Chapter 126
Hannah
“If that’s what we need to do to save my brother and my husband’s wolf, then that’s what we will have to do,” I said, looking between the two of them.
Neither of them heard me lurking around the doorway, but I couldn’t just sit idly by and wait for Sebastian to return upstairs. I finished feeding Wrenley and she went right to sleep. Once I put her in her crib, I went downstairs. I wasn’t meaning to spy on them, but I heard Gemma explaining to Sebastian that his wolf has been trapped in the underworld. Well, at least a part of his wolf has been trapped.
That explained his madness and why we couldn’t find a cure for it. This went beyond modern medicine and potions.
“You don’t know what you are saying,” Gemma said, eyeing me as I entered through the doorway. Sebastian stood up and I saw the concern on his face, but he didn’t say anything in argument. “Opening the portal is nearly impossible without the guidance of the moon goddess. It’s also extremely dangerous. If the portal opens…”
“Then we risk the vampires being released,” I said, finishing her sentence for her. “But if we get the portal open, we have to trust that the moon goddess will be there to help us. Just like she helped you get out of the underworld the first time.”
Gemma stood to her feet and shook her head; I could see the dismay and discomfort roaming around her face.
“I won’t be a part of this,” she finally said after a pause. “I can’t risk being trapped there again. It was bad enough the first time. I refuse to go through that again.”
“So, you won’t help us?” I asked.
“I’m sorry, but no, I won’t help you,” she answered, shaking her head.
I said nothing more as I turned from the living room and walked into the foyer, slamming the door behind me. I felt rage going through my body; I couldn’t blame her for not wanting to help. But at the same time, I was infuriated. I needed to depart from the room before I said something regretful.
As I left, I felt a presence behind me, and I knew right away that it was Sebastian. He had followed me to calm me down, no doubt. I could feel myself growing temperamental and I needed to take in some deep breaths.
I turned to him, and I saw the concern lingering in his eyes. He gave me a fond smile and placed his hands on my shoulders.
“I love your passion,” he told me gently. “I love that you want to throw yourself in the middle of danger to protect those you love. But I need you to be smart about this…”
“I know,” I said to him in return, meeting his eyes. “I just want you to be okay; I want my brother to be okay too.”
“I know,” Sebastian said; he leaned down to kiss me gently on the lips. His kisses always calmed me, and I felt my body relax instantly. “And we will get the portal open with or without her help. But we need to be smart about it. We need to figure out how to get it open without releasing the vampires.”
I was surprised by his words; he actually agreed with me. He wanted to open the portal too.
“What?” I asked. “You’re serious?”
“Of course, I’m serious,” he said, raising his brows as he released my shoulders. “They have a part of my wolf. I want to get that back. It’s not just about Liam anymore. I know now that the vampires have partial control of me and that isn’t safe for anyone.”
“So, what’s the plan?” I asked, peering up at him.
“I’ll get back to you on that,” he said. “But for right now, we should get to the training grounds. Everyone is probably waiting.”
I groaned as I thought about Adira. She’s been nothing but awful to me since she showed up at the palace. Not that it should matter; I was the luna queen and she was a gamma in training. I outranked her.
As we got to the training grounds, most of the gammas and alphas were already in their wolf forms and they were fighting amongst each other; practicing the moves that Sebastian had shown them. Adira was in her human form and held the stick she nearly plunged into my chest the other day. She was eyeing me with an icy gaze that made me feel uncomfortable as I approached, but I didn’t let that be known to her.
I kept my eyes forward and waited for Sebastian’s instructions. I watched as my husband performed his best techniques before our eyes. He nearly took my breath away; I was always in awe of him, but when he was in fight mode, I found him breathtaking. Beta Arnold stood by his side this time and acted as his partner as they fought.
I didn’t get to choose my partner, Adira was at my side quickly and she swung the stick, knocking me to the ground. I felt a low growl in my throat emerging as she glared down at me with her smirk. She went to swing the stick again, but this time I was too quick for her. I grabbed the stick and pulled it from her grip, making her fall forward and toward the ground. She was startled as I maintained my stance and stood to my feet.
She growled with aggravation, trying to kick me but I spun away from her, making myself out of reach. Everybody seemed to be impressed with my quick motions, including Sebastian.
I went to swing my fist at her but missed by a hair. She was fast too and dodged my attack. She grabbed my arm and pulled me toward her, using her other arm to shove her fist into my stomach. I coughed as the wind was knocked from me.
“The Alpha King deserves better than a weak omega as his luna queen,” Adira muttered into my ear before releasing me.
She started to walk away toward her friends who were chuckling and cheering for her. But I felt rage going through my entire body at her words; she thought she was so great. But she wasn’t anything. I spun around to face her, watching her back as she gained distance. I ran toward her, growling loudly. I lunged, shifting into my wolf form and knocking her to the ground. My canine’s growing large and hissing in her face. I felt my claws expanding and digging into her flesh.
She was startled for a moment, but she soon recovered and then shifted into her own wolf. Her growls echoed mine and she swung her claws at me, cutting through my fur and scratching my face. Her weight was strong, and she was able to shove me off her, causing me to stumble backward. She snapped her teeth at me, only getting some of my furs, but not enough to cause me injury, however, I shifted back into my human form with little to no control.
The weight of her body pinned me to the ground. She shifted back into her human form and quickly spun around to grab the stick she had once carried; she pointed the sharpest end to my neck, keeping her foot on my body to keep me pinned.
“Enough,” Sebastian said calmly as he came toward us. “Know when to admit defeat,” he said to me. “And know when you have won,” he said to Adira.
She scoffed and stepped off me; the others cheered for her. I spit blood that pooled in my mouth to the ground as I sat up. Sebastian helped me to my feet.
“She’s a good fighter; one of the best gammas is her father so she had a lifetime of training. Don’t be discouraged…”
“I’m not,” I said to him, snapping him a look. “She just makes me so angry.”
“You’re too emotional when you fight. It’s good to be angry, it makes you stronger. But if you allow that anger to take over, you won’t fight with a clear head. You’ll make stupid mistakes. You need to learn to control your emotions, that way you can focus on what’s important and see her every move.”
I knew he was right, and it was something I needed to learn if we planned on opening the portal. I went to say something to him, but I saw the look of pain on his face. His entire face scrunched up and he doubled over.
