Chapter 106
Sebastian
When Arnold told Sebastian that Hannah was pregnant, he knew he had to rush to the hospital. He couldn’t believe that Hannah would keep something that important from him. It made him wonder whom she had told and why she would keep it from her husband. It always made him think maybe it was because the baby wasn’t his. It wasn’t something he enjoyed thinking about, but he couldn’t help it. The thought surfaced in his mind, and he couldn’t shake it.
He stared down at Hannah, who remained in the hospital bed. She was pale, and for someone pregnant, she seemed thin. She looked much sicker than he remembered from earlier. Her body was trembling, and tears were drowning her eyes.
“I wanted to tell you…” she whispered; tears escaped her eyes and washed over her features.
“When?” Sebastian couldn’t help but scold; he was being fueled by fury. The only thing keeping his wolf calm was Hannah’s scent. Even then, he still had to grip the bed handles to keep himself under control. “Were you going to tell me after you gave birth?”
“No…” she breathed. “I just couldn’t figure out the right time.”
“How about after you found out?!” Sebastian hissed; she flinched at his harsh tone and for a moment, he felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He didn’t like frightening her, especially now that he knew she was pregnant.
“I never meant to hurt you…” she said, sniffling away her tears. “I wanted to tell you so many times but…”
“But what?” Sebastian interrupted. “You feared what I might do if I found out about your love child with the gardener?!”
“What?” She gasped.
“That’s the reason you didn’t tell me, right? Because the baby isn’t mine. It’s his. Just tell me the truth for once. You’ve been lying to me since the day we married.”
“That’s not true,” she said hoarsely. She was attempting to sit up in bed, wanting to defend herself but she was too weak to do so.
“By marrying me, you found benefit in it. You wanted the money, and you wanted the title,” Sebastian hissed.
“What about you?!” Hannah growled, finding an ounce of her strength back. “You forced me to marry you. I never wanted this. I never had the choice. You approached my father and made the order. And for what? Because of my scent?”
“Because it was a prophecy,” Sebastian hissed. “An Elder told me that I had to marry the daughter of Alpha Steven because she’s key to saving this kingdom and saving me.”
“Saving the kingdom from what?” She asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
“I don’t know. They can’t say. But they know something is coming and it’s big. You are the key to saving us, Hannah…”
“I got news for you, Sebastian,” she said, lying her head back down and staring up at the ceiling. “I’m not the one you were supposed to marry. I might be the daughter of Alpha Steven, but he has another daughter they were going to marry you too. She refused and stuck me in this marriage. There’s some truth for you…”
He felt his heart weighing heavily in his chest. That couldn’t be true; the elders don’t make mistakes like that. Even if he didn’t dictate the marriage, it still would have happened because it was already destined. He just wanted to make things happen a little quicker by approaching Alpha Steven. But it wasn’t Amy he was meant to marry, it was Hannah. The fact that she can calm his madness with just her scent is proof of that. The elders would have told him by now if he made a mistake, but they insisted he stayed in this marriage.
Just as he was about to protest and explain that to her, a shot of pain went through his body. The scars within his mask burned him like he was being consumed by the sun. He screamed as he tumbled to the ground; he clenched his jaw, trying not to sound too loud. He could see the immediate fear in Hannah’s eyes. He was sure she thought he was fighting off his wolf to stay in control; she thought she had pushed him over the edge. Her body trembled slightly, and she couldn’t look away from him.
Sweat began pouring from his forehead but was pooling inside his mask. He needed to get it off. He grabbed his mask and ripped it off his face, throwing it to the ground. He felt around his disfigured face, trying to figure out where it was hurting. He was trying to soothe the pain.
It sounded like Hannah’s breathing was caught in her throat; she sucked in a sharp breath but never released it. His body shook violently as he stared up at his luna. She was staring back with wide and curious eyes, but she no longer looked frightened. Not she did moments ago.
“You’re incredible…” she breathed; she was in awe of him. No. She was making fun of him. He grabbed his mask to place it back on his face; the pain started to ease some, and he was able to stand back to his feet. She grabbed his arm before he had the chance to put the mask back on; he felt incredibly exposed.
He’s never allowed anyone to see his disgustingly disfigured face; he kept that mask on for as long as he could remember. He had to admit that it felt nice taking it off, but he didn’t like the way she was staring at him. He felt ashamed. What kind of Wolf King looks the way he does? Nobody would respect him if they knew of the gross man that lay under the mask.
“Please don’t put that mask back on…” she whispered to him. There was something in her eyes that he wasn’t expecting. Sincerity. Did she actually like his gross face? The last time she saw it was around the time she went into heat. It wasn’t making any sense.
He heard the voice of Dr. Davis from outside the door; he was talking to one of the nurses before entering Hannah’s room. Sebastian stilled and with one look into Hannah’s eyes, she released his arm, allowing him to put the mask back on. He placed it back onto his face before Dr. Davis entered the room.
Dr. Davis stilled at the door as he saw Sebastian standing there.
“Oh, hey there,” Dr. Davis said with a nervous chuckle; Sebastian intimidated him, and he liked that. Dr. Davis cleared his throat before looking over at Hannah. “The OR is ready for you. I’m going to take you down now.”
She nodded and gave him a faint and weak smile. She laid her head down again and glanced over at Sebastian.
“The baby is yours…” she whispered. “Not Henry’s. Yours.”
He felt a sudden warmth in his chest; there were a million things he wanted to say to her and ask at that moment, but he didn’t have the time. She had to go and save their child. He leaned down and pressed his lips against her damp forehead, breathing in her scent for the last time before they took her away.
…
Hannah
I woke up with everything hurting. The last thing I remembered was them putting a breathing mask on my face before I fell asleep. I was waking up in my hospital room and my entire stomach felt like it was on fire. I reached to my stomach and touched the bandage that was placed on me. I groaned as pain shot through my body.
“Hey, don’t move too much,” Sebastian’s voice came from beside me. I breathed out, relieved that he was there. Our conversation from before the surgery was a bit foggy, but I remembered that he took off his mask. His face was the most handsome I had ever seen. My wolf could hardly contain herself; I was glad when they took me away because I might have jumped his bones right then and there.
He was looking at me with such worry in his eyes as he kissed my forehead; his scent brought me so much comfort and for a moment, I forgot about how much pain I was in.
“They are going to give you more pain medicine. The surgery went well. The baby is alive and growing inside of you,” Sebastian said with a fond smile.
I was relieved to hear that.
I remembered he was upset with me for lying to him about being pregnant. I didn’t want to lie to him about anything else; he was my husband and I wanted him to trust me.
“Sebastian…” I croaked; my voice sounded raspy and unfamiliar. It also pained me to speak so I visibly winced.
“Sssh,” he said softly “Just get some rest.”
No. He needed to know the truth.
“Henry is my fated mate…”
