Chapter 3

After I entered the Johnson Mansion, I saw Mr. Johnson looking at Miss Mina with deep concern.

There were tears in his eyes. You could tell he really cared about Mina.

I had never seen that kind of expression on my parents' faces.

Mr. Johnson glanced at me coldly, and the bodyguards behind him pushed me to the ground.

I was forced to kneel on the cold floor, not daring to say a word.

A bone-chilling cold came from beneath me, but right now, nobody cared about me at all.

After a long while, Mina got impatient.

She wanted to go back inside and sleep.

As she walked past me, she smiled with contempt.

Like she was mocking me, like I was trash.

I showed no emotion, just knelt there obediently.

Soon, Mr. Johnson came over to me. He had someone tie me up and hang me from a tree in the yard.

"Since you dared to push my daughter, I'll show you what I'm capable of!"

"I'll make your parents feel what I'm feeling, too!"

I swayed back and forth on the rope, a bitter smile on my lips.

Even if Mr. Johnson killed me today, my parents wouldn't shed a single tear.

Because I'm not the one they treasure most.

I hung alone from the tree, all the blood rushing to my head.

I felt my consciousness getting fuzzy, my vision starting to blur.

I don't know how long it had been before someone let me down.

I lay in the snow like a corpse, only my chest rising and falling slightly.

Mr. Johnson looked at me with a frown and said, "You had plenty of strength when you pushed my daughter! How come you're so weak now!"

"My daughter has wounds all over her face and arms. In that case, I'll cripple one of your legs!"

Then he had a bodyguard bring a big hammer and strike it hard on my knee.

My body trembled as I let out a horrible scream.

A sharp pain shot through my knee, almost making me pass out.

Blood seeped from my knee, spreading across the snow.

While I was suffering like this, my parents and husband were coaxing Susan to eat more.

I crawled out of the Johnson Mansion by myself.

On the road, I called a taxi and had the driver take me home.

By the time I got home, it was already dark.

The family had just come back from dinner. When James passed by me, he even kicked me. "What beggar is this? Get lost!"

Suddenly, he saw my face and froze for a moment.

The next second, his eyes turned red as he helped me up. "Jane, you've suffered so much. I'll treat you well from now on!"

Then he looked at my knee, a hint of disgust in his eyes.

When he was pursuing me, he used to be obsessed with my legs, saying I was like an elegant swan. He even bought me lots of short skirts and stockings.

Later, when we got married, he saw Susan's even more slender legs and immediately became obsessed with them.

We looked exactly the same, but James fell for Susan.

He took me to the hospital for simple bandaging, then called Susan, "Her leg is injured, but everything else is fine. It won't affect your treatment! Just wrap it up casually later."

Hearing his words, my heart ached like it was being cut with a knife.

I lay on the cold hospital bed, feeling death calling to me.

Maybe that would be better - I wouldn't have to endure this pain anymore.

I sat up, still a bit dazed, looking at the wound on my knee.

Not long after, Susan wheeled herself in.

As soon as she entered and saw the bandage on my leg, she started laughing uncontrollably.

She laughed so hard that tears came out.

Her legs even supported her weight on the ground because she wasn't sitting steady.

She didn't look at all like someone with injured legs.

Actually, I had known for a long time that there was nothing wrong with her legs. She just sat in the wheelchair on purpose to get more sympathy.

I had told my parents about this, but not only did they not believe me, but they also beat me up.

"From now on, I'm going to recover my legs, and this wheelchair will be yours!"

"Then, only I will deserve to stand beside James! And you should just die!"

I looked at her with a frown and said, "Fine, you can have James."

At this moment, Susan had decided to start my treatment.

She gave me a shot, telling me to enjoy my final celebration.

When she successfully stood up, she would personally treat me.

Then she would just say she accidentally let my wound get infected.

I would get a fever, my wound would fester, and eventually I would die.

After I died, I figured my parents and James probably wouldn't even look at me.

They never thought much of me anyway, let alone after I died.

They'd probably just feel relieved to be rid of some trash!

Soon, Susan told my parents that her legs had regained feeling and she could stand up successfully.

My parents hugged her excitedly, celebrating nonstop.

Then they couldn't wait to push me into the operating room.

"Susan, I knew you would succeed! You're amazing!"

"After your surgery, let's go to the Christmas ball together!"

James looked at her lovingly and said, "I have a surprise for you. I'll wait for you here!"

The four of them chatted and laughed together. Nobody paid attention to me lying on the hospital bed.

Even though I was the one having surgery, their eyes were only on Susan.

I looked at them, tears gradually blurring my vision.

As I was being pushed in, I looked up at them and asked, "If I die on the operating table, will you cry for me?"
