scottie,” Naomi said, turning away from him. “And to think I was willing to pay you…”
She took a step in the opposite direction, knowing he was going to stop her.
“Wait,” Scottie said quickly. “Pay me?”
The universal language everyone knew: money.
“A very healthy amount I might say,” she said, a grin forming on her lips as she kept her back turned to him.
“How much money?” Scottie asked; Naomi turned to face him.
She lowered herself to his ear and whispered a dollar amount; he stiffened, and he sucked in a sharp breath. She knew she had him exactly where she wanted him.
“My sister and I could use that money…” he whispered. “It would help us a lot.”
“All you must do, is leave a few droplets of this medicine in the wolf king’s food for the next 3 nights. It’s a win/win situation. You get to help him and yourself,” Naomi told him.
“All right,” he said, reluctantly as he grabbed the bottle from Naomi’s grasp and shoved it into his pocket.
“Good and remember that it needs to be put into his food for 3 consecutive nights, until the eve of the full moon,” Naomi reminded him.
He looked uneasy but he nodded.
“3 consecutive nights,” he said in a mere whisper. “Got it.”
