Camille, Ria's stepmother had always felt threatened by the affection that Ria's father always showed towards Ria, she worried that her unborn child might have to compete with Ria for her father's love so she concocted a plan to have Ria sold to traveling werewolf.

After selling Ria to the werewolves, Camille made up a convincing lie that Ria had run away to be with her boyfriend that her father did not agree with.

As her father grieved her absence, Ria was being auctioned and after a long brutal bargain between the Greyson Brothers, she was bought by Kael Greyson, the Alpha of the pack. This did not deter Darius (Kael's brother) from wanting Ria for himself. He only saw her as a object that his brother owned, an object that I would enjoy stealing from his brother. Darius had the bad habit of wanting everything that Kael has, like wanting Ria for himself, he also wanted the throne. 

Seeing how much softer Ria had made Kael, seeing just how much Kael had fallen in love with Ria gave Darius the confidence he needed to go ahead with his plan of overthrowing kael and taking the pack's leadership all for himself.
