Chapter 106

Sabrina POV

The cabin at the back of my mother’s estate lay a few miles from the house. It was small compared to her house, and had been used as a hunting retreat by the former owner.

No I was going to use it as a different kind of retreat.

I arrived breathless and sweaty from carrying the stupid kid. He seemed to weigh more with every step, and had continued to fight me the entire time, kicking and hitting me with his fists.

The fear I felt, wondering if Nathan was somehow right behind me, was still nothing compared to the rage building up inside of me.

I couldn’t believe that my plans had once again been ruined.

How had he known I had something to do with Andy’s disappearance?

And how had he known to come looking for us at my mother’s house??

Questions I could and would find the answers too, later.

First I had to make sure I survived the night.

Racing up the old cabin’s steps, I found the key where Mom told me it was hidden. The door stuck at first, and it was clear that I was the first person to visit here in quite some time. Shoving it with my foot, I finally got it to open, and then hurried inside.

I threw Andy down onto the floor with a very satisfying thud. He cried out with pain, and I realized the gag I’d tied over his mouth earlier had come off sometime during our run through the woods.

“Be quiet,” I demanded as I stood with my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. “Or I swear, I’ll give you more pain than you’ve ever dreamed possible.”

After I caught my breath, I walked through the few small rooms of the cabin, locking the doors and covering all of the windows, checking that they were also locked.

I wouldn’t put it past Nathan or his stupid enforcers to try to sneak in through a window.

Feeling paranoid, I stood peering through the curtains, to make sure we hadn’t been followed, for twenty minutes.

It was also time I desperately needed to try to calm myself down.

I needed to be able to think.

What were my next steps going to be from here?

How was I going to survive this night?

And how was I going to make them pay??

Unable to calm down, my hands shook with the anger building up inside of me. I couldn’t believe that my plans had once again been disrupted, and that I was hiding in the woods like some worthless rogue.

I’d spent hours thinking about all the ways I was going to torture Nathan, and how I was going to cut Claire from head to toe and lick the blood off my knife.

My wolf was howling for blood inside of me.

Kill! Kill! Kill!

But that opportunity was disappearing.

All of my careful planning, all of my effort, just crumbling to dust.

Someone was going to pay for this.

I let the curtain drop, feeling confident I hadn’t been followed, and let my rage bubble freely inside of me.

Oh yes, someone was going to pay.

I turned around and my gaze fell on the stupid sniveling child where he lay curled up and trembling, crying softly, on the floor.

Watching him, I pulled out the knife I had hastily tucked into my belt before running from the house, testing its sharp edge with the pad of my thumb.

So maybe I couldn’t get my hands on Nathan and Claire themselves.

But…

That didn’t mean I still couldn’t hurt them.

Badly.

And it didn’t mean I wouldn’t get to have at least a little fun before I finally escaped the Royal territory and headed for Bloodclaw…

Hearing my footsteps, Andy rolled over onto his back.

His eyes widened even further in fear when they saw the knife.

Whimpering, he began inching backwards along the floor. For the first time I noticed that the rope tied around his hands had started to come loose during our mad dash through the woods.

His hands were still tied, but he had much more room to move than he did before.

But it didn’t matter. He had nowhere to go.

I laughed as he tried to put as much distance between us as he could in the little room.

“It’s no use, Andy! You’ve got nowhere to go.

And your life ends here, little pup.”

I fell to my knees with the knife raised high, wanting to extend his terror, and enjoy the tension of the moment.

And then I stabbed down. Hard.

Only to hit the floor, jarring my wrist and elbow.

I cried out with pain and confusion. It took me a moment to realize that Andy had rolled to the side at the last second, dodging the blow.

Growling, I grabbed at him as he tried to get away, snagging his pant leg and dragging him backwards.

He struggled against the pull, flailing his arms and legs blindly.

A lucky kick landed on my chest, knocking the air out of me and stunning me for a moment.

Giving him just enough time to scramble to his feet and run out of the room.

Laughing breathlessly, I stumbled to my own feet.

“Nice try, kid! But you’ve got nowhere to go!”

I ran through the small cabin, checking the bedrooms to either side of the short hall.

Standing in the first bedroom, I evened out my breathing as much as I could, then crept about silently. I kept my ears tuned for the sounds of his ragged little breaths, checking under the bed and inside the tiny closet.

Nothing.

So I slid out of that room and back into the hall, tiptoeing into the next bedroom.

The little idiot was somewhere, and probably hiding in the dumbest spot imaginable.

But this bedroom was also empty.

Back in the hallway, I stopped outside of the closed door I knew opened onto the bathroom, chuckling as I put my hand on the handle.

“I’ve got you now, you little brat. You’ve got nowhere else to - ”

I flung open the door, rushing inside.

But it was empty.

I ripped back the shower curtain, pulling it loose from its rings, expecting to see him curled up in the tub.

Nothing.

And then I heard it.

Breathing.

And something else.

What was it?

My eyes widened.

It was the sound of someone in the kitchen.

Fumbling at the back door.

It was Andy, clearly struggling with the door handle while his hands were tied.

“No. There’s no way you’re getting away from me!” I cried, turning around and running toward the kitchen.

He was just a child. It was impossible for him to get away from me for very long.

I ran into the kitchen, hand gripping the knife tightly, ready to swing and slash and let the blood pour.

And I was just in time to see him finally get a good grip on the handle with his tied-together hands, flinging the door open.

Just in time to see him rush out into the night.

No! Kill!!

With a scream of frustration and a rising lust for blood, I followed.
